Just landed on Eos, so still pretty much in the beggining of the game, and I'm loving every second of it. Funny thing is, I confirmed my suspicions that most "haters" of this game havent played it for more than 2 hours. They are just jumping on the bandwagon that some critics started when they nitpicked a few of the worst parts of the game. Animations aint great on humans (they are amazing on aliens tho). And all those memes and gifs everybody was ranting about, I saw them all in my first hour of playthrough. After that, NOTHING. Game is super smooth, and not a single bug in 10h of playthrough. Cant atest for the rest of the game, but so far it seems clear there is a hate agenda towards this game and its totally off and fake. There are some little details I've encountered so far(considering player choices), that are amazing and hats off to Bioware for those, which are to me much more important as an rpg gamer, than top notch animation/lip sync.
The game is not perfect, i dont think (still have a lot to see in it), but from what I played so far, anything under 8 seems like fishing for stuff to hate.
Now, im playing PC version with specs above the recommended, so I can't say other players are feeling the same smooth experience I'm enjoying. I've seen some vids from xbox version which pale in comparison, as far as actually looking like a different game, to the experience I'm having. So some actually real and relevant criticism can come from the optimization for the various systems/consoles. But PC version so far, playing ultra on 4k, the game looks absolutely fantastic.
But that's just my 2 cents on it. And as worried as I was for this game because of the early reviews, I'm happy to say I'm enjoying it greatly. Not only I'm getting ME1 vibes from it, I'm actually getting KOTOR1 vibes as crazy as that may sound...
I wouldnt say everybody is going to love the game, its all a matter of opinion, but I would totally recommend it to everybody.
After the reviews of Mass Effect this week, and Ironfist last week, and considering I'm enjoying both quite a lot, I'm jumping on a new bandwagon, the Ignore the Critics and Try It for Yourself one.

I had high hopes but very low expectations, and so far I don't regret buying the game in any way, shape or form. I bought the Deluxe version on Xbox, and would expect to pick it up on PS4 whenever it drops to around half price so that I can keep in touch with some of my MP friends there. It's way too early for me to rate the game overall, but of the two options between loving and hating I'm absolutely in the former camp. I played ME3 on day-of-release and remember it being a little glitchy. This is similar, but still a picnic compared to FO4, for example. I try to react to glitches with amusement, not hate, otherwise I'll just end up hating myself most of all, recognising that I pay good money to be a game-tester for AAA Studios. It's ultimately my choice whether I go along with it. I'm about to go back to Eos to carry on some side-quests, and so far everything has been pretty enjoyable. I agree with those who say it feels very like the original game, but with improved gameplay mechanics. Sadly the animations seem more like a backward step, but I imagine they will be patched. I haven't got a clue what I'm doing yet in terms of resource management, profiles, Apex stuff or R&D, but I can already see how much fun I'm likely to have getting the hang of it all. It might help a little if some of the tinier fonts were enlarged for us old guys though! I haven't had any major issues with the dialogue itself, despite fearing the worst, and the voice acting has been pretty good too (Tann the Salarian aside - he makes me feel slightly nauseous.) Not gonna lie though, the CC was almost a game-breaker for me as I recoiled in horror at every one of the female templates, and most of the males too. I don't want to join the ranks of the conspiracy theorists, but I find the 'it's just incompetence' explanation hard to believe. I saw the model for the default Sara for the first time yesterday, and I've gotta say that's incompetence on an intergalactic scale! The fact that Cora has a great body but a man's face is also slightly distracting. Two men actually - James Hunt, the F1 racer and Martin Fry, the singer of ABC. Default Alec Ryder looks like Kevin Godley of 10cc too, which is making me wonder if there's a middle-aged Anglophile somewhere in Bioware's animator ranks who wasn't quite brave enough to go full-on 'Flock of Seagulls' with Cora's haircut. I'll finish my non-review by acknowledging that I watched a little of DragonRacer streaming some multiplayer, and saw enough to know that I'm going to have a lot of fun there too. At one point her Krogan was dead along with two others, dependent on an Asari clutching a wave, which (s)he did with some style. I realised that if I went straight in I might never start the SP campaign! I can't comment any further than that on MP though. I saw a post requesting more gore, and would be disappointed to discover that headshots on Kett in MP don't result in the same melon-pop as SP, which I like very much. TL/DR: Probably gonna end up a solid 8/10. Probably.

I liked it at first, but now that I'm 40+ hours into it I love it. It has a slow start but gets better with time.

How about immersion? How would you rate this compared to the trilogy games when it comes to immersion, anyone? I find it better imo, but I always struggle to get into the "ultra elite special forces, best of the best Snake eater" roles anyways, since I've been in the military and know guys in Army SF. To me it's far easier to immerse myself in this games story and how you become the Pathfinder.

The forum is struggling a little with multiple, 'I hate this game' / 'I love this game' threads. Expressing those views is, of course, fine, but multiple threads covering the same ground is obscuring other threads addressing specific aspects of the game. So this thread is for general feedback along the lines of 'liking or loving' the game. That doesn't prevent, civil comment from those who disagree, but it sets the tone for the conversation. Duplicate threads may be moved in here. I've got about 8 hours in and loving the game so far. There's a lot I have to learn. I just found out last night how to outfit my weapon mods!!! I love the open world aspect, especially the space exploration. I just need to figure out how to mine planets from the planetary view, if that's even possible. The only part I'm loving a bit less is the cover system. Can't tell you how many times I've been killed because I can't crouch, or when I attempt to move close to an object I'm still standing up, or when I hit the "B" button to warp to cover I over-shoot it. I can't remember how cover worked in ME3, but it had to be better than this. I mean, was the game even tested in-house? I didn't participate in the beta so couldn't have known about this until I played it. I've seen a lot of negativity about it on various forums, so I know it isn't just me. Oh, and one other thing. I was talking to all the crew mates and didn't realize until after I had finished that there's a symbol inside the conversation wheel. I accidentally romanced it up with Liam, thinking we were simply having a "bro" moment, hahahaha. Boy, was I wrong...bad move on my part!!!!

Poor game play? The combat is the best it has ever been. I like combat in ME as much as the next guy, but how is it better in Andromeda? Seems about the same. The hit markers are nice but not mandatory. Neither are jumpjets. What new feature(s) did you like so much? Not sure how anybody can say the gameplay is not good. I think it's on par with the other ME games, maybe a bit better with this one. The only part I don't care for, and I mentioned it below, is the cover system. That's gunna take me awhile to get used to, and I'll be dying a lot in the process if the past 6-8 hours are any indication. Why I can't crouch is beyond me, and maybe we couldn't crouch in ME3 either, I don't remember. But good grief, its 2017 now and you should be able to perform simple functions like crouch, go prone, etc. in games like this.

Alright, after 60h I finally finished the game (left alot of side quests for future playthru) and for me its the best ME game. It dont beat the trilogy but compared to each of the other games its the best. A great foundation to build from. Lets start with the good: + It runs great on PC with a few minor bugs and glitches. + It looks gorgeous. + Combat is the best in the series. + Interesting characters that are for the most part very well voice acted. I like the crew on the Tempest at least as much as the Normandy one. Also, that Cora romance + The quests are mostly well done. The main was interesting enough to keep me coming back for more, and the side quests feel much less "MMO style" then DA:I for example. So much to do that many can be skipped for another run. + The sound in combat and just walking around in the world is great. + The Nomad is fun driving around and over enemies. + The ability to choose wich skills to use. The bad: - Animation, both facial and walking, are not very good. It didnt bother me too much though, and I feel the outrage over it is quite abit overreacting. - The menus are not good and feels clunky. The map can be confusing at times. - The "puzzles" gets old fast. So does the zooming in while traveling between planets. - The soundtrack, while not really bad, is not up on par with the other games. Besides the main menu music, nothing really sticks. - At times the casual auto conversations, especially from Scott Ryder, are abit too much for my taste. To sum it up, its a really good game that gets a solid 8/10 from me. Hopefully, this is only the first ME in the Andromeda galaxy.

They removed the slow tacticalness of MET by not having you stay in one place.

You hear them say things, and that's not quite how it's spoken in the real military.

I have to wonder what perfect game people are comparing MEA to - in terms of animation, story, etc. The first Mass Effect trilogy had some wooden faces and bugs, (believe me) having just finished it. My poor Shepard's face had like two emotions, period, but it didn't impact the overall fantastic level of those games. Plus the getting stuck in wall glitch in ME2 causing reloads of saves. Still loved that game anyway.
Yes, I get it - it's 2017 and we're halfway to VR tanks and living in the games for real and MEA is sooooo bad looking and EAware this and that -
Having just finished Horizon Dawn, I don't see that this game is a come down from that one at all. I'm just into the first mission and loving this game. My brother is further in and it just gets even better.
I guess the entitlement attitude is what it boils down to. Ultimately (for me) I feel a game is generally a good buy if: 1. It's fun to play (check) 2. It's worth the money, as in roughly a dollar an hour of game play value. This game is way more than 70 hours long, so (check)! 3. It works. For my 10 hours, it works. Some wonky little things here and there, nothing broken, though. (check)
So the real question, is what do people want if this is coming so far short?

Everything is an improvement. It is more action packed, and you can't rely on cover as much because enemies force you out of it. Phantoms and Banshees and Brutes and Praetoreans were quite efficient at driving you out of cover in ME3 MP.

It's "okay" so far for me. I only just got to the nexus. I like Cora and Liam more than I thought I would as of right now.
The controls on a keyboard are hard for me to get used to - I don't like platforming and having to use sprint/climb/jump along with a movement key, and a mouse click for hovering. I don't have 3 hands. -.- I see myself falling off cliffs a lot in this game. It seems meant for a control pad.

i love ME trilogy, played ME1 as soon as it came out, played all 3 games multiple times im only 20+- hours in MEA, lots of MP, which i love it, fun, addictive, lots of new feautres, cahractes, etc, progression is slower, but it's ok. in the SP i'm in the part after i activated the underground vault , met Drack, PB, i'm exploring Eos
the more i play, the more i like it, the bad: facial animations in human and asari, asari have same faces, walking animations of human and turian, besides they do a very strange and ridiculous hand movement, quests to collect memories, shards, logs, materials are borning, same as DA:I, but this is ME, so, some of then are ok, i like the way they are presented, a bit better than in DA:I, some bugs, lik PB's pistol backwards, or voice and mouth animation not syncronized the good excelent ambiences, environment, graphics, particle effects, love the kett designs, ships, architecture, outposts, etc, reminds me of the art of H. R. Giger i find the story intersting and compelling, involving, not asmuch as ME, i thnk our standards and expectations are a bit too high, maybe that's because of the MET quality, but this is new begin, keep that in mind i love the main menu! reminds me of ME1, it's simple, yet represents the deep, dark, unknown space or galaxy, new planets, unlimited possibilities, graceful, silent, misteries to discover, the soundtrack is ok, it could a lot better, but i like it, it's futuritic, it's ok for ME the game is newcomers friendly, keep that in mind too i like all characters but Liam, his personality does not fit his abilities and preparation, he is like a super soldier, but behaves like a kid, wtf i like all other characters a lot i like the nomad, the tempest, landscapes are beautiful, Eos desert is a bit boring, but i respect the artists' vision combat is the best in the series, it wuld be even better if we have the pause i was disappointed that the turain and asari and salarian and krogan arks are not in the nexus, i feel alone and lonely ther are lots of things that made me smile, so many nods, winks to the trilogy, it's like they are introducng ME to newcmers and at th same time trying to give veterans something they like and know that's all for now, i'll update later on, i have a cluster to explore

i dn't like that "resource management" thing, the more materials, life support, the more peple we can wake up, wtf!? this does not belong to mass effect!
i like having "normal" enemies again, like salarians, humans, asari, krogans, turians, etc, and of course the new ones
only 3 factions in me3 was a bit boring

What about convos with NPC's and the VA? I assume the animations disrupt it at times?

I'm a little over 30 hours in and still trying to 100% Voeld. I've made allies with the Angara (Love these people, the more I meet the more their stories matter) I'm only 30% complete of the game so far, which is what I was wanting! This will take me at least 100 hours. I love the combat/crafting, the squad is fun..I don't get criticisms on voice acting or writing.. I think they're very good. This moment on Voeld kind of hit me just yesterday..I was driving the Nomad through..searching for something I'll not say for spoilers..I came kind of close to this huge Kett base that was over the mountain..and there was a beam of light that was projecting off something that crashed..the way the light looked against the snow, the sky..the moment..I was back in the original Mass Effect, in the Mako on an alien world exploring..the subtle music that was playing in the backdrop was perfect. In that moment I got super nostalgic...and realized this game is exactly what the original Mass Effect should have/wanted to be (but obv technological barriers back then) People complaining about animations though honestly are making a bigger deal out of it then it is..there are so many games that aren't as good as this one is from animation stand points. And don't have near the quality. That's my 2 cents..I know that like 70% of this board is full of smudboy followers/haters..but it hasn't and won't detract me.

It basically gives you lots of options on approaching enemies on the battlefield. I'll never get enough of being biotic death from above.

yeah the bugs , but the game is huge,so many details, so many good side questes , looks gorgeous, combat is great, most of all the story really let you go,not like ME , Ryder are more sentimental(google translation,i mean young,Naive, idealism, etc) so SAM and him growing together,as the N7s children, and SAM draw a picture in the early day , that picture i just found out is really nothing ,but ... Given how buggy your post is you're probably used to life itself being buggy. For regular folk the bugs may be more glaring.

I'm having a lot of fun with this game, but there's one thingie: is there any way to make the text on screen bigger? As in, larger letters for my poor blind eyes. I may need a bigger TV screen (playing on Xbox) but even with my glasses on I have trouble reading texts.

Man I played this last night and I'm having blast! It feels like a Mass Effect game! I can't wait to play more!

immersion is great, lot of "space-realistic" environments and landscape to behold and hazards to take into account, you loose yourself in this new galaxy cluster That sounds good. What about convos with NPC's and the VA? I assume the animations disrupt it at times? you can combine biotic, and tech no problem, but think fast by VA you meain voice acting? it's great, only thing is some words not syncronized to mouth animations
