I think the failures here have slayed the franchise.
Its fun and mass effect-y but hard to see it clawing back its image now that its a meme.
Gaming has changed and we might have just been holding on to something past its used by date. We might be too old now as a fanbase ourselves, the BioWare way of doing things is dead, I can see that. Theres no future in todays market for DA:I/ME:A style mechanics.
Its looking like a franchise that spent four installments making prototypes for what they really want to do later.
And never got there.
The competition is going to slaughter them if they can't make serious changes to the way they do things.
ME has been a mess since Thessia. Whatever needed to change, hasn't.

I honestly think they should let Bioware Montreal make the next game. They have the experience with the Frostbite Engine in regards to Mass Effect now, so the next development cycle should be shorter. I think they can obviously see the things they need to work on for the next game that people are upset about (facial animations, CC, glitches, sidequest content and quality, etc) and you can be darn sure EA and the high-ups at Bioware will be on them about fixing these things earlier and doing a better marketing campaign next time. It's better to have people who have learned from mistakes than to say "well, you messed up. We'll let this other group do it," and then watch them "fail" again because they don't have the experience. Bioware Montreal now has something to prove for the next game, and should know intimately what to do to give the fans what they want for MEA:2. I'm not done with Andromeda yet, but I think there is so much potential for great stories and new alien races. I have no problem giving them another shot, and I think it logically makes the most sense. You said it.

I disagree. I guess the sale numbers will determine what happens next the most. I think they will be strong, but maybe not nearly as strong as they hoped. I do think that, given a good story DLC along the way (something like Blood and Wine or Trespasser), and making a huge effort to fix the animations and bug ASAFP, the game can have more people buying it longer after launch than what would be normal for a game where most of the sales happen at the very beginning. I think they may have picked up enough new people and pleased plenty of die-hard Mass Effect fans that there will be new installments. AssassinsCreed survived Unity, Battlefield 1 survived Battlefield 4, Watchdogs 2 came out after Watchdogs, etc. I think they might only have one more shot at it, true. But I think that, having the building tools already in the Frostbite engine, gearing up for more 4K stuff, etc, the investment for a new Mass Effect game will (probably) be worth it for EA. We'll know more if we ever see sales numbers, but I'm guessing in 3 years we see another Mass Effect Andromeda game. But who knows, I've been wrong before. Often.

But look at it this way. A vanguard can't just charge into every situation and expect to survive. Its risk vs reward. You need to size up the risk and then decide if the potential reward is worth it. If EA decide the brand is trashed and future sales won't justify an investment, it gets the chop without hesitation for them thats the stroke of pen and it actually frees up money to do other things. One less potentially expensive problem isn't a tough decision of your goal is to make money.

I voted to give Mass Effect to another studio, because its obvious that EA & new-Bioware/Bioware Montreal are not interested in making a proper Mass Effect game, they will never do Mass Effect justice as things stand currently. So for the benefit everybody i think it would be for the best to give it over to a developer who actually cares about making great games and cares about quality writing/world building/side quests & main quests/characters etc and cares about quality science fiction. My choice of studio would either be CDPR or Obsidian... as those are the only two RPG developers who i feel can deliver on all of the above.
At first i was gonna vote to have Bioware Edmonton make it, but then i realised that all the people, all the talent that made ME1-ME2 and KOTOR and the like no longer work there, and infact left Bioware ages ago. Plus being under the EA umbrella means only more of their version of MMO, fetch quest infested open world nonsense. So a Mass Effect game, set in the Milky Way(just have a different timeline like in Star Trek, honestly i wouldnt care if they retconned ME3's ending or made say destroy cannon. I dont care at this point. Mass Effect is bigger than an ending. The universe is just too good to ditch and leave behind either way) developed by CDPR or Obsidian... one can dream. That would be orgasmic.
But alas it would never happen. At the very least for the next Mass Effect game i hope Bioware Montreal hire some actual science fiction and character writers, hire people who know how to build great worlds dripping in atmosphere etc. Get people in who know what the hell theyre doing.

Only one thing is required for me: Ryder as protagonist again. I am a bit worried they will go the Dragon Age route, let the galaxy be the protagonist, like Thedas is for DA. Well i want Ryder aswell, just keep the squad and add a new member or two.

Despite a million posts of hate from a few haters, sales will show whether the general public accepted the game. Have you noticed how polls have been 10 times more positive than the negatives but you see post after post in a thread complaining. It seems the unhappy are 10 times more vocal and continually complain whereas there are fewer satisfied customers that post a lot. I have always heard it called the "vocal minority". Saw it all the time on Blizzard forums. So-n-so posts a million hateful times about how he hates a game, all the while logging a thousand hours of gameplay and screaming they want a refund. Lol First week sales will probably be okayish, but I'm expecting a sharp decline afterward. The salt from ME3's ending, bad word of mouth and reviews for ME:A, and all the hilarious memes go around, will probably have a negative affect on sales. There are those near the top of the corporate food chain, who use Metacritic as a metric for a game's success. It's a very flawed business tactics, but a lot of companies use it, and that's just the way it is. So rest assured, there are people at EA right now, who are keeping a close eye on this game's commercial success at this point, because of that 74 score. That said, please don't start the "vocal minority" crap. vocal minority crap? then YOU look at the number of hate posts by certain haters, and do a count. its simple math and its right in front of you. When I see a hater with 15,000 posts, I dont think hes a fanboi every other post BESIDES the one that I found where he trashed the game? I have seen the same people chime in over and over about how terrible the game is and then it turns in to the same person arguing with 10 different people, where they post once and he posts 5 replies to each of them. its right there in the forum. look. if everyone on this site hated this game YOU BETTER BELIEVE the polls would be 155 hated it and 10 loved it. Its not turning out that way. if sales support a sequel and you can always find a PUG in MP and the hate posts still VASTLY outnumber the like posts, then that pretty much makes the phrase "vocal minority" a true statement. lol .

Depends on the sales, if the sales are good we're definitely getting a sequel that is also open world, if sales are below the expected then we may get a smaller scale sequel similar to ME2&3, if sales are abysmal then Mass Effect is dead, there are layoffs at the studio and Montreal goes back to being a support studio to Edmonton.

I didn't really see my answer there, so I just said the closest I wanted: Montreal make Milky Way
Not that I want that as clearly as you put it there.
-Bioware Montreal make it, but get significantly shaken up by this response (especially if sales are lackluster) -I'm okay with Andromeda as a location. I'm ambivalent about whether a game is called 'Mass Effect: Andromeda 2'. -While expanding in Andromeda is okay, I'm also just as interested in involving (not only 'returning' to it as a focus so much) the Milky Way. Or even beyond both galaxies. As in, I'm not especially enthused about the concept of just opening up to more regions of this galaxy. -I don't necessarily strongly want a longer series arc with Ryder if Bioware decides to instead do larger DLC/an expansion pack, perhaps exclusively post-ending, instead. I'm okay with one game that tries to resolve matters instead of drag on 1, 2, 3 more games. But I'm also not going to complain if there's a 2nd Ryder title. Its just that right now I think I'd prefer feeling like Bioware's gotten it right within this one game. This isn't the ME1 era where it makes more sense to do more games, announce a trilogy, etc, imo.
So put me between option 1 and 2, just in enough ways leaning 2. I only had to explain what I meant by it.
EDIT: I want to put this clearer. When it comes to Andromeda and Ryder and the Montreal studio itself, I don't think and had proven themselves with this game, so I personally prefer to see a DLC/expansion cycle over the next year (or if need be, year and a half to two years) show me, instead of first insisting on their quality with a second game. That's all. If they won't do this, then as far as I see it, they may as well go in whatever other direction. I like this game, but I have many problems with it and in pretty much every area. I'd much rather this be addressed first to a significant extent in this game itself rather than do the whole spiel of 'We have the story/setting/gameplay/design/etc you want in this NEXT game, while the same protagonist and galaxy and studio, forget about that old game!'. Nah. Fix ur sheet first, the stuff that can be fixed. Post-ending expansion that makes things wonderful (as some RPG expansions can), would be, well, *wonderful*, thanks.

Honestly, I have no concept of which studio does what or why one might be better than another. Maybe some background would help with voting for those of us who don't know.

Honestly, I have no concept of which studio does what or why one might be better than another. Maybe some background would help with voting for those of us who don't know. Edmonton made the trilogy, but their currently working on the secret IP and (correct me if I'm wrong) DA4. Montreal made ME3MP and the Omega DLC. Andromeda was their first full game. Aside from a few people who moved from Edmonton to Montreal, most of the team who worked on MEA hadn't worked on the trilogy. I put the option in, because I've seen a few posts around here saying that the faults of Andromeda lie with the fact that it was made by a relatively inexperienced dev team. In reality, handing it back to Edmonton probably wouldn't make much difference, because a lot of the people who worked on ME1-3 have left Bioware altogether.

I... Kinda want a new Mass Effect spinoff that's all multiplayer based off of Apex Teams. It would have to be a nice combination of Warframe mixed with Black Desert Online, etc. EA/Bioware would be stupid not to make such a thing.
Imagine all of the awesome new fluid combat, but with deeper character/weapon customization, cosmetics, etc. Instead of the same multiplayer maps over and over, there would have to be some kind of overarching story though where different types of missions would contribute to. It would be less RPG, exploring, vault, etc.
I'm not talking about the current multiplayer mode in Andromeda. Something much bigger than that.

They need to clean up their houses first before they touch anything that regards to the mass effect universe this one believes. Or "Calibrate" their developers so they won't mess up again.
(Before this one begins please do excuse this one's poor english grammar since english is not this one's first language.)
And meh for the new Bioware edmonton's new IP or new game title. Because that ridiculous GTA 5 VIRTUAL RAPE sam maggs is part of that new IP designers. sam maggs did not contributed to the new ME:A(and yet the game's plots and scripts are that bad) for sure however she did openly showed that she works at Bioware edmonton as a writer and working on the new IP. If you just take a moment and skim over her twitter briefly, her tweets are mostly overreacting buffooneries and attention baits mixed with preposterous SJW POVs. Then if you look closely on some of her followers and close friends then we can see that some of them are Bioware edmonton's game devs too. Unfortunately they are same peers as Sam maggs and some are worse, extremely fanatical thinkings and views towards society. So i see no differences on Bioware Edmonton. in fact i think Bioware Edmonton is following the exact same path as the Montreal division. no wonder casey and other original executives of Bioware left the company.
If these nonsense keeps up EA and Bioware will be on the steep downfall. fortunately i suspect this FANATICAL SJW propaganda problem will resolve by itself but with undoubtable damages and losses on both Bioware and EA. financial loss will be the biggest damage followed by Bioware's overall image. EA is a corporate like any other corporations. It seeks maximum profits with minimal investments. if bioware stays on this nonsensical path then its business would be bad. Bioware will make a habit of costing EA more than time AND money. Since EA already tasted Bioware's success from the ME 2 and ME 3 and made good amount of profits; EA will not tolerate ME:A type of failure and bad sales ever again (prices of ME:A and ME:A deluxe edition Dropped 20% 2 days after the release day. Felt bit betrayed about that but sales of this game must be that bad i suppose). I think EA will do something about Bioware sooner or later. maybe EA considers that the direct intervention is necessary and assumes the direct control of the Bioware and its Development and HRs temporarily otherwise shenanigans like ME:A and DA:I will leave EA no choice to dump Bioware, toss bioware titles to other companies under EA to minimize damages and losses. If corporates see the fact that monkeys work better and more efficient than humans then corporates WILL replace humans with monkeys to maximize their profits and EA is no different (Economy's one mean mother huh?). So even if Bioware's SJWs sleeper cells are willing to sabotage the bioware or take over the company on their own with their ridiculous agenda, EA won't let it happen unless SJWs make more profits than the previously glorious Bioware for which Most people will consider that as unlikely.
However I think EA will do something bold soon to bioware divisions after the ME:A DLC cycle is over. because so far the Bioware's attitude shows no sings of contrition but justifying their mistakes and causing dissension with their own fans and that is making their problems even worse. So far their attitude is similar to the below.
Me:A devs: fans you've become an annoyance, you've changed nothing. That what you know as SJW is your salvation thru destruction. You cannot stop us. We are the SJWs, your perfection. we will bring your kind into the harmony with our own. Prepare for our domination(of bioware and other game companies)
They are similar to those of blind citadel councils, Won't admit facts.
it is monstrous that those Fanatical Devs are forcing their political and ideological agenda toward other people especially on their own franchise's fans. If they BELIEVE certain social issues are not treated as they want them to be treated and have problems with social issues then they should have been social activists rather than game designers. then again even if they are game designers in the first place before their strong and fiery ideological and political beliefs they should not implement their views to games especially to a game that emphasizes on players' choices and conversation algorithms which are based on players' tastes.
In our trilogy cycle, we at least had many varieties of choices during conversations and interactions with other NPCs with slight variations depending on our companions presented during conversations. In our cycle we even had great renegade or paragon choices that were complimented with great voice actings(thx to Jennifer hale) that we just had to choose renegade options just to see the hilarious results and voice actings. now we lack those. It appears this ME:A cycle care too much about social issues and social injustice that irrelevant to the game. gaming evolution took the strange path. In our trilogy cycle we had MANY varieties of races; qurians, drells, volus, vorcha, hannar, geth, collectors, prothy the prothean and (tentatively excited)elcors with boring voices yet (bad@sfully)had hilarious scripts. but in this cycle we have very human like council species with very human like cultures and behaviors. heck even the faces of asari people all look same to the Lexi t'perro except peebee. Not so much of diversity. (Inhales)the story says that the last ark didn't start the journey because it had to accompany all the necessary life support systems, ensure survivability of multiple non-council species. Suspect Bioware changed the story so they can reduce the workloads. Less diversity of species in the plot, less work required. (Inhales) for a game that focuses on intergalactic plots and races, very inefficient and poorly designed. Problematic. Hope future Mass effect games will be better but doubtful unless Bioware changes and starts to do observation, interpretations and adaptation to fans' opinions but highly doubtful with current bioware's denying attitudes, (inhales) also problematic. Not only that, discovered some asari people were discussing about their gender role in their society while they are consisted with one gender. discussing about "wanna be male role" or "female role". very human like POVs(since Devs are humans too). SJW DEVs had to write scripts that those asaris want to express the gender role that matches their feelings for sake of the gender equity. asari people from ME:A, should not be caring about their gender roles in the first place. Evolved with only one gender and have society with one gender that can mate with other species' male and female. genders are irrelevant to asari. scripts were very (inhales) anthropocentric, Injustice, narrow visioned. problematic for writing future mass effect games.
Now for mac walters, i kind of understand his current position. He did great job on the Me2 and ME3 except for the ending(but i think endings were good. Not great but made me think) EA is infamous for rushing their games and pushing Its Devs to their limits to milk the most profits out of its games. When the ex-bioware montreal's game designer exposed the work conditions of BIOWARE montreal and EA, i was not surprised. I kind of expected that to happen sooner. Remember the old battlefield 3? It was rushed so fast that even the big company like the DICE couldn't avoid BF 3 being buggy and unfinished. Game developers of DICE had to work so much without breaks and leaves, executives of DICE had to let their Devs to take a break before their first DLC "back to karkand" was put on under work thus the delay and Executive producer openly said so. How would you like when you work overtime constantly with extreme pressure then not get paid for your overtime works just because you and i cannot fished our extreme work loads that we are supposed to finish in short amount of time? and when we open our mouths to discuss the overtime payments or even different opinions regarding the designs of game we are working on, we will be put under the "incompetent" team which comes with minimal benefits, only does other teams' unimportant minuscule works, not a single chance for a promotion, no voice or authority what so ever and guaranteed lay-offs when our contracts are up? It is understandable that mac walter had to suffer the burn-out syndrome. Actually 4-5/10 workers working in corporates suffer burn-out syndrome. It is that common because apparently America is a heaven for corporates' CEOs but nightmare for employees because American corporations can do whatever they want since that is considered as freedom and free economics.(again unchecked free economy's one mean mother huh?) oh By the Goddess, poor canadian Bioware which became an "indentured servant" of EA which likes iIlium like economy...So i think we should give him a break, literal breaks so he can come back with fresh minds and ace the next ME game. Also i would really want to see Bioware to learn from the CD projekt RED's attitude. Cyberpunk 2077's trailer had "coming when it's ready" statement at the end of the trailer. Instead of releasing a game with crappy, buggy and incomplete animations and voice works how about Bioware finish "CALIBRATING" animations of each NPCs and Calibrate mechanics of each character class?(whoever designed the biotic cooldown which is capped at 100% must hated biotic combos and tech powers in ME 3) i really wish EA and BIOWARE learn that important lesson
PS If virtual rapping and white supremacy are dehumanizing then it is a very good irony that mass effect title is about killing sentient species, animals and even sentient machines struggling with its survival. Also it is a funny that andromeda's sentient races are "murdered" by "intergalactic invaders" to plunder habitable planets with good amount of resources(which is rare in vast cosmic arena). Hypocrisy at its best.
PPS please beware that lots of ME fans and players are eager to monkey punch you hypocrites in Bioware like Cmdr. Shepard punching Khalisah Al-jilani.
I'am done here. I should go.

The engine experience doesn't concern me so much as the creative direction and writing.
The dialogue is terrible, the ideas are vapid and banal - no amount of Frostbite experience will correct that. They need better ideas.
Immersive world-building can be done with pixels.

If they want the sequel to do better it needs another 4-5 years development. Not because it is being built up from the ground but so they can not bother trying to get it to run on XboxOne and PS4 and rather focus on Xboxs/PS4Pro or if Sony MS decide to scrap the incremental updates whatever new console they release. I do believe they'll keep this half way through life cycle upgrade though so id imagine the next upgrade after ps4 pro and xbox s will make the originals obsolete.
This way DA4 and the new IP will be released for current consoles towards the end of their life cycle. Releasing MEA2 on current hardware now in 3+ years (meaning its 6+years old) will only lead to another DAI debacle where a lot of content was scrapped because it wouldn't run on the Xbox360/PS3. I'd like to see BioWare release one game (per franchise) on each console generation so as to allow them more freedom in creating the game without working with limited hardware.

The moment the story ended and the credits rolled, I knew I couldn't wait for the next one. The story is wide open still, the antagonist is running wild still. And beside's we have only been to one cluster in the galaxy, of I hope many! I've been in love with Bioware since 2007, Canadian company, can't go wrong in today's world! I bet the conditions at any Bioware studio is the least toxic place on the face of this earth, go play No Man's Sky.... imagine being a part of the crew behind ME. Oh the feels! Just please, PLEASE don't make us wait like 2 years for the next one D: Unless you give us more to do meanwhile. Like actually building that garden with Cora, and maybe a nice lakeside cabin. Or winter loft. Or desert bunker, lol. Or the first intergalactic footy league. Each race would excel in their own field, speed, toughness, vision, etc! Such ideas of galactic harmony and fun. Love ME

So after everything that has happened, you want Montreal again? You people are the biggest self-haters I've ever seen. I voted for Edmonton, but I, personally don't want to see people lose their jobs for an initial offering. Redemption can only come from trying again. Of course, you have to believe that redemption is necessary and cost-effective.

People don't realize how powerful word of mouth is to games especially on the internet. Witcher 3 sold a lot because of word of mouth being positive. MEA will not sell well because of negative word of mouth, low sales will lead to bio Montreal closing and mass Effect becoming a retired franchise, mark my words...what could have been lads and lasses.... Dude, I saw a Bioware badge, the kid got drinks. It took me a while to see the pattern of change and inconsistency because I love the franchises more than I love movies, TV, etc. I feel like I have legitimate concerns and when I ever posted on the older forums (prior to EA's acquistion) I never had a criticism negated. What I always got was a suggestion or nothing at all. Common courtsey is lost.

They need to clean up their houses first before they touch anything that regards to the mass effect universe this one believes. Or "Calibrate" their developers so they won't mess up again. (Before this one begins please do excuse this one's poor english grammar since english is not this one's first language.) And meh for the new Bioware edmonton's new IP or new game title. Prepare for our domination(of bioware and other game companies) They are similar to those of blind citadel councils, Won't admit facts. it is monstrous that those Fanatical Devs are forcing their political and ideological agenda toward other people especially on their own franchise's fans. Just give it to another studio, it's clear that Bioware Montreal is not up to the task and the A-team Bioware is working on new IP.
