Oh my word... My first was an amstrad 464 (with the colour monitor - envy me!) I guess I get to join this group too! Yay?

My first was a Commodore 64... with an old black and white TV set. Years later, after losing the last round of Frank Bruno's Boxing at about the last second, I punched the thing hard enough to make its lights go out forever. Colour monitor time!

Okay, going through I find a reference to "V" but not a link to the theme tune?
This thing freaked me out as a kid (I was a lil' bit sheltered)

[looks at the previous posts] ... I'm slowly getting over the 80's, but there's still a lot about that decade that makes me twitch. I'm also glad I don't have many pop culture memories from the 70's. One of the best things about the 80's is reality programming wasn't around...another is I was made aware of the band Def Leppard...and back then guys wore those snug fitting jeans that kept my attention as I walked down my highschool halls behind them. I wept for the teenage girls of the ninties, they missed a lot during the baggy pants, grung days...they really did. The '80's. Good decade. I've seen Def Leppard in concert a couple of times.

He did a guitar solo using a beer bottle. Awesome.

Even my kids have more concerts under their belts than I do. Recently Alice Cooper, Cher and Queen w/Adam Lambert, they came home really excited. I know they'd go to an Ozzy concert for sure. At the KISS concert, did they play Heaven's on Fire by any chance? I love that song.

Is there another one here who watched the first moon landing on TV as a child? Generally, the good old times weren't so good, but there was a spirit of exploration at that time I'm very much missing today. To think it's more than 40 years later and we haven't been on Mars yet... I was born six days later, that's why my mother always said to me "I'm in the moon" equal to "have one's head in the cloud" or "to be in the cloud", depends on US/UK expressions if I'm right. The race to the moon, was an ego race, when the USA reached first the moon, it was over. Since that time, I'm sure that if gouvenments had co-operated together we would certainly be more ahead than today. But bankers prefer the taste of war...and intersideral debts I'm convinced that today's advanced materials allow to go further now. Spacial shuttle like Columbia still makes me dreams (I can't help thinking of ME, good gamer deformation... ) www.dominicdesbiens.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/navette-spatiale.jpg

First real concert I went to was Black Sabbath's Never Say Die tour in 1978 w/Van Halen opening for them. Also saw Queen with Freddie Mercury and Judas Priest (UFO opened for them - meh). After that it was mostly punk/gothindustrial bands -- The Damned, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, PiL, Gang of Four, Psychedelic Furs, Bauhaus, Ministry, NIN... and lots more.

Generally, the good old times weren't so good, but there was a spirit of exploration at that time I'm very much missing today. To think it's more than 40 years later and we haven't been on Mars yet... I stayed up as long as I could watching the TV, though my parents kept sending me to bed. Somehow, I instinctively knew it was history in the making. As for going to Mars, it's slowly but surely coming. We cannot afford to remain only on Earth. Sooner or later we are going to colonize the rest of the Solar System (though I doubt I'll be around when that happens).

To think it's more than 40 years later and we haven't been on Mars yet... 1969 I was 5 years old in Grade 1 and then they herded all of us into a giant room with a tiny black and white TV at the front and I saw this 'That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.' I thought it was boring at the time. There were indeed others that watched the first moon landing as a child.

It was fun watching Gene Simmons do his crazy stuff on stage Cher did a concert with Cyndi Lauper out here back in...June?? maybe, my girls enjoyed it, but who wouldn't, Cher has an AMAZING voice. One of my all time favorite female singers. And not wanting to be rude, but...screw you! I would've LOVED to see them perform Heaven's on Fire live!! UUGGGHHH...Envy...envy..envy... Metellica playing Nothing Else Matters & Enter Sandman and Twisted Sister playing I Wanna Rock & We're Not Gonna Take It would have been others I would 've loved to see, too....so sad...

I didn't go to many concerts, only those my boyfriend wanted to see and took me along. 38 Special Billy Joel Grateful Dead -- appropriate for this thread. But my favorite was Tina Turner. She was 50 and still hot AF. This was a few years earlier than the concert I went to.

Confession: Luke Skywalker's hairstyle looked dorky to me when I first saw Star Wars around 5 years old. Today...it's...it's still awful looking. At least I'm no longer mistaking him for Han Solo. (Hey, I was five!)

The space bug really left me when I learned how long it would take to get to Mars and what that really meant. Also, Columbia (I think?) blowing up didn't really help. I think I was 10-11 and we all got called down to the cafeteria. I think some of the teachers there were so proud of a teacher going up into space. This was in the mid-80's, and didn't really hit me again until ST:TNG came out. After that, it never really hit me again until I found out about ME.
EDIT : The Challenger. That was it.

I was in school science class and we were watching the Challenger launch on live TV when it exploded. It was pretty terrible. I loved the romance of the space shuttles, but it was time to let them go. I think they were still using 8 inch floppies. And the foam tiles kept breaking off. I was sorry they weren't replaced by other manned vehicles but it might be for the best. Space X had a rocket explode earlier this week, thank goodness it was an unmanned satellite launch. The Columbia also disintegrated on reentry in 2003, so you might have been remembering that. The Martian has rekindled interest in NASA and space exploration. They said their astronaut applications jumped after the movie came out.
