Few animes caught my eye. Macross. This one caught my attention because the mechanical dynamics make sense. There's no fancy flying capes or huge swords or anything fanciful. Loved this anime to bits. I bought the books later to understand how the fighter planes could change, clearly it was the alien technology but what was it? How did it work? The novels explained it.


Patlabor was to follow a few years later with the same down to earth concept. Mechs running on OS and having to be updated now and then. Reminds me of Windows.

My enduring memory of Blake's 7 is being traumatised by the ending:

In making Battle of the Planets, they famously completely butchered the story of Gatchaman to try and turn it into something to cash in on Star Wars, even to the extent of adding R2D2 7-Zark-7. At the time, I had no idea about any of that and I loved it.

42.  I fit in this category only because of age, not my maturity level.

Battle of the planets was my shit.

I remember the first time I saw Doctor Who. Fourth Doctor. I'd already seen a picture of Tom Baker somewhere, and I remember thinking his voice was a lot deeper than I imagined.

Then I saw the lighthouse episode and kind of loved him. "I have bad news. There's a monster in here and very soon we'll all be dead." And then he grins.

I remember this fondly
