Quite a few of the shows that US folk remember fondly were never really shown here in the UK, or weren't popular. Some of my earliest memories are of watching the Fourth Doctor... My first regeneration: (Just slightly worse SFX than nowadays.) I don't care what anyone says, IMO Tom Baker was the best Doctor, ever. This might be the best post in the brief history of this forum.

ST TOS re-runs. LIS re-runs. Robin of Sherwood
Few animes caught my eye. Macross. This one caught my attention because the mechanical dynamics make sense. There's no fancy flying capes or huge swords or anything fanciful. Loved this anime to bits. I bought the books later to understand how the fighter planes could change, clearly it was the alien technology but what was it? How did it work? The novels explained it.
Patlabor was to follow a few years later with the same down to earth concept. Mechs running on OS and having to be updated now and then. Reminds me of Windows.

I don't remember Blake's7, but of course I remember the original Star Trek. You have Robin of Sherwood, but did you ever check out When Things were Rotten? And that anime you put up kinda reminded me of Battle of the Planets.

Mel Brooks. I didn't see his version of Robin Hood. Science Ninja Team Ghatchaman, yes. But I don't recall the English title, I'm not sure it was shown in English at the time.

In making Battle of the Planets, they famously completely butchered the story of Gatchaman to try and turn it into something to cash in on Star Wars, even to the extent of adding R2D2 7-Zark-7. At the time, I had no idea about any of that and I loved it.

wha... i don't even... ...dafuq is dat? ... ... ...old peeps are tough. It's a safety measure to prevent explosions! It's actually a piece of cardboard used to protect the magnetic head of the disk drive during transport. This is a model from late '70s. In the mid '80s most floppy drives started parking the magnetic heads when not in use so this thing wasn't needed anymore. It doesn't get more hardcore than that! And yeah, the Kaypro II is a "portable" computer that weights half a ton.

Ah, yes!! The "old people" attention span. I apologise profusely. Yes, you should apologize profusely for wasting my time with taking up a moment of my attention. Now, run along. The grown ups want to make fun of you. On a side note: the youth who take the time to try to make fun, intimidate or insult me about my age are wasting their time. You see, you too will grow old. You too will go through the same. How you deal with it. That's an unknown. I do feel sympathy for those who see aging as bad. Because it's an inevitable. Now. Before this turns negative or worse. I'm done replying to you. Good luck. Have a nice day. Success!!! My first butthurt victim on these shores!!!!! I'd like to thank everyone who made this possible. For the record, I'm not young either.

First started watching in 1978. I suspect though that (in reference to Uncle's post above) that you must have seen Space 1999 in the UK as that was a Gerry and Sylvia Anderson show (Thunderbirds, UFO etc)?
