Not to mention he was very furry.

[ Star Wars image] I was 9-going on 10 when this iconic movie came out and I saw it 11 times in the theater. I only saw it 7 times in the theater... The first one of those I saw in theatre was Jedi, but I remember my parents renting a VCR when Empire came out on VHS so I could see it. I ended up watching it six or seven times in a two day span before we had to return it. The first non-Disney movie I remember seeing in theatre was E.T., but I didn't get what all the fuss was about.

Sadly I was only two when Star Wars came out, but they showed it in my school hall a few years later, and of course I watched it so many times on TV/video and later DVD. The first Star Wars movie that I saw in the cinema was Return of the Jedi. I remember going home and making a pair of Lightsabers out of Lego! Unsurprisingly they weren't particularly resistant to duelling...

BTW speaking of Disney who remembers this?

Those of us in our early forties are probably the first generation to grow up with home computers. For those who are a little older, how did you come to gaming?

I often wonder if it would`ve had as much an impact on me had I been older, I just remember being so fixated by it and everytime it ended all I could think was `Wow!` and I always laughed at Chewie`s `Rawwwrrr`at the end.

I became a mother and thought my kids new toy looked really fun. I had friends who had earlier versions of video consoles like Intellivision and Colicovision and Atari but I never really played on a regular basis until the early 90`s when I got my kids a Nintendo.

As lovely and fun as it was, I don't think Star Wars would have made such an impression on me if it hadn't felt like fantasy in outer space with swords and magic and everything. I was so there for that.
I missed all of the epic fantasy in the 1980s that was trying to be some combination of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings because I didn't have a car to drive to bookstores, and this was in the horrible abyss before online ordering.

Those of us in our early forties are probably the first generation to grow up with home computers. For those who are a little older, how did you come to gaming? I dabbled at first. You know, "Hey it's an arcade and I have... two quarters." I was into D&D before, and eventually I had a friend who was playing Dark Age of Camelot. I badly wanted to do that. I logged in and it was FANTASTIC I have screenshots from every MMO I've ever played... except that one, which is a shame because I have a lot of fond memories. I was a healer with magic and wandering through strange forests and fighting monsters with other people. We went on adventures and Walked The Land (there weren't a lot of quests, as far as I remember). It was a dream come almost true in two dimensions.

Because in my mind you were somewhere in your mid-thirties. That said, I didn't realise that vertigomez was a woman until this month. I can be a little slow...

This thread seemed like it could be fun. It probably wouldn't have come up otherwise I am apparently older than mid-thirties... though my emotional age is variable.

I'll just leave this here: Oi Buddha! I always thought you were a fella?!I probably remember it more fondly than it actually deserved... That's pretty funny. I've never seen it before. The only Monkey God I know and like is the one in Journey to the West, a China production in the 80s.. It's a faithful adaptation, a good one too, of the classic novel. The actor who portrayed Monkey God is the best I've ever seen. It's hard to convey anger and mischief, etc, under all that makeup but he did it.

Going back a bit further in this thread (sorry I got here late): I'm from Vancouver. We have a ferry system along the coast. The ferries game area included arcade games including Pong, Asteroids, Centepedes, Space Invaders, and others. Good times.
I remember those well. Easily the best part of the trip to Vancouver Island! So many quarters spent wisely.... My younger daughter has an E.T. phobia, she`ll be 28 in Nov. and he still gives her the creeps. I have a friend (40) who is the same way. It came up in conversation the other week, which is perhaps why that movie was quick to mind. I see your `Darn`cat and raise you one from outerspace! (I did see it, but I was never a fan of Hailey Mills.) Aaarg! I remember that

So all the oldeies, what are the oldest computer games you own/remember? I'm thinking PC games, not console. Baulders Gate is a baby. I remember playing text adventure games. Zork type. Then: Star flight A Bards Tale (back when EA didn't suck!) Wizardry Wisards Crown Ultima I through IV Civilaization series Master of Orion

I had my first ZX Spectrum clone when I was 24. My first games were Alien 8, Knight Lore and Everyone's a Wally. After 30 came my first PC with the Ultima series, Monkey Island and from there...
