What's funny is, if you save the Krogans and return to the Nexus and have't saved any other Ark, you see A LOT of Salarians coming off the Ark in a cutscene.

If I have to choose, I'll choose against Krogan. Including even to bring Drack with me in my squad.
Why? I have a friend I play ME with for the story, and she adores Krogan and does everything with them, save for the majority of ME3 now of course.
So I can see the Krogan side of things with her. Helps that I'm not attached to the race as much as many others are.
Salarian it is.

First of all, it wasn't krogan rescue mission to begin with. Second, yes, a Pathfinder is more valuable than a bunch of krogan scouts, if these scouts were humans my choice wouldn't change. Third, don't even try that "nobody cares about krogans" tale on me, Drack.

Chose krogans as they lack the population of the salarians. We have about 700 to a 1000 krogan left while we have 15k+ salarians. If i want to have viable population then the krogan have to be saved.
Finally this war with the Kett will be a nasty infantry war and krogan make the best infantry. Another thing to consider is that Kett already have salarian exaltation researched but not the krogan and therefore i rather not give them another race they can exalt.
EDIT: after replaying it i decided to go for the pathfinder. Drack might guilt trip me but i now believe that saving the pathfinder is more important.

Krogan scouts > squishy Salarians Exalted salarians > Behemoths (as in 'better to have as enemies')
The math is simple. Why would I let the Kett have a more powerful army to use against me later?
We're at war, so even if Raeka is the best the salarians got, defeating a weaker enemy is my priority one, not saving the life of a single ally (however useful she might be). Raeka is not impressive to the point that she'll make a difference against the Kett and a lot of exalted Krogan.
Pathfinders are replaced all the time (hell, isn't a completely inexperienced one saving everyone's asses?) So yeah, if I'm handling the job well, no reason to believe that others cannot get the job done for their own species.
Bye, bye, Raeka.

This choice was the worst. Save Raeka and a few salarian survivors from being dissected alive or save Drack's scouts from being exalted into Behemoths. Ugh. With deep sorrow, I chose the salarians. I had already made Vederia the Asari Pathfinder after what happened with Sarissa. It would have been too inconsistent for me not to have Raeka's back, especially since she saved Ryder's life earlier on in the mission. Plus, the salarian ark is a complete mess at that point. They need all the morale boosts and good leadership they can get. Drack sure sent Ryder on an incredibly hardcore guilt trip for her trouble though. Yikes. When did she "save the Pathfinder's life"? I can't recall this part, for some reason. We aren't talking about the unneeded salarian intervention in that big fight, are we? I was stomping those kett, either way. The squad's claims of "wow, they saved our asses" actually made me chuckle. This was one of the better choices, if not the best, in the game. I chose the krogan, because I didn't want the Archon getting more practice at exalting their species. Also, three lives to one, and that one is a Pathfinder who chose to risk her life in a daring fashion. It was a tough call. When those appreciative krogan showed up at the perfect time, late in the game, it made me smile.

When those appreciative krogan showed up at the perfect time, late in the game, it made me smile. Fair enough. Your math is off though; it's not three vs. one. It's three scouts versus a Pathfinder plus the multiple salarians you subsequently help her rescue. And, yup, I was referring to Raeka showing up to provide "overwatch" when you get "swarmed" by kett. Gameplay and narrative don't always line up neatly. I tend to default to following the story rather than game mechanics in those situations, ymmv. Raeka backs you up then and multiple times later in the game. She's a good character, despite her heroic intervention being executed rather poorly.

I choose Raeka, seeing as how she is the only original pathfinder that we can actually save, plus I figured that a trained pathfinder (especially on that may be able to tap into STG resources) has more value than a few Krogan scouts.
Plus, I prefer that the Krogan are exalted than the Salarians (brawns vs brains...rather fight the brawn than the brain).
At this point in the story, at least when I played it, I already helped out the krogan big time by giving them the remnant drive plus helping them recover Okeer's research data. The Salarians were undergoing horrible torture for who knows how long. They may be short lived, but they have the brains to really help push our foothold on andromeda to another stage. Or, if exalted, to really hamper our efforts.
Plus you only fight like 5 exalted krogan in what remains of the story, so not that bad... Besides, just how many scouts did the Archon and the Kett really capture??? Can't be all that many.
While I can explain it now, at the time it was one of the hardest decisions for me to make in the game.

I was pretty content with my decision to save Pathfinder Raeka. Although, I was conflicted when the decision came. Considering that the Initiative had lost 3 of the 4 original Pathfinders already, it seemed important to the save the one that I could. Plus after hearing and witnessing salarians being vivisected on the Archon's ship, I was determined to not let another salarian die.
I had either forgotten any mention of missing krogan scouts prior to this or it had never come up. I didn't bring Drack on the mission so perhaps I missed dialogue there. However, after giving Morda the drive core, bringing Spender to justice and exiled, and saving the seed sheep for the New Tuchunka colony, I thought I had done right by the krogan in Andromeda so far. So I was a little irritated by Drack's outrage afterwards, though he seemed to get over it and Kesh was pretty understanding.
Also, I don't think there are any exalted salarians enemies in place of the exalted krogan Behemoths you encounter later on Meridian? I'd like to be wrong about that, however. I'd want to see how fighting them differs.

I saved the salarians because I wanted another (professional) Pathfinder on my side. I thought about that but then decided that an immature Ryder (which is how I saw him, although I know not everyone does) would figure that the original pathfinders weren't that essential - after all, things seem to be going well enough with his nepotism-promoted self, so why not make Drack happy. I was actually originally framing my first run as my "poor decision making" playthrough, although to be honest ultimately I think a lot of those poor decisions (like this one) ended up being either right or neutral.

I never chose the Salarians once. It's far more dangerous for the Archon to have Krogan armies made, and ones he might be able to remove the Genophage from. He had a handful of males, and considering the Kett have no interest in natural reproduction, I really see no risk in leaving him with a few nameless Krogan. Four Krogan versus ten Salarians including the Pathfinder isn't really a hard choice. The Archon had already unraveled enough of the Krogan's DNA to begin exhaltation before you are ever presented with that choice, anyways.

We had one Krogan rebellion and didn't need another. We have more Krogan than the Kett. Beyond altering other species with their own genetic structure as a template, we really don't know the extent of Kett engineering. I don't consider the Kett smarter than the Salarians, and it took them a lot of effort (and experimentation with live tissue) to creature a cure... which was technically a bypass. There's no way they'd cure the genophage or raise an army without taking New Tuchanka. The moral part of it is the fact that you have Krogan Scouts who went into things knowing there was a risk versus hapless civilians who woke from their cryosleep only to be tortured and vivisected while alive. The logistics of it is the fact that a trained Pathfinder (in a world where every pathfinder is second down the line of command - or even third) is extremely valuable.

I had just made peace with the Krogan Colony and they got their energy source. Drack was my boy so I knew he would eventually understand and forgive.
And I wanted to fight more Krogan behemoths which turned out great.
I did side with Gil over the ship right afterward so the status quo was good

It probably won't make a big difference. I saved the Krogan scouts in my play through and will save the Salarian pathfinder next one.

I saved Raeka. Not only she was a leader for her people she also had just saved me on the save mission. Besides i like her, she is a badass. And i can make peace with Drack by saving his son-in-law. ps: loved that decision, it really made me stop and think for a few moments.

It's implied that the Salarian Pathfinder just saved your life, I find it pretty scummy to not rescue her (him? I never figured that out). As for the ascended Krogan, having a few ascended Krogan is no big deal for the Archon, they need to capture more anyway to have any significant force and already have their DNA samples to mix with their own. It purely comes down to who you want to save.
I personally feel from a strategic leadership point of view it is more important to rescue the pathfinder than the scouts.
Drack's a big boy, he'll live. Yeah, but only after you saved her. Plus you end up saving the Salarian ark. Drack has a point about the need to save EVEN MORE Salarians instead of his own people. Salarians are here in Andromeda by the thousands. We don't have numbers on the krogan, I believe.

Save Raeka. She has something that the Kett should not be allowed to possess.
I didn't figure that out in time in the first play through. In the second, though, I'm planning on letting the scouts die.

I haven't heard otherwise but if you don't save the scouts then you won't get the post-game scene where Drack shows you his future great-grand kids and makes you their godmother/godfather

The binary choice in that mission was pure shite. Cheap angst. Storytelling bile. Feeble attempt at drama. A wasted opportunity to make having squadmates be in ANY way meaningful to the story.
I could keep going, but I have ranted about this particular mission enough already, meethinks.
I chose the krogans. They get screwed over enough as is. But it was a garbage decision either way. It was the stupid ass equivalent of Stroud versus Hawke in DAI. Atrocious. Lazy writing. Crap. Utter crap. Ridiculous crap.
I don't have enough adjectives or energy to keep going...

I had Ryder save the Krogan. There were more lives at stake with the Krogan, so it boiled down to a numbers game. While Pathfinders are important, like any leader they're replaceable, and no less expendable than anyone else.
I wonder if keeping Sarissa as Asari Pathfinder is an unpopular choice? I went that route as well. She made a tough call in a no win situation, and made the choice to go for the intel in an attempt to save the greatest possible number of lives. In short, she did her job. The only thing she did wrong was concealing what she did from the rest of the ark, rather than owning up to it. I had Ryder reveal what went down with Ishara, but then speak in Sarissa's defense and advocate keeping her as Pathfinder.

My first playthrough, I chose to save the krogans and sincerely believed that was the "right" or "good" decision. Then during my second playthrough, I tried seeing the big picture differently and chose to save the Pathfinder. But jeez, when you make the decision to save the krogans, no one questions your decision at all. The same is not true if you choose Raeka.

Save the salarians instead of the krogan. My first time I saved the krogan but this time I wanted to try the slarians instead. I felt horrible for no other reason then drack's response. Poor guy. Anyone else have this and will never choose the salarians again Nope.
