I like Ryder well enough. I am opened to switching a protagonist. But not to ONLY an Asari. why not? You seem to be content with ONLY human. If this is a serious question, it's rather disingeuous to suggest that an asari, or even just some other alien, is exactly the same as just playing human. Considering that humans actually exist and are vastly more varied in appearance due to their actual existence, they (I guess we) are the most neutral option. Asari are always female and some shade of blue or purple or possibly green if you contracted H Ivy (I'm not apologizing for this).

I saw somewhere on this forum people seriously suggesting making next protagonist to be gay established by game lore. Also afaik protagonist in The last of Us 2 will be lesbian... So why so intolerant to Asari? They are established people of MEU, nothing wrong having one as protagonist. Hell, it is a good idea for a ME prequel - imagine the story where we play as Asari Commando and discover the Citadel, establish contact with Salarians etc. That would be interesting, unlike meeting two "new" and "original" biped races in a galaxy far far away, one of which is readily shoveling quests at you two minutes after you met them...

Will never happen, Mass Effect is a human story. I'm ok with this. And given the option to play an alien, Asari would be fighting the suit rats for last place.

From a role playing perspective, you get to pick the percentages of your parentage; 1/4 Asari, 3/4 Krogan; 1/2 Asari, 1/2 Turian On a side-note, an Asari protagonist would be in keeping with BioWare's reductionist 'hair' choices - you get 1. Unless of course, you can factor in how your parentage affects your tentacles.

I'd rather play a Vorcha trying to find interspecies romance in the Milky Way.

I think the option would be nice, they could just use the same voice lines as the female human protagonist, just with variation where racial differences are necessary. What I meant was to be able to play only as Asari, with no human protagonist at all. All things considered, I think it will be too time and resource consuming to make playable protagonists of different races in the same game, and will ultimately detract more from from quality than add it. I can only imagine how much mediocre a future ME entry could be if Bioware had the excuse that a lot of time/resources went to developing more than one race to choose for the protagonist. Well, maybe if the development cycle for the next ME takes 20 years or more, there is hope (although I'm gonna have to be asking my grand kids how the game went).

Witcher 3 must be a very mediocre game...
