Oh dear god, I just realized that they really are textbook sues... Longliving, beautiful, biotic masters that are wise and culturally advanced... I had never realized...
But then, I am a guy and blue-titted spacebabes...

Technically - it's that very 'boring (noble) human', which had been the one and only PC before the marketing had tossed in 'hey, let's make some races, shall we?'. Like it or not, the entire plot had been originally desinged around a human. The Human, actually - initially Hawke was supposed to be part of the 'Exalted march' DA2 exansion. Rest of the races had been shoehorned into game pretty late in development. The result is - lore had suffered AND the race-sensitivity is almost non-existent and cosmetic, even for the elf (which does not understand the Elvhen speech and asks hell lot of stupid 'who's Mythal' questions). Huge budget was spent on 8 different models and 4 different VAs. Male\Female doubles the costs, here it had been quadrupled. And some things could never be fixed (like those scenes, where dwarf had to 'fly' and qunari had clipping issues). Was it worth it? I'd say 'no', but you hear how some people 'don't wanna be dat boring human'.Apparently, being a 'short human', a 'horny human' or 'human with pointy ears' makes The Difference. Basically, that's what non-human Inq was 98% of the game. But since my 'boring' option remained - I'm fine with that. Still, if there was a chance to repurpose the budget for more in-world activity and interactions instead - I'd rather have that instead of the 'PC diversity'. Honestly, I don't see why people not wanting to be a regular human in a fantasy role-playing game is a bad thing, but I'll agree to disagree.

Playing an Asari, or an alien in general, would be awesome imo. Not to pander to the hypersensitive community whining about the lacking shaggability of basically 75% of all npcs - really, go to rule34 if that's all you're interested in this game - but because the alien races in mass effect are cool as fuck and I want to play a witty krogan diplomat with a big ass hammer. That was not meant as a penis metaphor, but literally as a krogan with a huge fucking warhammer.
To quote Nathan Fillion but 'The Hammer IS my penis'

If we can ever play an Asari I hope we can play an Ardat-Yakshi. And when you don't like someone there should be an interrupt that makes you grab them by the throat and have them embrace eternity.

I've wanted the option to select from various races for this game since previous entries. The potential and reward can be huge if Bioware truly expanded on it and it would add separation fjr them from other companies. How many games give a TRUE meaning to races and such with differing dialogues actually mattering and making races seem like their own? If bioware can get that going it's something mass effect has never had. It would be a big ass plus to me. I've always wanted to try the Asari (my favorite race, ignore them being space babes cuz that really isn't why I like them although it is a cherry on top) among other races too. Not many games give actual meaning to making a variety of playable races matter. DA:O and DA:I do to an extent, but not in a meaningful way to make it really worth it if you ask me.

Cons: Asari are a mary-sue species and nobody likes mary-sues. Depends what Mary and Sue are willing to do for me. Pro: Only need one VA for the protagonist.

No. I like having different races to chose from, and that's one of the reasons I play MP. However, restricting choices to just Asari will work even worse for me than just humans. Having a choice between human, Asari, Turian and salarian will be better. And, of course everyone loves Krogan... and there we go, the nightmare for animations.
But just an Asari... no. Human is better. I like being able to chose more things for my protagonist than the shades of skin between blue and purple. They may be monogendered, but they look female. I often like voice and looks for males better. Also, if there is no leading man of distinction in the game, here we go, I make a protagonist. Saved the day in SWTOR.

I would rather play as a Salarian over an Asari because I don't play female characters when given a chance. If they allowed for all the council races to be playable, then I would be fine with that.

you mean with character creatior? what can we choose? freckles? eye color? and that's it
if people can't create an entire different character they will complain
and there are no fat or ugly asari (except PB) and some people will complain too all asari are slim and have attractive body, and some people will complain too
what about choosing the species? krogan, turian, asari, human, salarian, angara, etc
everyone happy

Sexist.
on topic, I would love for them to go DA:O route and have many options for races and then them do a first act thats specific to that character.
Ah well. Dreams.

After the strong negative reaction to the animations in Andromeda not being a good as one-man-show games like W3 or Horizon, I don't think BioWare is going to take risks with animating different rigs to accommodate multiple species. We'll be lucky to get the same 4 races we now have in the DA sequel. ME offers multiple species in MP, and I think it will stay that way.
