They look female, so they are female. That's not how it works lol. I know its not how it works on their biological level. They can have both parts. On a superficial level though, they are female. I can identify with male protagonist easier since I can put myself in their shoes. I can't do that with female protagonists.

I also would add, that for me, the palatable Asari only protagonist would be if cc options allowed you to create an andogenous weird alien that looks only remotely like an Asari a human protagonist sees. Because we know that the Asari look different to different species. What they look like in the mirror we simply do not know.

You can relate to being a super soldier in a different galaxy so long as they have the same genitals as you? Nah, I'll stop now. Like I said I kinda get where you are coming from but then, it's super strange imo still.

Their cc and their voice always is that of a human female. All species were voiced by humans. and they have male voices. having at least two VAs, male and female, as well as two branches of cc, male and female, is important. Focusing just on one aspect sucks, you might as well just play one of the many, many, many games with a fixed protagonist. BioWare is the only company that produces the games with the player-created one, and I want it continue to do so, creating the stories for both a male and a female leads. If you want to play an Asari, the mp allows you to do so for as many hours as you wish.

Nah, that's not a literal difference, it's what species were paying attention to, after all when you physically touch another species you can factually see what they look like. Unless you are one of those wild conspiracy theorists.

And I am a female who enjoys playing males on occasion (as well as boobs carrying protagonists). I vehemently object to having the option of sporting a six pack, deltoid, flat chest and having a cool low voice no longer available to my avatar.

Actually Ryder is very much a fixed protagonist, you don't create Ryder and Ryder has a pre-set personality, we can only do minor alterations in choices and tone here and there but the outcomes are 90% of the time the same, and the majority of lines in game are said without the players input at all. I would say I value more in-depth role-playing of a character much more than the ability to merely customize their face.

Well, from a technical point of view, there would be no trouble to allow the player to choose any specie, as the animations are already here (for the NPC and MP). The only question remaining would be the voice acting, but I guess BW could simply use filters to modify the voice of the actor (after all that is what is done already) to give the tone of turians and krogans for example.
Now from the story perspective, I am a bit torn. ME, and MEA are supposedly about throwing us from the familiar to the wonders of the universe and the unknown. Starting as a human makes perfect sense to have us somehow roleplay ourself into this strange galaxy. Starting as an ET would make this aspect much less immersive.
Furthermore, due to the complexes relationships many races have, it would force BW to develop a lot of specific dialogues, and franckly, I would prefer that they focus on story itself every time.
Finally, adding only asari to humans would be doable, but would be frustrating at the same time (many would say "asaris???? I wanted to play a badas turian!!!"), plus let's face it, the asari specie is some kind of fan service, I mean, these are an entire specie composed of space babes. I don't mind in the scope of a mutispecies universe, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with the direction the game would take if it focused on them.

Meh, no thanks. The Asari are my least favorite race out of them all. If you're gonna do something like that, then give us the option to play as multiple races like Turian, Krogan, Batarian, Drell, etc.

I would love to play as different species but the thing is that the Mass Effect stories have always been told from the human perspective so I don't know if they will do that.
