As much as I enjoyed playing in Greece and looking at Alexios *cough* I much preferred Origins. The only thing I liked better about Odyssey is the combat. I really want them to get rid of Layla. I have a strong hatred for her and the longer they use her the more I dislike her. Why did she get the staff? She sucks, imo I finished Greedfall so now I can finally get into the tour thing. I've shelved my Kass pt. I'm just not invested her for some reason. I'll mess around on Alexios and then maybe get back to my NG+ Origin that I dropped win Odyssey came out. Wonder when we'll get word of the next AC game? It's Viking themed and the rumor is it's slated for next gen. Popular theory seems to be that a certain character encountered in the DLC's DNA will be used for it. Which means the two things I hate most in Odyssey will be in this one.

It's Viking themed and the rumor is it's slated for next gen. I imagine it'll probably be a cross-gen game given that it should release right around the time the new consoles come out. We'll probably get an official announcement at E3 next year, as that's what Ubi usually does. Then expect an October release, or with the new consoles. Please let it be sooner than October next year!!!!!!

I'm playing through AC Odyssey for real this time, trying to really get into it this time. And so far, I can say I'm having a much better time. Here are two neat things that recently happened during my last three days of playing:
1. I got this rare achievement almost completely by accident called Stink Eye. I was exploring the island of Kaphellonia doing some last wrap up stuff before leaving the island, and naturally I hunt some goats as I go. One of them turned out to have an Obsidian Eye Fragment, meaning I just killed the goat I shoved Cyclops eye into, which to me was both a clever bit of game design, and just hilarious!
2. One thing I realize I love about many of Ubisoft's recent games is the whole system of instantly planning and trying to pull off a daring heist or break-in, only for something to go wrong and you need to improvise. I was infiltrating one base in Phokis, and I noticed that there was a trapped bear there. I decided to try and release the bear quietly and smoothly to create a distraction, but I got spotted during my attempt to get to the cage. So what was supposed to be a smooth distraction ended up a mad rush to open the cage and then get the heck away.

I'm playing through AC Odyssey for real this time, trying to really get into it this time. You're way more courageous than me. I realized yesterday that I lost my AC Odyssey save when my hard drive crashed a few weeks ago...and I don't feel like restarting the game just for 12 hours. :/ But then I don't feel like playing anything right now. I guess it's movie and TV series time for me.

I copy my saves to a different drive every couple of days especially when I am well into a game like ACOD and especially when I am a couple of hundred hours into a PT!!!!! Did you not like the game? The first part can be a bit slow and tedious, if you can get past the starting island (Kephallonia) it picks up pace and the main plot comes fully into play.

And the animal won't go after you first.
There is a big chance the cloud save might work.

Did you not like the game? The first part can be a bit slow and tedious, if you can get past the starting island (Kephallonia) it picks up pace and the main plot comes fully into play. The start is just boring. I actually don't hate the gameplay. I think that Origins had more interesting side quests too, but right now I don't even feel playing anything. I don't use cloud save, my upload speed makes it atrocious every time I enabled it (30 minutes to close a game, slow down in some other games, etc). I try to have my saves saved on another hard drive though, but a Windows 10 update reverted that in the last year and I didn't realize it (not the first time it happened). I also keep my games installation on another hard drive (I will be so happy when game studios stop putting saves in my games/my documents/app data and whereever other places in users they think it's great to save into to save them along the game).

Assassin’s Creed exists within the deep and rich history of our own world. Thanks to the real world people, inspirations, and settings, knowledge is baked into nearly every aspect of the game. Join us in a walk around Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus for a brief tour of what made these cities so important in 1191 during the Third Crusade, you just might learn a thing or two. And if you want to revisit the original game that kicked off the franchise, sign up for UPLAY+ to get access to it, and more than 100 other Ubisoft titles.

Thanks for the answers slimgrin727 and Hrungr. I'm gonna remain skeptical since I'm not much of Vikings type fan. And honestly, at this point, I wish the story would go back to being about Assassin's vs. Templars. I hope it looks interesting though, I've loved AC since the first game and would hate to give up on it

I hope it looks interesting though, I've loved AC since the first game and would hate to give up on it I think it's really interesting how we're getting a bit more insight into the roots of the whole Assassin's vs Templars conflict, but I agree it would be nice for a future game to return to those roots, maybe with a first or second Crusade setting (I know the Third Crusade was the subject of the first game, but including either the first or second can serve as a neat prequel to the whole series and go back to the roots). Then again, if there's one thing Assassin's Creed has proven, it's how to make some pretty solid games regardless of the setting. I mean, I'm not much of Ancient Greece fan, but AC Odyssey is proving to be a really fun game for me. We'll just wait and see what exactly this next game will offer in terms of gameplay and tone and style.

So, let's say I want to introduce a friend or family member to Assassin's Creed, mainly through the cutscenes and story mission gameplays (aka, I don't want to force them to play if they're not interested in video games). Their first real introduction was the Assassin's Creed movie, which they liked due mainly to it's ideas even though it's pretty slow as a film. Theoretically, they should know the basics of Assassin's Creed through that movie, including the basics of the Animus, the Assassins, the Templars, Abstergo, and maybe the basics of the Pieces of Eden.
So, I have two options for presenting the game series to them:
1. One is just to do AC 1 - AC 3. These games are the only ones that have a direct chronology and pretty much center solely on the traditional Assassins vs Templar conflict.
2. The other is just to showcase Origins and Odyssey, the newest entries in the series that (at least according to the modern setting chronology) take place right after the Assassin's Creed movie.
Which options would you guys recommend?

As I said earlier (back when I liked the series), I want to see two new trilogies like they’ve been doing lately. One is an East Asia Trilogy with China, Japan, and India or Southeast Asia. Second is a pre-EC(EC=European Contact) or early post-EC Americas Trilogy with Maya, Aztec, and Inca.

I'd probably recommend release order and I wouldn't ignore Black Flag or Unity and Syndicate BUT you could also start with Origins and Odyssey then start back at game 1. The problem for me with this is the changes and improvements in the games mechanics and visuals would be pretty jarring if you played them in anything other than chronological order, that could end up being frustrating.

The reason for wanting to skip Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate is mainly how following those three games, the plotlines involving Juno and Shaun and Rebecca are dropped suddenly. My plan so far is to showcase the main AC 1 - AC 3 series of games, then skip ahead to Origins, and THEN showcase Black Flag, Unity, and Syndicate before moving back to Odyssey.

If it was a single game, I would say Origins since it has a great variety in cultural landmarks across Egypt, looks amazing and the plot is not too bad if you tighten it up in a movie sequence without all the desert running and side mission stuff. You must include a pyramid climb because it does a great job of showing you how big those things actually are. Odyssey has the better gameplay and some great scenes (Brasidas warehouse mayhem), but it would look weaker if it's just cutscenes, as some of the better stuff is in side quests and the game relies on the player to be hands on, doing awesome stuff to the population.
AC1-3 would still look good if it's a cutscene story heavy experience. Most of their gameplay issues won't pop up this way. And it's the beginning of everything, so it's a good way to do it.

PCGamesN: Assassin’s Creed all-time sales top 140 millionwww.pcgamesn.com/assassins-creed-sales"... Admittedly, all those sales come across a total of more than 20 games, but it’s an undeniably impressive total, especially when you consider the series’ growth in recent years. Back in 2016, Ubisoft revealed that the series had shipped more than 100 million copies, meaning that in three years, it’s sold more than many of Ubisoft’s most notable franchises."

Back in 2016, Ubisoft revealed that the series had shipped more than 100 million copies, meaning that in three years, it’s sold more than many of Ubisoft’s most notable franchises." Origins and Odyssey were a damn impressive soft reboot and brought many newcomers to the otherwise stale and "more of the same each year" franchise. All the toxic whiny lovers of the "classic old AC non-RPG formula" can kiss it goodbye. With these sales no f*****g way Ubisoft is going back to it.

I can't believe they've sold that many AC copies, especially with the series lagging for a few years.

I can't believe they've sold that man AC copies, especially with the series lagging for a few years. There have been Remastered versions and some big sales where you could get older games for anywhere between $1-10. And I am sure Origins and Odyssey brought in enough new people who bought the older games too. Myself I bought and gifted 5 extra AC games after Origins was released.

I can't believe they've sold that man AC copies, especially with the series lagging for a few years. It was at 100m 3 years ago (in 2016). That's 40m copies split between Origins, Odyssey and a few remasters (some of which were given for free)...and what ever people bought of the others on sales.

Yikes that's a shit ton of sold games!!!!! Damn Impressive, I was a reticent late comer to the AC games cause of "hype" but thanks to the dead assassin at the start of the Witcher 2 ( ) I gave it a go starting with AC 3 and have enjoyed all of them. Some more than other ACBF and Odyssey But all have been fun.
