I wouldn't be surprised if that's just how the pitch at Sucker Punch went. Hey... y'know how Ubisoft's not making an Assassin's Creed: Japan? Do I have an idea for you!
But of course, it had a bloody console exclusive...
I'm sure Ubi will get there, eventually.
Why they won't do anything not part of the Mediterranean or northern Atlantic rim I just don't get.
Well they do tend to produce these games in clusters where they can reuse/reskin art assets, animations, and so on. And I'm sure they choose locations they figure will sell best to a western audience.
But ofc samurai/ninjas are popular too, so I think they'll get there. But I imagine costs are on their minds as well, as they'll have to create a lot of new content (art, characters, animations, etc.), and on next-gen platforms t'boot. And unless they plan to have more than one game set in Japan, those assets might not see more than one use.
I'm sure some poor dev over at Ubi is having nightmares right now about having to animate someone opening and closing a shoji door.

I hope that’s not a sign the next few games will be Northern Europe then, since they had to make new assets for Valhalla.
I also hope they don’t just do one game in Asia. Each area there can be host to a whole series of games themselves since that was the center of humanity for most of our history.

My problem is not that the games are shit, they are some of the best stories and characters but having played the new games I have so much trouble going back to the old gameplay and mechanics. I love the games but just don't have the patience to re-adapt to how to play the games. So wanted to re-play AC3 when it was remastered but I couldn't get past Boston because the gameplay mechanics were just too frustrating. I think I was also in the wrong frame of mind at the time, if I can get my PC working properly again I will try AC 3 again but no way could I go back and play the Ezio games again.

I don't find Syndicate that different from Odyssey/Origins personally. Less RPG and more adventure in term of gear, but gameplay/map design is pretty similar and the in-world mission boundaries just feels like a tech limitation. Same with Black Flag really.

I don't mind the older combat at all. I quite liked it
That's not to say I dislike the new combat, I just didn't have the problem with older combat that so many complained about. The stealthing is definitely better now though, imo.

The biggest difference is the story focus.
While I really enjoy Origins and Odyssey I feel like the stories don't really make much sense in the AC world as much as the older games. It feels all over the place or something. And I really miss the assassins vs templars stuff.

The combat actually isn't that big a deal but a lot of the gameplay like chasing all those characters through the sewers in one or two of the games, things like that.

Same. I felt like AC3 and Black Flag finally did a great job of humanizing both factions while also illustrating the fundamental and unbridgeable disagreement between them. Then Rogue and Unity tried to build off of that and kind of dropped the ball in terms of writing, and now the Templars and Assassins and their precursors have gone right back to being insane card-carrying villains and plucky, ill-defined freedom fighters, respectively.
I'm also getting really tired of game franchises adopting the open world format for no reason and ending up with weak and disorganized narratives as a result. Origins feels like Bayek is being pinged back and forth across the world and treated to a-minute-and-a-half cutscenes at most here and there because the developers are too afraid that you'll miss the mindless drudgery if they mete out more than a few seconds of proper story or character development at a time.
Every time I think the characters are going to have a deep or tough discussion exploring what's going on, they just laugh instead and skip to Bayek leaving in the morning for the next vague objective. It's maddening. I'm more than ten hours into the game and only barely know any of the major characters.
At least Bayek himself is very likable, if not particularly deep. I just did the side-quest where he uses a heron feather to talk a woman off a ledge, and that quest has more heartfelt, well-written and emotionally resonant dialogue than the past thirty levels of main quest put together. It's ridiculous.
Went back to play some Origins and was shocked to see how poor it was performing, even with better hardware then the last time I played. So I fiddled around with some settings and found the reason. If anybody decides to play make sure if you are running a gsync monitor that you have vsync set to ON instead of Fast. I usually use the gsync/fast combo for all my games but for some reason Origins hates that combo and gives it really bad frame skipping.

As a general rule, only use Fast sync when the framerate you get in a game is at least a stable 2x than your monitor's maximum refresh rate. Or yeah - you will get stutters. Which for Origins means only use it if you get 120+ FPS on a 60Hz monitor for example. No way you can get stable 120 in that game though, even on Low 1080p.

That's good to know, thanks for the extra info. Would be nice if it actually said that in the control panel

I have an AC Odyssey question I hope someone here can help me with.
I have my new computer up and running and the only game I have installed atm is ACOD. I forgot to switch my saves over and I'm too lazy to be bothered atm so I started a fresh game. But for some reason my photos in game don't save to my Uplay folder like they did before? Only on the website? I've looked everywhere and there nowhere to be found except on their site. Anyone know how I can remedy that?

Are you looking for them here? C:\Users\yourname\Documents\Assassin's Creed Odyssey\photos ? Just thought I'd ask the obvious.
What do you use to take your screenshots, just Photo Mode? Above is where they should be.

Yes, that's where they went on my other computer. The uplay folder is there but it's empty. I'm just using the in game photo mode exactly like I did on the other comp but they're not there or anywhere else I've looked.
Edit: I finally found them. I had to click on this pc/documents/assassin's creed/images. Weird that they're not in my uplay folder like before. But! Problem solved
After a week long ordeal I finally have Assassin's Creed: Origins installed on my PC. The first full download wouldn't run and when I did a repair on the installation it downloaded the full game again, but now the game starts.
So I guess I have another 100+ hours of game ahead of me and then my trek through all the PC releases of Assassin's Creed shall be complete.

Here's their Top 5 Picks...
1. Assassin’s Creed Origins 2. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag 3. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey 4. Assassin’s Creed II 5. Assassin’s Creed III
Bayek is the best Assassin’s Creed protagonist in the series and his story and his reasons for becoming the first “Assassin” are memorable and touching. I cared about him and his family. Rooting for him helped get me through the game, which was considerably longer and larger than older games.
Origins was a great game and is the best Assassin’s Creed game ever made. Maybe Vallhalla will be even better, but it’s going to be hard to top Origins. But I’m excited to find out.

I enjoyed Bayek and his story, it had more relevance to the overall Assassin theme but Edward and Kassandra will always be my favourite protags.
I enjoyed playing Black Flag and AC3 more in their day than Origins though and Odyssey has been my favourite from a combat and world build though. Origins for me personally was just too much desert, it was like Western Approach/Eos/Elaaden combined for me.

Assassin's Creed 2 only being 4th kind of triggers me, but overall not a bad top 5. My top 5 1. Assassin's Creed 2 2. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood 3. Assassin's Creed Origins 4. Assassin's Creed Revelation 5. Assassin's Creed Black Flag
