I never did actually do a recap or opinion post. I guess I’ll just drop a thought as it occurs to me.
I was unimpressed with some of the writing in THO. Conversations and relationships that should’ve at least required a few missions to develop instead took place in the span of a few lines. I can’t be specific without spoilers, but these conversations totally tanked verisimilitude. Maybe Bayek was using the Apple to manipulate minds? That would better explain the dramatic outcomes he seems able to effect with a few words.
I’m still minorly bummed about the weak new equipment; and the new outfit looks good but has clipping issues.
I like THO okay for $10; but I’d rather have had a more substantial expansion at a higher price.

I just wish there had been much more story. And I'm still really disappointed about Aya and Bayek not being together

I stopped playing ACO once the holidays kicked in for lack of time but I can't wait to get back into it. It's one of the best games I've ever played.

We know they were interred together. I don’t think they were reunited only after death. The awkwardness of unspoken love was clear during that ride to the rebel camp. They both seemed to struggle when it came time to part. Each looked upset to me.
Depending upon fan sentiment, I could see a trilogy for Bayek. (Some complained even about Ezio by his third game.) If Bayek goes to Judea/Palestine in the next game, maybe he’ll follow up on Aya’s invitation to see Rome in a third game. It sounds like the Order’s core is likely in Rome. I think they could possibly reunite if the Brotherhood were strong and secure and the Order greatly diminished, depending upon their own age. I see Aya fighting this war till the very end, honestly. Bayek, too, feels no longer like a medjay. He’s an Assassin/Hidden One now. That doesn’t mean that they can’t work together in a single location, as long as strong leaders are in place elsewhere. The Brotherhood must outgrow them, at some point.

I do think we will get at least one more game with Bayek, and if it turns into 3 I won't mind at all. I loved Ezio and I really like Bayek......I don't know if he will get to Ezio amount of loves, but he is damned close

Just finished Revelations! My order of preferences between the games are: AC1> AC2:B> AC2:R> AC2 I loved the ending of Revelations. Lots of feels! It was a fine goodbye for two beloved characters. NG+ has been confirmed by the Ubisoft Community Manager. “More details soon to come,” he says. This is great news. It will help this game a lot by eliminating those artificial levels (protagonist, equipment and foes) from the game. Now, we can play how we want with the gear we want. We can cultivate our collections of cool gear and actually have some use for them. I received the “Shield of Aaru” yesterday as my award for completing the Trial of Sobek. It looks like the “Tomb Guardian” minus a lot of wear. It’s a great-looking shield. It isn’t as good as Tomb Guardian, but it’s still very effective. I was unfamiliar with the name Aaru, so I did a search. It turns out the “Fields of Aaru” is synonomous with “The Field of Reeds”. The reference to the afterlife isn’t surprising, as the shield still bears the name Anubis spelled out in hieratic script. I've been wasting hard earned drachmae buying the new outfits. Most are hideous; but new options don’t appear until you buy the ones already on offer. 😒 There are some cool new looks sprinkled among the dross. I’m ready to put this game down, jumping back in only to get the TotG gear. I’ve played it more than enough since release. I can walk away and come back for NG+ and Curse of the Pharaohs. I’m not sure what I’ll play next. I’ve been thinking of AC Unity; the Dragon Age Trilogy; and maybe the short, artsy game Abzû in that mix. I’m surprised how good God of War looks. GoW3 was ass, lacking any semblance of story. I’m optimistic for this new one. I may give it a look if it’s more than unadulterated violence and mayhem.

Element Zero It was! I liked the conclusion, though I was not a fan of the Assassin's set-up overall. Well, hopefully they will give up Rogue next year, so I can play as a templar.

The new textures should help it quite a bit. I want a totally new experience, and have been reading up on games I didn’t play. I’ll take a good remaster, though, now and then.

Ooh I didn't realize there was an AC thread (although I don't even know why it didn't occur to me to check). I'm about 27 hours into AC:O! I love Aya she is the hottest wife. I also love Senu. I mean tbh Bayek is also the hottest wife. I don't discriminate.
I'm partway through The Crocodile quest (just found out their name), but I think I'm gonna stop there and get myself a few levels so I can do the stupid Siwa quest so that Bayek can stop reminding me to go to Siwa like literally any time I open the game or finish a cutscene. I think it's a bug but damn, Bayek. I get it. We must go to Siwa to see if the rumors are true. Please stop telling me to go to Siwa and talking over quest and story dialogue... I picked up the quest accidentally 10 levels ago and I am filled with such impotent rage because I think I'm still a few levels too weak to attempt it ):<
Small gripes aside, I am consistently impressed by the level of detail in the backdrops of this game. Like the different patterns on the horses, how many different faces they've gone out of their way to model for the NPCs, the kids, the different colored cats and dogs. It just makes the open world setting feel remarkably alive, which I feel like is something a good number of open world games fall short on. I find myself constantly stopping and just... watching all the things that go on in the background. It's really lovely.

Random AC Origins musings: When you’re in Libya, and Reda asks for a favor near Herakleion. I thought, “I’d like to nab that awesome Roman Warhorse. Maybe it’s time to finally complete the Hippodrome races.” Then I remembered how much they suck. The Hippodrome is a horrible disappointment in this game. It’s not that I even anticipated anything in connection with chariot racing. Rather, it’s just that bad. PSA: As I admired my platinum trophies*, I recalled an important message that I’d wanted to share. The “Free the Rebels” trophy (whatever it's called) from THO can be buggy. I freed all of them I could find, but didn’t get the trophy. There were no imprisoned rebels in all of Sinai left to free. Heading back to Lower Egypt, I found that there were no imprisoned rebels anywhere. It turns out that the “scaling enemies” feature bugs this trophy. If you turn off enemy scaling, rebels across Egypt are instantly imprisoned, allowing you to finish this trophy. Thanks to “some dude I don’t know” on the AC Forum for discovering the work around for this bug. There really isn’t anything to do in this game once it’s complete. It’s just dead. I’m at the point where even sight-seeing is becoming boring. I still enjoy the gameplay; but I need goals to accompany that gameplay. I thought about playing a variety of other games, but nothing seems to motivate me, at the moment. I scoured the PSN last night looking for a game I might like to experience, but meh. I can’t wait for NG+ for this game. *Just kidding, at least this time. I saw a list of recent activities that listed it.

Ah, okay. Clear as much of the area map as you can with a game this size, then dive into the story content. I'm going to try that on my replay. Actually, I did start a replay, but this nag ad for..I think the Hidden Ones dlc..kept popping up every single time I opened my map or my menu. And I am Always fiddling with my map and menu. I quickly became overwhelmed and just turned it off. I'll try again? Maybe it was a bug and it's fixed now. Or maybe I can turn off some..notification thing? Idk. But I can't play it if that continues. It's an impressive game, though. I gotta say. The attn to detail. How different the various regions look and feel. Both the environments and the people. And as was mentioned, when you revisit certain npc's there is different dialogue. They are "aware". It was cool. I even enjoyed the sidequests. lol! I can't believe I just said that. The main thing I like is that they didn't drag you across the friggin' map for it. they were all in the same relative area. Except for the rescues. But they were usually in a fort I wanted to take down anyway. I think they really helped to flesh out the world, the politics, and the people. I also enjoy the challenge of trying to stealth my way through a whole fort. The level walls frustrated me, though. I'm going to try that clearing process first. There comes a point in a story when I'm officially hooked. The momentum has dramatically picked up. It's resonating with me, and I go running off to chase this story only to run into a giant rubber level wall. Boing! I mean, I pushed through some of the other level walls. I'm like, "No, Ubi, I got this. I don't need you flashing your underleveled sign at me, and showing me where the door is..ye of little faith...I got this!" And I did got this. You know when you got it and when you don't got it. I'm not too proud to say, "Why thank you for showing me the door. I'll get my coat now and.. go level up apparently." There comes a point where you really can't do that anymore. I hit those walls hard a couple times when the story was really kicking in for me. I like the sidequests...well enough, but that's not where I wanted to be then. So, I turned it off in a wooshy kind of frump way. A couple days later I turned it back on and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of my PT. I was just pissed right then. I have not played any of the dlc yet. Idk what hints were out there about the next settings, or that Bayek may be the protag. I liked Bayek so that would be cool. I could see a continuing thread with, uh, eesh..Ayla? The modern world character. She's being conscripted into the assasin's pretty much. I'd like to see how that works out and where that goes. I'm one of those players that wants the modern day aspect of the AC games to not only remain, but be improved upon. I'd like to see about 65% historical game and 35% modern. But the modern day needs to be interesting and able to stand on its own. I want to do some shit in the modern world. Meet the other modern assassin's. Intrigue. Adventure. And a connection with the historical part of the story. I thought they were going in the right direction with Desmond in AC3. I was hoping they build on that approach. That said, I liked ACO quite a bit. I'm looking forward to second pt. I'm going to do the clearing thing; and there's still so much I have not seen and done. Too many tombs and temples I have not raided. Sidequests I have not done. I ashamed to say I didn't finish doing the star map thing for my son. They're well done scenes, too. At least the couple I did do. Hmm, and one day I'll learn how to write more succinct posts, but this ain't that day, huh

rapscallioness, you have a "stream of consciousness" posting style. It's fun. I agree regarding the side quests being excellent and well implemented. I also agree that leveled foes, weapons, and protagonist add nothing good to the game. They feel artificial and out of place in Assassin's Creed. I will say that the level-gated areas never hit in my way. The natural flow of the content matched the level-gating, and I was very over-leveled for everything between Alexandria and the end-game. You should check out those tombs. They each grant a huge bundle of XP and 1 Skill Point. Plus, they reveal some really bizarro new Isu lore. Based upon this lore, and past unused game ideas, I think Layla might eventually become important to the story. The Star Circles grant access to the Sphinx mystery. The reward is interesting, but weird. The DLC is okay, worth right about the $10 it costs. I definitely think Bayek will be back for another game. After the DLC, I think we can already guess the next two settings, assuming the games continue to perform well.

Patch 1.21 is now in the wild. It made a variety of adjustments that aren't easy to notice. It claims it fixed performance issues while using HDR. We'll see, I guess. I still get issues with draw distance, and the graphics downgrade affecting all platforms still isn't fixed. Ashraf said via twitter that they're aware and looking for a solution. They adjusted enemy scaling in the Arena Horde Mode. I generally don't play it, since I don't like the entire concept of blood sport. I did play the arena battles and get all of the outfits/weapons during my first PT. Now, going back to Horde Mode for the first time since day one, I was able to reach Round 20 on Nightmare + Scaling. The old universal threshold used to be 16, due to enemies outleveling Bayek too badly. I could've gone much farther, but I got sloppy for a moment and it was over. I was using a spear, too, rather than a sword. (I find swords to be the best all-rounders.) I'm sure some will advance pretty pretty far today, between the patch and the 5 extra levels most gained with THO. The Trial of Sobek is in its last day for this cycle, if anyone has missed it. Next up will be Sekhmet. That will round out the Golden Anubis set for anyone who hasn't yet missed a trial. I'm kind of hoping the next round of trials offers the Sword of the Duat and Jackal's Gaze (though I still have my JG). That sword looks like a nearly perfect weapon. It couldn't get much better without broken additions like extra legendary properties, or the like. If I get that sword, I may not use anything else very often. (It's not right that the best statistical sword in the game is currently a Helix/Weapon Pack item. SotD could fix that.) I wish scepters weren't part of the rotation. I'm not a fan. More than that, I wish we got more variety than Sword->Scepter->Shield->Bow + Outfit every single time. There could've been Anubis gear of nearly every category, if they'd made the models. Oh, well. I'm so drowsy I'm about to pass out. I didn't sleep since my cervical vertebrae wouldn't stay even somewhat in place. Lovely times. Pic:

After I talked up the "Sword of the Duat" last night, the "For Honor" Pack dropped today. It includes a crazily good sword, the Ippei Blade. It's a katana, so of course it should be able to cut granite obelisks in half. It should have four maxed traits and two legendary qualities. Ubisoft elected not to go this route (lazy, I say!), but it's still badass. Seriously, it's good. It has a 40% crit rate and a 40% chance to apply a bleeding effect. Lastly, it has "Instant Charging", which is the only quality I like better than "Health on Hit". Edit: It's a "regular sword", too, meaning it has that awesome finisher, rather than a "rage mode" type of Overpower. It looks great, too. That might sound weird from the "where's my realism guy", but I have an explanation. Most of this game's swords are modeled on real life weapons that ranged from 14-22 inches in length. Swords typically weren't long in ancient times. They hadn't yet discovered steel. The in-game models are pretty accurate and proportional, which means 16" swords are blown up to appear 40". It looks idiotic, this sword, while 1200 years (or really 1700 if Ippei Yasuyo) and 6000 miles out of place, it can be accurately modeled in-game. This sword would be 34"+, so it's not going to look idiotic in-game. I'll take anachronism over apple-sized pommels any day. I'm really tempted to just drop $2 on this. I know I'll probably acquire it via Heka Chest, at some point, but I'm feeling impatient. I don't want to be a dolt, so I'll wait a few days and see if I come to my senses. I'd love to start downing mounted troops and shielded dudes with that heavy charged attack and a 40% critical rate. Crazy!

As Emperor Palpatine would say "Do it" I have the points, since I bought a shield when everything was on sale. It's not like anything awesome is known to be on the horizon, so we'll see. Part of me doesn't want to support these overpriced MTs. Weapons should cost half of what they do. On the other hand, though, I know that MTs are now essential to cover AAA costs. (CDPR and their ideal situation are not really a fair comparison for most publishers/studios.) As MTs go, these aren't terrible or intrusive. Better to support this approach than the shite we see in BF2 and elsewhere.
