I am glad ACO exists but I regard it superficial in storytelling and gameplay. But if B-games is the only thing on offer?! I am already beyond complaining for to many filler and such, I think the problems of making decent games "today" is far worse than nitpicking over litle things that completionists can't resist because of completionist complexes. So I enjoy parts of the game and I especially liked the second dlc "The Curse of the Pharaohs". I do play the whole game but once and that is it. That is the big difference, most Bioware games I put more then 1000 hours in, this game doesn't give me that itch nor does Far Cry 5 from that same publisher. One time affair and soon forgotten time filler games that leaves no worth while impression whatsoever. I thought they made some progress away from the "Ubisoft Map Icon Syndrome". There was far less clutter, and nearly all of it tied directly into the story. Particularly in the middle of the game were the side quests almost essential. A lot of the main story of the Faiyum regions was contained within the side quests. I think one almost has to play a completionist style to get the whole story in ACO, for better or worse. CotP was really good. It felt like a beautiful, polished mythological fantasy game. If we'd been sold that fantasy game instead of AC, I'd have enjoyed playing it for 60+ hours. I thought the various regions were beautiful.

I reinstalled Syndicate just to wander through the streets of London again. Ubisoft is second to none in their environment design. I still marvel at the moving barges when you cross the Thames. Also, good thing for cloud saving.

I finally started a NG+. Gonna play through slow and focus on the story mostly I think.
I would love to see Greece and I would love to keep Bayek as the main character. It seems I'm in the minority here, but I didn't care for Aya. *shrug*

Also, good thing for cloud saving. This is what keeps me playing these games. Paris was my favorite by far. Unity had too much map clutter. That time could've been spent adding more story content. Paris is stunning, though, and I like Unity's gameplay mechanics best of all AC games. I finally started a NG+. Gonna play through slow and focus on the story mostly I think. She's a good, well written character. I just find her somewhat unlikable. I would have no interest in playing with her as protagonist. I like Bayek, so I'd welcome his return. I'm equally willing to play as a new protagonist. I'm not picky, as long as the setting and characters are interesting.

Both she and Bayek were changed by tragedy, but she became super focused and ruthless. It was a mission for Bayek. It was seemingky an irrevocable shift for Aya. That's great, in terms of founding the Brotherhood. It's not so great for making a likable protagonist.

Part of it is that I really dislike being forced (in any game) to play a character in which I'm not already invested, in some fashion. For example, that's really the only reason I didn't enjoy Syndicate so much. I'd have really loved it if I had been allowed to stick with the character I preferred (Jacob, in my case). I do think Aya/Amunet is potentially worthy of the next game or at least DLC, but if she's the main protagonist, I'll likely skip that entry in the series. While I'm here, I also wanted to mention that I have nothing but admiration for Aya's voice actress. Wonderful performance, as always.

I liked Syndicate's characters, Templars and entertaining quests. The game was gutted, though, by the alterations to free-running (perfected in Unity) and the addition of that horrific zip line. That thing defied the laws of the universe, and completely obviated parkour. Horrible.

I didn't like how Aya treated Bayek or how she bailed on him. She came across as harsh and cold. I can do without that. Even though her VO did a great job, I just didn't connect with Aya at all, she rubbed me wrong the whole game.
I liked Syndicate, but even though I didn't like the new combat in Origins I think I liked it better. Crazy, eh?

So... I'm having a problem and don't know if it's a glitch or if that's how supposed to work. The Trial of Anubis isn't showing up to me. It disappeared after I did the Trial of Sobek and also did Sekhmet's. I already restarted the game and even went to the Trial's site, but isn't there.

If all three are live at the same time, it's definitely not supposed to disappear. Could you have lost your connection to the Ubisoft server? It also could've timed out for the week, but they usually ran through Monday morning. (I'm not sure if the cut-off is based upon local time or globally synchronized.)

Weird stuff. I've not logged on in quite a while. I last played while CotP was still new. There were issues with Trials awards dropping a few times. The good news is that the Trials run all the time, now, if I'm properly informed. Even if you miss it now, you can probably log in for a few minutes another day and get your reward.

I logged into both of my saves and only have the two Trials available for myself. Here is their May schedule: This Month in Assassin's Creed OriginsHope this helps

5) So, the messages from the ancient artifacts/monoliths are extra cryptic this time around, right? I assume, since they seem to talk to Layla more than Bayek and since Bayek doesn't even comment on their weirdness at all, that they were not really in ancient Egypt and that Bayek didn't really find them. So this is not part of Bayek's memories but rather they were somehow inserted into the animus simulation, how exactly remains unknown. They also hint at the fact that time is somewhat circular, that a variety of scenarios play out over and over again until they lead to one point at which there is only one single event possible - the end of the world. The ancients had the ability to see the future beyond this point by simulating it to the extent where they could make predictions with an insane amount of accuracy. From what I gather, Desmod's actions only delayed the end of the world, because time itself somehow demands it to happen. Why and how remains unknown at this point. So what about reality? Is it a simulation as well? How will Layla (or anyone else) be able to break out of it (as the recordings suggest we must to stop the end of humankind)? Questions abound... Anyway, it's onward to the DLCs now. Hey good pick up with this, Bayek's reaction or lack thereof stupefied me when playing and I know Element Zero and I talked about this previously. That Bayek didn't react because he wasn't seeing/hearing them rather Layla was, makes Bayek's lack of reaction understandable. Thanks. I figured it's a bit like with the glyphs in AC2, you know. At the point when you enter those tombs, Bayek really is just an avatar for Layla to control. I always thought that was somewhat weird about the Animous anyway. On the one hand, we are supposed to relive someone's memories, on the other hand, we do have some control over the avatar (AC1 clearly establishes that Desmond puppeteers Altair (they even call it that in the tutorial). Though I am not sure if this was really the author's intention here. I guess we may find out in a future AC. BTW, with all the talk about authors vs. observers that we need to find the ability to change things in the past instead of just experiencing them, whether it's going to be time travel or not, I get the destinct impression that Ubisoft is setting themselves up to have decisions ala BioWare (or again, Witcher) in one of their future ACs. Origins already has some very limited changes in NPC reactions, depending on your actions (I remember a side quest, where I had to either steal or destroy a boat for a guy and after I stole it, he thanked me for preserving his boat). Isn't that strange if we are just viewing memories as well? Maybe Layla already does something there? Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if we see something with decisions in the future. On the backtracking that cam up, yea, I learned very quickly that I had to do the quests first. usually I also do the exploration first in an area but here it really worked much better to start with at least the side quests. It gives a lot of context to the locations you visit. Just finished "The hidden Ones" yesterday. A bit of a pointless DLC IMO. The story wasn't bad exactly but it felt like just a further stretch-out of the gameplay. It's probably gfine if you played the main game at release and got the DLC a few months later but back to back with the main game, I didn't really feel like it provided anything exciting. Hope the Curse of the Pharao will have something more novel to offer. BUT: I also spent quite a bit of time in the museum mode and DAM, someone should give the devs a medal for this! It's amazing. I mean, I was a bit upset that we didn't get the usual database feature in AC:O but this is knocking it out of the park. The tours are interesting, entertaining and so full of information. Also, you get to just walk around parts of the world you don't really realize fully while playing the game and only in the museum mode did I realize how much love for detail the devs put into this game. You can actually watch so many little things that have been meticulously researched going on. How people are brewing beer, doing pottery or irrigating their fields, it's all there and has been done as accurately as possible. My favorite tidbit so far: Historical research shows that people in ancient Egypt suffered from rapid tooth degradation since they did not have fine enough sieves to properly separate all the Sand from the flour they used to bake bread. So the team put in some toothache animations, especially for the elderly NPCs to represent that fact. It's stuff like this that I can really appreciate and that IMO shows the dev's dedication to what they do and especially with a historical setting that takes as many liberties as AC does, something like this really should be in there somehow. If I had one gripe with this mode it's that we can't access the tours in the main game. I'd have liked to just find the tour markers in the world, stop my gameplay for a few minutes nd just do a tour here and there (like I used to stop the game to read the database articles in the past). It should be optional to show the tours but I would have liked to have them more mixed into the game. It's a shame that on Steam, less then 7% of game owners even ahve the achievement you get for doing your first tour, meaning that barely anyone even looked at the museum mode. If it had been in the main game, I am sure it would have seen more exposure.

I wouldn't exactly relish having my touristy oohs-and-ahhs interrupted by some random Phylake-wannabe. As for Steam numbers, I wouldn't worry much about that. There are probably tons of other people (like me) who didn't buy their game through Steam (mine's Uplay). Also, achievements aren't really an indication of whether or not people have looked at the Discovery Tour. When I first got it, I spent nearly three hours just wandering around. I didn't do any tours at all until a different session. So even if I had been on Steam, my experience would've led you to believe I wasn't interested in the tours.

Haven't played the hidden ones DLC yet, went to start playing it after finishing the game and it crashed. I took that as an omen not to play it and the feedback I have seen online has not made me rush into it. I will but I keep stalling as I really didn't like or get comfortable with combat in AC:O. I also haven't done museum mode either but I am looking forward to that and CoTP. I like your suggestion of not having to leave the game to do it as well.

If it had been in the main game, I am sure it would have seen more exposure. I'm glad they did make the tours separate from the main game. I wouldn't exactly relish having my touristy oohs-and-ahhs interrupted by some random Phylake-wannabe. Well, my suggestion would be that as soon as you start a tour, all NPCs become none hostile and the player can't enter combat either (basically just like it is in tour mode). But as I said, I'd also make it optional, so people can choose whether they want the tour markers in the main game or not. I get that some poeple might find them distracting if they just want to play the games. As for the achievements, I kinda disagree there. Even if the steam statistics don't cover other platforms, I doubt that there would be significantly different numbers there. And even if people use the discovery mode for walking around, it'd be a shame if they didn't even try at least a few of the tours. But anyway, all I want to say is that I hope the devs are not discouraged by these seemingly low numbers (and the devs will surely have more accurate statistics). I'd very much like to see a similar feature in future AC games.

Hi Tittus I just checked their May schedule and only Sekhmet (normal) and Sobek (hard) are supposed to be available this week. My guess is you had a bit of a glitch. I logged into both of my saves and only have the two Trials available for myself. Here is their May schedule: This Month in Assassin's Creed OriginsHope this helps Thanks. I didn't know that it was only two trials for the week. But for sure I saw the three missions yesterday. Sekhmet level 34, Anubis 43 and Sobek 44 What this about normal and hard? there's one item reward for each? The game difficulty, as chosen in the options menu, makes no difference. Their “Hard” is any of the gods scaled to a higher level than your character-level. If I logged in with my Level-55 Bayek, a hard foe would be level-58. If you doubt the rewards you’re receiving, this is what you can get: Flaming Anubis Set (Sword, Staff, Warrior Bow, Shield) Blue/Golden Anubis Set (same) Red/Blood Anubis Set (same) I’d have listed the items by name, but I’m playing MEA at the moment. My mind is occupied and memory distracted by what’s on the screen. When I was playing, you could only win one award per Trial/week.

Glad I (and others) could help out! Hope you're still enjoying the game.

I started the Discovery Tour this evening. It starts up outside the western gate of Alexandria, so I stuck with Alexandria as my first stop. The tours are cool. I've definitely already learned a thing or two. They even call out where they chose to deviate from historical accuracy in one location by adding girls to a crowd of school children. They felt inclusion trumped accuracy. I honestly never noticed any of the brats, but I appreciate them pointing out the liberties they took.
It's been okay so far, but this is likely a less interesting locale than others. I look forward to the "daily life" tours and the tours linked to the various pyramids and ruins. I knew a fair amount about this era and the locations that appear in the game before playing. I'll bet that most come away with a completely different, broader understanding of the setting if they take the time to do these tours.
The narrators vary from tour to tour, which is probably good. The same voice, even if it were great, would likely start to grate the nerves. There is a woman whose pronunciation drives me nuts. Brits are often bad for anglicizing everything in a very English manner. This lady sounds American, though, and not like an historian familiar with the subjects. I'd not be surprised if she is simply a member of the dev team who is also a generally capable reader. I hope her work is concentrated in Alexandria, but I'm prepared to hear a lot of her.
On the Trophy front, I lacked only the three added via Discovery Tour. The first is attained simply by starting the tours. For the second, I made sure I used a different character for each of the first 5 tours. (It starts with Aya (ugh), but allows you to change easily at any time. The skins and voice-overs are unique for each character, so that's pretty cool. The transition is instantaneous, too, meaning the character has already changed when you exit the menu.) The third, conveniently for me, is awarded for doing all of the Daily Life tours.

I loved the discovery mode. I spent a lot of time there. I used Bayek the whole time after getting the achievement for using 5 diff characters. I loves him too much!
