Finished the last DLC "Curse of the Pharaoh". I'll stick to the same conclusion as with the "The Hidden Ones": The DLCs are well made and the second one especially offers a lot of content (I needed about 20 hours to complete it) but they are somewhat pointless IMO. Neither of them offers anythin really new and exciting. Ok, the Duat areas in CotP at least have some cool new visuals so there is that but nothing relevant in the gameplay section Furthermore, the story of CotP is somewhat odd IMO. It doesn't really fit that well into the AC universe. So that one apple somehow manifests the shadows of the Pharaohs because that high priest willed it. But what about Bayek entering the Duat/having all those visions all the time, were those other Sinu artifacts (the doorways in the tombs) or something else? What's the point or significance of any of it? What happened to the apple in the end (that last scene with the thief after Bayek leaves, what was that about)? I mean, maybe I just didn't get it but the thing was pretty surreal. I like AC better when it's a bit more grounded. Anyway, the upshot is that the DLCs are not bad quality or anything like that but had I known how little they really add (not in terms of content but rather substance) tot he whole thing, I'd probably have bought the standard edition, rather than the gold edition. BTW, AC: O is my first "real" Steam game where I managed to get 100% of the achievements. Kinda proud of that. The only other one I have is "The Turing Test" but that only has about 10 Achievement which you basicallly get just by completing the game anyway. And Witcher 3, I bought on GoG, so there I have all the achievements on Galaxy. Not that I am a big stickler for that kinda thing but still, it's nice. Overall, AC: O entertained me really well for more than 120 hours and even though the DLCs did feel a bit like a chore in the end, it's a marvellous game overall that get extra kudos for the discovery mode. And even after all this time spent in the Universe, I fell like starting a new AC1 playthrough tonight, so that's gotta be a good sign as well.

I assumed as much from the beginning, and Bayek flat out states this to an NPC near the end. I think he says it to Isidora, but I can't recall for certain.
Someone comments on him, a living man, having visited the realms of the dead, and he smiles and says, "None of it was real," or something similar. I think this might be a big step toward his realizing that none of his long held beliefs are true. He has to stop believing in fantasies at some point, no?

I guess as a stand alone story it would have been fine (though even then, I wouldn't say it was anything particularly spectacular). My main gripe with it is that it doesn't quite feel right in the AC universe though and as a DLC for an AC game, I think it's not too much to ask that it should. Yea, I caught that dialogue about the visions. Still, it's not clear to me what they were about or why Bayek had them. I mean, you enter the Duat through these doorways. Are they supposed to be Sinu artifacts as well or is it all just an illusion? Those Duat visions don't really fit very well into other visions that Sinu artifacts have caused, which were either about something the Sinu themselves wanted to communicate or about someone wielding an artifact wanting to influence, dominate or distract the protagonist. but these Duat visions are weird in that they don't really seem to have much purpose to them and are just like some inner struggle of Bayek himself brought to the surface (as seen when you complete each region's side quest).
All in all, I found the whole thing rather weird and confusing and answers are far and few between.

All in all, I found the whole thing rather weird and confusing and answers are far and few between. I don’t try to connect them too strongly to AC lore, the Isu or anything else. It’s clear they just really wanted to do something with all of their ideas revolving around Egyptian Mythology. At least what they did was cool. I read an article on the AC homepage regarding art direction/concepts for ACO. I got the impression that they were much more taken with the mythology than with the “boring realities” of real life. He comments on how drably people dressed as if it were creative handcuffs. If they can add little girls to classrooms, they can add color and embellishments to outfits. He talks about how they kept telling him to rein in the mythological elements, and how he “managed to sneak some in anyway”. 😒 One of my only real complaints with the game is the abundance of non-historical, fantasy and non-Egyptian stuff they poured in after release. You don’t have to ride the fiery horse, wear the Han Dynasty armor, or use the anime looking weapons; but that’s where all of their creative energies were directed. Why couldn’t we get more Greek and Egyptian outfits? They need not be 100% historically faithful. Much of what we did get isn’t. I also have mixed feelings about the apparent reality that another AC game will release this year. Abandoning the annual release schedule was a good idea. Annual releases prevent innovation and proper response to fan concerns between games. If they do release an AC this fall, it will no doubt be a cookie-cutter copy of ACO. I like Origins, but I wouldn’t have minded some changes.

He talks about how they kept telling him to rein in the mythological elements, and how he “managed to sneak some in anyway”. 😒 I totally get that and there has to be some room for creative license in a game like that, that's for sure. Couldn't agree more. In a way, that's kind of the issue I have with CotP as well. Yes, the DLC on it's own is fine but I'd rather have them spend their energy on creating something more grounded. As for the outfits, yes, most of them look cool on their own but as someone who likes to role play even non-RPG games, I couldn't wear any of them for an extended period of time because it didn't make sense to me that everyone would just ignore those glowing bits on Bayek's Sinu armor or the fire around his wrists on the Anubis outfit. I actually mostly stuck to the common and rare outfits, rather than the legendary ones. Those are rather plentiful and beautiful I think, so I can't really complain too much about the whole affair. One thing I actually did was to use the more fantasy style legendary outfits during the Duat segments. I figured, if Bayyek is having visions anyway, he might as well have a dream-like appearence as well. Agreed! So, after finishing Origins I felt like starting another run of AC1 (I think it's been 6 years or so since I last played it. Going back from AC: O to AC1, I noticed a few things that I really like about the first game and where I wouldn't mind them going "back to the roots" as it were. For one thing, there is the climbing. In the newer AC games (and Origins in particular), the character can climb almost every surface in the game. I mean, Bayek can basically scramble up perfectly flat stone walls of temples and whatnot. In AC1, with Altair, you do have to look where you are going and quite often you have to climb around the towers to find ways up there or when trying to escape, you need to take care which wall to try and scramble up not to get stuck. Also, Altair's climbing animations are quite a bit slower and convey much more effort than e.g. Bayek's. IMO, this makes him feel a bit more realistic, more like a great parkour artist and less like a Spidermen type superhero. Wouldn't mind if they dial that back a bt in the future. On the story side, I didn't quite remeber how grey AC1 actually was. I mean, basically from AC2 onward, the Assassins are generally the good guys and the Templars are the bad guys (reinforced with sentences like "we work in the shadows to serve the light", I mean, how much more cliche can it get ). In AC1, the main point of the story is basically the Assassins and Templars are almost the same. Both factions want peace in all things, both do pretty horrible things to achieve it, both deceive their own people to some extent, the main difference is that the Assassins want to achieve peace by killing everyone who oppresses others and the Templar want to achieve it by forcing order on everyone but it's actually very much left open whether there is a definite right or wrong side. I think it would be interesting to revisit that concept in the future. On a side note, I had forgotten what a little prick Altair was in AC1, at least at the start of the game. He certainly grows way more as a chracter then Bayek or basically any of the AC protagonists since Ezio ever did. Anyway, having a blast with the old game right now. Will probably continue with AC2 after that. #assassinscreedfever

AnDromedary in regards to the DLCs I think THO felt kind of like a set up for the next game? I could just be projecting my hope on this one though I think CotP was treated as some kind of animus glitch or something? It was fantasy stuff. I agree about Altair. I've always felt like he/Ezio and Edward show the most growth over their games than the others. And I loves them all.

Finished AC1 yesterday night. Since we spoke of the possibility of time travel earlier, I didn't even remember that time travel was already hinted at in the first game. Check out this tidbit about the "Philadelphia Project" in Allan Rikken's email, you can read on the laptop in the conference room towards the end of the game: This of course refers to the infamous Philadelphia Experiment of 1943 and hints at a Piece of Eden that allows foer the manipulation of time.

Yep. Nolan North indicated that this was the planned story described to him before the writers changed in a nasty transition. If that's the renewed idea, Layla must become a lot more likeable before I'm eager to play her as a protagonist. Also, pleeeeeeaaase let Dee truly be dead. She had the most annoying voice, crappy VA and cringe-worthy dialogue I've ever heard in a game.

Yea, Layla isn't exactly big on the charm offensive. But then, Desmond wasn't exactly Mister Likable either (especially in AC1 he is a really weird guy).
I do agree though, they need to step it up on the present day story quite a bit. In terms of characters as well as plot.
Just started AC2 now btw and got as far as taking over Monteriggioni. Wow, that game is like the opposite of Origins when it comes to the pacing of the the start of the game. AC2 starts super slowly. In fact, I feel like it's only really starting now after quite a few hours of play. And I love it. I dare say that Ezio became such a great and beloved character because they took their sweet time in setting him up in this very beginning. A shame games don't take the time to do that anymore these days. The new "creed" seems to be to just throw the player into the middle of the action as soon as possible (or maybe even sooner). Hm.

As for Layla and Desmond. Desmond was a bit of jerk in the first game, but to be fair....he had been kidnapped, so I forgive him. And I grew to really like him.
As for Layla, I felt like she had nothing likable about her. Like...she stole that stuff to prove a point or something? That she is smarter than everyone else? I didn't really get what was going on with her.
I saw the other day that the comics are going to finish up the Juno story. I've not read any of the comics

I saw the other day that the comics are going to finish up the Juno story. I've not read any of the comics When I first heard about "Unity" and cooperation was implied between the two factions, I wondered if they'd unite in the modern time to oppose Juno. Obviously, it never happened. The modern story, while logical and kind of cool, was extremely uneventful in Unity. It's disappointing but unsurprising that they're resolving a years-long plot via comics. Ugh.

Totally agree she had the personality of a wet sock!!!! FYI love your GIF now I will be singing Monkees songs all day HAHA! I wondered if anyone would know who they were. I loved them as a kid, watched their show all the time.
I've not read any of the comics Yeah I used to watch the show all the time as well!!!!! I didn't mind Desmond but yeah Layla was just dreadful!!!! I didn't even know there were comics. Why do they have to do that shit and finish a major plot point in a game in another form of media, that's just shit Will see if I can find the comics online or in Sydney somewhere as that's my favourite part of the whole AC games. Thanks for making me aware of them.

I saw the other day that the comics are going to finish up the Juno story. I've not read any of the comics When I first heard about "Unity" and cooperation was implied between the two factions, I wondered if they'd uninte in the modern time to oppose Juno. Obviously, it never happened. The modern story, while logical and kind of cool, was extremely uneventful in Unity. It's disappointing but unsurprising that they're resolving a years-long plot via comics. Ugh. I know right, I also thought that Unity would do that. And yeah I am so pissed off if tis the case they are going to finish a major plot point in a form of media till now I didn't even know existed. :poop:

I'm pretty miffed about this. I've never read the comics and I'm not liking that if I want to see what actually happened with the storyline they started back in the original games, over 10 years ago, I'm going to have to read comics. Not happy. Wasn't happy with how they treated modern day in the game and I certainly didn't like their new modern day protagonist. *sigh*

I'll learn via wiki once they're finished.

Are you kidding me? How stupid is that? I don't like comics anyway but finishing THE AC storyline in such an obscure way is just an insult to all the long term fans and supporters of the series.
Anyway, thanks for shring that link. Once I've played through Unity and Syndicate, I'll read up on what the conclusion actually was.

That arc was what got me intrigued and interested in the games in the first place

Rumor: Assassin's Creed Odyssey, a Direct Sequel to Origins, Stars Bayek and Is Set in Ancient Greecewww.usgamer.net/articles/rumor-assassins-creed-odyssey-a-direct-sequel-to-origins-stars-bayek-and-is-set-in-ancient-greece?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitterTranslating the text from French website Jeuxvideo-live, the site claims the information comes from a leaker named Articblue, who's had reliable information in the past, as well as information obtained by the site's own editors. The site claims that Odyssey is a "sequel" to Assassin's Creed Origins set in ancient Greece, with Bayek reprising his role as the lead hero. This means Bayek joins Ezio as a recurring hero in the Assassin's Creed franchise. - Awesome (if true)! I just hope we'll also get to have more time with Aya/Amunet in this one.

Greece popping up again? Rumors about Greece as next setting were on the air a while back, interesting, may be true. I guess at this point anywhere on the planet would work for an AC, just never again go to the Americas, please...
I'll go and join the baby rage for, WHERE'S MY JAPAN, MAN?? That would be so cool, although hidden blades would be kinda dumb unless you play as a Geisha or something.
