Couldn't this thread be merged with the already existing AC thread since all AC games are discussed there? Who would have thought a year ago that Ubisoft and AC would be my RP savior? I'm excited to give this version of AC a try.

Male and female protagonists we can choose to play as Wow just watched a gameplay trailer, big step for AC Franchise not sure if I am keen for all the changes or not. I saw that when you choose an ability you can decide how to map it. In theory that sounds great but it could also end up being a nightmare. Well its inspired me to play The DLC for ACO at least, couple of other things I need to finish first though.

Playersexual allows the most access/ What is also does, however, is restrict (or at least make harder) storyline based or involving the difference of sexualities. When it comes to flirting, its easy to make NPCs playersexual. I'd almost say cheap. But not necessarily poor. The more narrative roleplaying the game is, the less I support playersexual. The less narrative roleplaying/more action-adventure the game is, the more I support playersexual. You want me to fall more in love with your characters, you don't make them playersexual. Sure the love may happen, but I appreciate the texture of Cullen being straight, or Dorian being gay. The DA2 playersexual has its good side, absolutely, but I also felt more that they were standins for my necessary romance option instead of characters to then decide to romance. Weeeeell, if I’m allowed to get tediously historical about it, ancient Greeks and premodern societies in general usually had no concept of “gay” or “straight,” that some guys like guys and some guys like girls and so on. Guy on guy sex is something you did, not something you were, and a guy saying “I’m into guys” wouldn’t have been more meaningful than one today saying that he’s into blondes, or petite women, or... you get the idea. My point is, a character telling you “no, sorry, I’m gay” would strike me as anachronistic in this time period. Thre’s a reason that (male) homosexuality was uniquely institutionalized in parts of Ancient Greece, even though there’s no reason why it should have been more commonplace than in any other time and place. That’s mostly cultural’ I’d say. That's not at all what I meant.

What twilight zone episode am I living in when an AC game might offer me more rpg enjoyment than the upcoming BioWare title? I’ve never even played an AC game but I am thinking about this one

That's not at all what I meant. I get that. My point is that while "playersexual" may feel odd to you, I would think the same of having characters that identify as gay or straight, even if those words aren't explicitly mentioned. What twilight zone episode am I living in when an AC game might offer me more rpg enjoyment than the upcoming BioWare title? I’ve never even played an AC game but I am thinking about this one People change. Apparently companies do too. For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure both are chasing what's popular. Destiny was a hit, apparently, so Bioware want to make a game like that. And I find it more than a bit suspicious that Ubisoft started working on this three years ago. Now, was there an action RPG released three years ago that was a big critical and financial hit that they might want to emulate? Maybe one with combat based around rolling around a lot rather than the AC staple of counterattacking? I wonder.

Did anyone watch both video of Alexios & Kassandra, Did their line (both from PC and from NPC) is different or exactly the same. From what I see, Alexios & Kassandra reaction/timing to say is a bit different but look like their line is the same.
So glad to can be gay by the way.

So, in my ignorance, these two protags are not the ones of Origins, right? Wasn't the rumor about being it a direct sequel to Origins with the same characters? I guess not then?

No, they're new protags in this one and set it 400 years before Origins. That said, Layla (from the modern era) is returning.

Cleopatra could still work if they ever do a Rome AC, the whole drama and the division of power.

Maybe one with combat based around rolling around a lot rather than the AC staple of counterattacking? I wonder. Not having a cultural identification with 'gay' or 'straight' doesn't stop one from exclusively having sexual attractions to one sex and/or gender and therefore having a different character on the basis of that. As in, there's a different story happening, or at least possible. Gay and straight are labels for that, but not the only words that can be written. When you brought up institutional homosexuality it disturbed me a little. An institutional homosexuality doesn't stop men from having exclusively heterosexual attractions. This goes back to what I was saying before: playersexual is for more immediate player desires, but it potentially creatively restricts what can be done with characters (at least with available developer resources; think the clumsiness of Anders between DAO and DA2). I do think that by game design though, there's always something 'playersexual' at play though, if only to have 'characters' in general to romance for a romance system haha. Cassandra, you may be happy alone, but Bioware will ensure you can love the (male) Inquisitor! Muahaha!

True but I am actually very excited about the Spartan/Greek setting they chose. While I would also have liked to see more of Amunet, it'll be cool to see their take on this very early time period. No complaints from my side.

I just finshed watching a couple of videos about the game. Very good. I like the spartan kick in combat. Saw some ship combat and then boarding another ship to deal with the enemy. In dialogue, there is a heart shape beside the dialogue for romance. Anyways. These are the videos I watched , if anyone is interested

Because this game got me excited, I bought and played Origins. The cutscenes and voice acting are still miles behind BioWare and CDPR games. The world is huge, but not very alive. Still excited for it.

Still excited for it. I still haven't because big but not much interesting content is the vibe I got out of the reviews, very positive as they were. Had to LOOK more than listen to the reviewers to determine just how different it was and it didn't seem THAT different in gameplay except for the melee combat.
I VERY much doubt Odyssey will be an RPG on the level of "real" successful RPG studios. Having a female option and romances is NOT everything. That's not even relevant imo. It's quest design and narrative I personally care about. And an open world that feels alive.
Once Origins hits 10 bucks, I will probably give it a whirl for a few hours just to soak up the beautiful visuals. But that's basically Assassin's Creed in a nutshell for me. Dazzling settings that grow old fast because the gameplay gets boring FAST.

I hear Ubi does not plan to go back to the regular 1 year cycle for AC. Very good! The year of pause did wonders for the series. I am ok with them milking the new and well working formula for one more game this year but I really wouldn't mind if they take regular breaks to take in feedback and give themselves enough time to react to it and to get those creative juices flowing. Also, it would give them enough time to make the assets for an Asia setting for 2020 or 2021.
