This was the biggest surprise of E3 for me. In fact Ubisoft might have had the best showing of the major publishers at E3 due to AC:Odyssey, Skull and Bones and the Division 2.
I am stoked that Ubi is going full on Bioware/CDPR with dialogue options and full on RPG elements. Since it is probably going to be another 2-3 years before Cyberpunk 2077 and Bioware is now dead/just doing Destiny, we need other developers to pick up the mantle.
I also like the setting. Regardless of what you think of AC/Ubi, the one thing they get right is realizing different time periods.

Long time no see xrayspex73! Ubi was my favorite show too. Odyssey is my most anticipated game now and I'd LOVE Skull and Bones if I can play solo

The game has always been and RPG, but yeah, I don't know how I feel about the decision options. I accepted long ago AC as a title in which I don't have to care nor worry for dialogue. Then again, this may be yet another step to change the formula a bit. Haven't they milked the shit out of AC, they wouldn't have to bother much about trying to change things to make the games feel "fresh" . We'll see where this leads, for now I say the world looks pretty nice. I dunno. What turned me off of the series was how the characters didn't feel like they were mine. My only job was to get Altair or Ezio from Point A to Point B, everything else is pre-set. If these games now start giving me options to define who the protagonist is...I could get into that.

Same here... Sort of. I did like the older games for what they were, but then, I never considered them RPG in any way. That worked for me in the past, but it eventually started to feel stale, so the slow trend toward a more RPG-like structure is a welcome change for me.

Yea, before Origins, I saw the AC series as action adventure games (which is perfectly fine by me). In fact, if anything, I am a bit skeptical about how they will explain the choices in the lore now. They already started to lay some groundwork in Origins, so that makes me more positive but it'll still be very interesting to see how you are supposed to be able to influence the outcome of a memory of someone else's actions, you are just reliving.

All AC games prior to Origins were sold/classified as action/adventure and I loved them as they were. But, I'm definitely willing to give Odyssey a shot if they can make the choices work and keep the story coherent

The present day hasn't mattered since AC3, Origins was no different (unless I missed something on how the Animus works now). They've had this Juno taking over the world thing for a long time since AC3. I like to think they'll explain why they're branching story paths in the Animus, but I dunno I'm hopeful. I'm excited for this don't get me wrong.

I always hated playing a fun historical adventure game just be be dragged out of it to play as some doof in a hoodie wandering around a warehouse. The current games have a new modern day protagonist, but it is far less intrusive in my opinion. I wouldn't mind if they ditched the animus entirely.

I just really didn't care about Desmond Miles or his story at all. Admittedly the scifi stuff in AC is not the part of the franchise I am most interested in.

The modern day stuff in the later games after AC3/4 definitely started going down hill.

Wow!Assassin’s Creed Odyssey gay, lesbian, straight, bisexual, asexual relationships are possible I jumped the gun in excitement it seems. The quote referring to that is: "So if you’re somebody who’s asexual, you don’t have to engage in something like this. It’s not forced. It’s very much your choice." So it seems that instead they meant that you don't have to participate in romances if you want to play as an asexual character.

I have never played an Assassin's Creed Game before or been interested in doing so. Only the rumors of romance and a female protaganist have gotten me to look this direction watching the Game play video by "Theradbrad" I have the following comments: not feeling very impressed. Maybe it's the thick accents, but I'm finding the dialogue stilted in it's delivery. I mean, the accents are so thick it makes it seem like English is difficult to them and makes me wonder why they don't just talk in their native language. I also dislike that a Combat/War Decision would lock you out of a Love Interest, which is implied by "theradbrad". Um, Can't I like the guy and still think his plan to rush a War Leader's house in his home territory is a bad idea? Especially when, as a player, I prefer stealth as an option by default? regardless of how hot the person selling me the Stealth idea is. In this case, I'd pick the female protag, then be locked out of a male love interest just because I prefer the stealth approach. Not that he was very hot or even Non-NPC bland looking. o-o They definitely spent more time on the female's looks than the male's. I do like the boat, I'm impressed with the boat. Looks like you can even have boat battles. Makes me think the player suggestions for moving camp being a Boat in DA4 could be in the cards now. It does look like they're trying to be as massive as The Witcher 3 with the question marks even. which...doesn't appeal to me, considering how I wondered when that game would ever end. Do like using the Bird to zoom out and help you get around. Don't super understand the battle mechanics, looks like there are magic buffs. Like the picking up and carrying bodies. I like HZD's hiding in grass, so I appreciate it here too. I do like things being set on fire , and not just from a specific source like a torch- a tent became aflame from her firey sword. Switching weapons and gear looks intuitive enough. Not a definite buy for me. Guess I'll keep it's pulse over time and see what it looks like after release.

Switching weapons and gear looks intuitive enough. Not a definite buy for me. Guess I'll keep it's pulse over time and see what it looks like after release. Hey phoray I didn't notice the language issue but having just played AC Origins a little while ago maybe I am just used to it. I am guessing that the when Kassandra makes the romance choice with regards to the combat scenario that it would be one of several interactions but not sure if that was maybe the ultimate one or not. Even if you chose the guys full frontal assault approach in previous games this didn't dictate how you go about that mission. AC games are built on stealth combat and 90% of my combat in 120hrs of game play in Origins was by stealth with a bow and my aim is usually to take out whole forts etc undetected. ACO (the last game) was huge like the Witcher 3 but not so many side quests and most side quests tied into helping people affected by the bad guys you were hunting or were direct links to the main quests. There was lots of use of boats to travel and do some looting missions plus some sea battles as well. AC4 Black Flag is based on being a pirate and is my favourite AC game, if you can pick it up cheap maybe give it a try first. I can't talk to the battle mechanics, I struggled with combat in ACO as it changed significantly. I am going to go back and play it again to practise and try and get better at the combat so its not such a rude shock for Odyssey. As to setting things on fire in Origins I died more times from setting things on fire and then myself on fire than in actual combat, the environment is very interactive and firing a fire arrow at some guy who falls into twenty jars of fire causes an inferno that engulfed me several times

After some time has passed, I'm actually digging the idea of there being choices in the next Assassin's Creed game. It's something I was mixed on when it was first revealed, but this could actually be healthy for the series. And I don't mind the romances at all. I've always wondered what Assassin's Creed would be like if it allowed choices in the game, ever since we saw Ezio being given the choice to drink a cup of coffee offered to him. I'm guessing that Ubisoft has thought of it before.

First they change the combat and now I have to think rather than just get carried along by the story!!!!!!! Then after watching some game play I thought the same as your self, hey this could be good actually controlling the protagonists choices and then seeing how it turns out. And the romance thing was the sealer.

Re the combat I think that the decision you make in that scene will not determine how you as protag will go about the mission it may just determine your ally for the fight.
