I am still on the first island Level 6 almost 7 5% completion and have almost completed everything there. Have you done the mission "Blood Fever"? That's the mission being discussed in the spoiler. I did the same thing you did then I am actually quite annoyed about it the more I think about it. So you attacked them as well before speaking? Why did they show as enemies when aimed at with the bow if you need to speak to them!!!!!!

SofaJockey can we set up a spoilers thread for Odyssey, its hard to have very interesting discussions talking vagaries of it? Sure, go ahead. Are people interested in a separate thread for Odyssey where it can be discussed without worrying about spoilers? Perhaps a "What did you do today in AC Odyssey?" or just an "AC Odyssey Spoilers Discussion" thread?

No, I talked to them first. I can't remember if they showed up as enemies or not.

I think it would be helpful to mention 'spoilers', I mean the game hasn't had its main launch yet... I'm avoiding spoilers on YT and Twitter, for example.

If people are keen will make sure to put "spoilers" in the title. I'd just do it - that way, people wanting to specifically discuss the game and get help with quests they're stuck on, know they can go in there and click on spoiler tags. And people who are talking about the game generally can stay in this thread and not risk being spoiled. "If you build it, they will come..."

In Odyssey, not every potential combatant is automatically a foe. Once you realize this and adjust, it's actually refreshing. The NPCs in question show up as combatants because they're potentially foes. Pretty much all non-peasants show up with a level icon above their heads. For example, I'm in an area with both Athenian and Spartan warriors, but can stroll freely through some military areas as a neutral party. Things were similar in Origins with the Ptolemaic guards, in Unity with the gendarme, etc... Not every armed individual need be attacked. I also like how quests are simply present in the world. You may or may not find a needy NPC before encountering and handling a situation. Thus feels far less artificial than in many games. (This was mentioned on the previous page, but I can't recall by whom.) A lot of the dialogue is extremely bare bones. I just "failed" a quest because someone asked me for money. No real explanation or elaboration was given. I'd wanted more info before simply handing over hard earned drachmae. The "Failed" message triggered when I declined to give money, and I thought, "Oh well. F-it." The romance dialogue is hilariously bad, as I expected. I kind of hope the current "target" is just kiting Alexios along to use him as a flunky. His terrible, thirsty come-ons are just that bad. He deserves a "Let's be friends" at the end of this quest chain. I just experienced my first crash (PS4 Pro). I'd completed a major quest and began walking away when the game slowed to a couple frames per second before entirely freezing. It stayed frozen for so long that I just closed the application. dazk, I'm not liking the seeming lack of physics in the combat. I'll get used to it, but it feels less visceral than it should. It's also ridiculously easy while also bring very HP-spongy. Block -> attack -> dodge -> attack ad nauseum versus higher leveled foes. It's super simplistic and drags on far too long. I have mixed feelings, many negative, about the Store. I hate microtransactions. These aren't as crappy as many publishers', but I still don't like them. The stuff in the Store isn't really the solution I'd want, anyway. One set looks great, but sucks. Another legendary set looks like an epic fantasy set. That's fine for high levels, but weird at lower levels. I like the designs of the armor in this game, but just hate the equipment treadmill. I'm still very much mixed in my opinions thus far. There's some okay, standard AC stuff here, but there's a lot that I don't like. I'm hoping that the surprises ahead outweigh the negatives as I advance.

Yeah, I saw something in my YouTube recommended feed that was a huge spoiler. It's pretty shitty for a game that hasn't even fully released, and boasts 100 hours of content. Dumbasses.

That's fine for high levels, but weird at lower levels. I like the designs of the armor in this game, but just hate the equipment treadmill. Yeah well I have now learnt that the hard way re "Blood Fever" just makes it hard to know whether to engage enemies from range or not because they my not actually be an enemy!!!! I had a bug yesterday when killing an alpha wolf. It literally ran inside a rock and wouldn't come out so I couldn't complete the quest. Cam back later and this time it rand straight down into the ground and disappeared, I came back much later and the damn thing finally spawned and I was able to lure it away from what seemed to be the problem area and kill it. See melee combat isn't really my thing and that's why I liked the old school AC Games because of the parry and auto-counter attack, so I like this combat better than Origins and Syndicate. I agree though it doesn't feel "physically" as realistic and it has a bit more of a DA2 feel to it. I am also playing the game on normal so not worrying to much about stats etc so that's less of an issue for me, maybe it will become more of an issue later on though. I have no qualms with using Uplay credits (which I did) to buy stuff from the store but I am not giving them any cash. I only get Uplay Credits from buying and playing Ubisoft games.

Just watched a spoiler free review - "A thin line that separates this from the Witcher 3...." I wish. I watched a similar review, but disagree mightily now that I'm experiencing it. I've advanced into what might be called "Chapter 3". Everything about this game is starting to annoy me. Even simple things like looting vases and climbing walls is far less intuitive and more clunky than in Origins. I'm aware that different teams develop each game, but it's ridiculous. It's the same IP. A bit of continuity would be great. I'm gonna going to see this thing through, but the early stages are pretty disappointing. I saw the handwriting on the wall, but chose to ignore it. I also knew that the Syndicate team developed this, yet ignored my reservations. (While the writing was solid, I regard Syndicate as by far the worst game in the series, mostly due to idiotic design choices. I'm experiencing similarly stupid choices in Odyssey.) The worst part was that I was distracted when preordering this game a few days ago. I thought I was buying the lightly padded version with some bonus missions and gear. (I hate MTs, and think more expensive release day prices are a more consumer friendly and ethical way to drive publisher profits.) It turns out I paid extra money just to play it early? WTF? Why does this version exist? It's my fault for not reading better. My houseguest annoyance/distraction strikes again.

Why does this version exist? It's my fault for not reading better. My houseguest annoyance/distraction strikes again. Sorry you are not enjoying the game Element Zero you sound very much like me playing Origins. The looting is terrible, the indicator dots are so small as to be ridiculous, why can't loot just glow so its easy to see and why have twenty containers with 3 Drachmae in each in one area when you could just have one with 60 or even 3 with 20 in it. Also the search pulse thing seems to ignore some things and I have issues with animals and humans being killed and the body just disappearing only to be there when I just happen to come by at a later time or the body is there but it has no loot indicator until later. That happened with the mercenary guy I fought yesterday. Killed him and he's just lying there with no loot indicator and I assumed I had auto been given the loot. I head off then change my mind and decide to go clear a marker in the other direction and walk past the corpse that now has a loot indicator and is lootable.!!!!!

I think it's more "ride around in a huge world on Roach Phobos, talky-talky, make some choices and stab some stuff". The problem I'm finding is that, love it or hate it, TW3 was consistent and more intuitive. It was both grim and dark, but it had a richness to it. It set a tone and achieved its goal. Odyssey feels far more hollow. So far, Odyssey feels like Ubi-bloat to the max plus janky-ass redesigns of established, successful design features. AC teams are notorious for redesigning good mechanics while keeping the trash. I'm not running into too much trash, but they definitely needlessly redesigned a lot of solid mechanics. I really hope I grow to like it.

By being like the Witcher 3 arethey talking gameplay, story, grim dark choices or the occasional game breaking bug? At the time the reviewer was talking about the "RPGness" of Odyssey. Inventory, crafting, dialogue, choice and consequence etc. He went on to say that the differences that exist inside that thin line are around - on the negative - narrative and story, and on the positive; game world and system "design" (which I guess covers a multitude of things). His overall assessment was that after 45 hours of play, he felt like he'd played 20 hours too many, but that the first 25 hours were fantastic.

So I think I've played quite a bit of AC Odyssey (btw, I probably won't post in any spoiler thread. I prefer to stick to just this one. I'll spoiler stuff though) and I've completed the first 3 chapters/episodes or whatever. I felt like combat was a lot like Origins, but it felt like using a bow and arrow had become MUCH weaker than it was in Origins, which annoyed me to no end (since everyone here regularly knows that was my preferred choices in Origins). But as I've leveled up (16 now) it's gotten better. I've gone with a mostly hunter/ assassin build with a smidge of warrior. I like it, mostly. I LOVE Alexios. In fact, I think I might be ruined and not be able to play as Kassandra, but I will def try. I'm playing him snarky, but he's a good guy with a good heart. Loyal and trusting and trying to do the right things. We'll see if he's made good choices at the end I think. Dialogue choices are minimal, but I expected that. I haven't actually tried any romance yet, though I think I've only met 2 I could so far? I was trying to do everything, but decided I can't be bothered and remembered that doing that in Origins made me forget about the story when I would go back to it, so I do a few side things and then back to main story and I like that better. I can do all the side stuff later, right? I did notice that some quests disappear, I 'm guessing because I progress too far for the part they are involved with or something? I didn't like that too much. So after this long winded rambling, I mostly like it. Some interesting things have happened and I'm curious to see what happens. I have been teary eyed a few times. I'm staying off youtube and watching no vids now. I don't want to see youtubers raining on my parade by saying they don't like it, or building it up more than it needs. I just want to enjoy it for myself. I do have one BIG gripe though. It does not run as smoothly as Origins and no matter what adjustments I make it doesn't look as good as Origins does. It looks like it has jagged edges or something? Anyone have suggestions? I'll post a pic in spoilers. GO ALEXIOS!
