I also thought Hero strike is stealth only. Then thought more and figured it's a combat one, tested it and was my bread and butter with Sin build Kass. The CD was too long but with the 25% less cooldown engraving it rocks.
I did use Vanish at first, but removed it because it turns out it's pretty limited for me. It doesn't work on enemies not close to you and you get the same effect just jumping from the nearest cliff and then sneaking back.
Btw, pro tip - you can shoot an arrow up close at unalerted enemy and then you still have the opportunity to use your sneak attack. Sort of double damage exploit.
Shadow of Nyx - I love it, but it's definitely not essential. First tier is useless, second Tier is enough for any situation, third Tier is gravy and only if you plan to heavily use the skill. I often forget I got this ability and recall it mostly when there are a lot of guards between me and the target.
Rush Assassination - simply awesome. Especially when you finish a cutscene and a fight starts. If you are quick you can activate it and get rid of a few enemies right off the bat. Used it after the Brasidas intro and got 3 out of the 4 mooks. Left one for Br(o)sidas. Btw, best cutscene in the game. And Alexios seems better fit in it than Kass. It's how I always imagine two Spartans exiting a warehouse 😂

Pk, one more question, where I think I might just be too blind or stupid to do it: Can I somehow get rig of all the icons? I know I can deactivate them on the map but that doesn't seem to deactivate them on the compass (which is where they really mess up the game IMO).
I think the excessive icons are the biggest mistake in the design of this game. I mean, they built this beautiful world, that I'd love to explore visually but those icons keep trapping me in the lawnmower loop. I really really want to get rid of them for good. I was so looking forward to them implementing the exploration mode because I thought that would be a mode without icons. Instead, it turns out it just disable quest-icons at long distances, useless.
I just hate Bethesda for bringing this messed up idea of compass icons into the gaming mainstream. It completely prevents you from really discovering stuff. What's the point of exploration when you actually don't even have a chance of missing something? Stupid!
So, is there a hidden option somewhere to turn off icons on the compass, that I missed (sometimes I do tend to miss obvious stuff). If not, I might actually start a petition on the Ubisoft forums to patch this option in.

Sadly, AnDromedary, I think you’re stuck with the icons. With those things plastered everywhere, Exploration isn’t much different from Guided gameplay. Exploration also still drops yellow guide markers on 90% of the smaller quests. Not having a marker is the exception. Sigh. I do like being able to see the ? on the pause map. I’d hate to miss anything. 😆 I’d prefer to use those only when necessary, though. I think Exploration was a cool idea that they held back in implementing.

I’d hate to miss anything. 😆 I’d prefer to use those only when necessary, though. I think Exploration was a cool idea that they held back in implementing. Yes, making them optional, that would be the idea. Personally, I think the chance to "miss out" on things is an essential part of exploration though. It is what really drives exploration for me and it is what distinguishes it from lawn mowing a map and what actually makes things interesting.
Example: Way back when, in Gothic 1, the world was so small but it didn't have markers for every PoI. Even in that small world, you could still find things, even on your 3rd or 4th playthrough. I remember finding a dude in a really hard-to-reach cave, who had some funny dialogue lines on my 4th playthrough or so. It was nothing special in the game but it was awesome because I had this idea on how climb a cliff side and it turns out the devs put something little to discover there.
Since in AC: OD, it is pretty much inconsequential for the overall game which locations you might find and which you might not, it would be great to be able to miss some (withtout it being on purpose) on the first playthrough. Those underwater temples for example, it would be way more awesome to stumble across one because you see just a little column top sticking out of the water while sailing by or something.
Oh and this reminds me, there is something else, I am missing in Odyssey, which was already there in Origins: little flavor texts that we can discover. Remember how in Origin, we'd find letters or prayer inscriptions or stuff like that in many locations, just little text boxes? Well, IMO, these little texts gave the locations a whole lot of background and believability. I liked that in a temple full of krokodiles I might find a text with a prayer text from someone, who say they lured the crocodiles there to honor Sobek or something. Or at an abandoned farmhouse foll of bandids, I might find a letter from the previous owners brother, who asks for help, which explains why the owner left. It just made the locations feel much more grounded in the world. It's a shame they didn't include these in Odyssey anymore. Together with proper exploration, it would have been awesome. We could have shared the stories we found here on the boards, too. I think it would have been great fun.
Don't get me wrong, I think Odyssey is a great game as it is, it always just really irks me when I see wasted potential like this, especially when it could have been so much better (IMO of course) with very little extra effort. In fact, little things like this in otherwise great games always stress me out way more than stuff that is just bad outright (which is also a reason why I bitch about Mass Effect so much ).

So weird day of play for me yesterday. I started by doing lots of fast travelling to various Blacksmiths to gather materials but in particular Obsidian Glass and Soft Leather. I seriously hate having to kill so many animals, its kind of immersion breaking to be wandering and just shooting every poor creature I come across and to be constantly zigging and zagging to harvest trees and look for Iron. I'd rather that was optional an that they'd stock the Blacksmiths with every resource and bigger quantities so I could just buy the stuff and enjoy the roaming in a scenic manner not looking for trees and rocks. Anyway I digress. In my travelling I discovered a whole section of Argolis I had missed so cleared that then nudged a little into Korinth. Found a few more places where'd I'd missed stuff and cleaned that up then back to the island I had been on but unable to finish as a Level 49 Merc. was camped next to the final "?" So cleared that and noticed a low level Merc. on the map and thought I'd take him out. He was just standing near a building and his info. said he was weak against assassinations so crept in close and dropped down to assassinate him...……….. Then I ran called Phobos and got the hell out of Dallas!!!!!! When I hit the merc. he split into 3 merc's he was Level 32 but the others were both Red Skulls one of whom was level 49. Seriously how does that shit happen???? I know we have all experienced it with a group of normal soldiers but 3 merc's in a merged state that was completely undiscernible from a mere couple of metres away in game. Anyway got on the boat and split lots of other boats in half and felt much better after that. Headed to the island next to Mykonos and stumbled straight onto a cultist which reminded me I really should progress the story but I have just been having far too much fun roaming around doing stuff and levelling up and getting gear. Killed an Alpha Bear in "Lost Animal Den" or something. I assume that's going to come back and bite me later on. So going to clear this island and Mykonos and then to Athens. I rearranged my melee bars but am still not happy, I always end up in a fight where I want something that's on the other bar and changing bars usually means taking a hit or two. Saw talk about Shadow of Nyx are people in the positive about it or not? also maybe I am using it wrong but Ring of Chaos Level 2 is a bit meh, does it significantly improve at Level 3? Couple of pic's from yesterday.

dazk, at level 3, ring of chaos rocketed everyone around into the air. I'm mostly for ghost arrow if there're too many gathered around. Some of the forts have underground caves beneath so it's a when I looked up, see the soldiers and shoot the ghost arrows at them. It sent them into utter confusion.

Thanks I'll keep Ring of Chaos till I get another 9 cultist tokens!!!! Maybe will prioritise that after going to Athens. Yeah arrows of Artemis are great, have been using them a lot lately but I do sometimes forget I have them!!!! Also using Multi-shot a lot lately makes those small camps easier if there is a good vantage point.

Lol at the multiplicative mercs and guards. In my experience, I’ve found the dude in question always looks a bit iffy. I can see that he’s trying to have some physics defying experience. There is a farm on Chios in which I had this experience during both PTs. The second time I was ready and used ranged Overpower. One dude exploded into about 8 or 9 burning foes. Ring of Chaos is laughable at 2, meh at 3 and 4, and OMG!WTHJUSTHAPPENED at 5. It’s a very uneven arc to greatness. Shadow of Nyx is cool the 2 or 3 times I ever find to use it. I don’t think I’ll spec it anymore. It just goes unused. I could use those points in a second elemental passive or something. Maybe I’ll use it more with a Hunter. Would firing Multishot out of SoN result in half a dozen crits? Maybe saandrig has tried it? I just disembarked in Elis. I’m visiting ahead of the story. I probably wrapped up all of the islands and the Isu plot too quickly. Now I just have Elis, Arkadia, Messina and Lakonia left. Arkadia and Elis are beautiful; Messenia is an ugly mess; and I don’t really like Sparta or Spartans, so Lakonia is meh. The story segments in these areas are fun, but I’m not a huge fan of the exploration. The newly released content is in Elis, so that should be interesting. I might load up Alexios and finish it first with him. It sounds tangential to the main game, but I could be wrong.

Element Zero I did have the underwater location that you mentioned, so I'm still on the hunt. Thanks though So, since the patch I've encountered a few bugs and I'm wondering if others have as well. I'll spoil them since they are quests some may not have happened upon yet. For Caged and Enraged it auto failed as soon as I arrived at the location before even getting close enough to get in. I'm thinking maybe because I had been there earlier? *sigh*
Clothes Make the Daughter I had already pre-looted the required items while exploring and before picking up the quest. Upon taking the quest it said to go to the village so I did, I got the complete on my screen and the check mark over the turn in. When I return to her she asks if I found the items and Alexios says ......No. *sigh*
I found one of those markers that has the arrows going 2 diff ways? I talked to the spartan soldier and he called me a traitor, said I killed Stentor. ....I didn't. *sigh* I have 74 orichalcum but I still haven't gotten the window shopping club reward to pop. *sigh* Why you break my game UbiSoft?! I'm almost afraid to find out what other things have been changed in my finished storylines now.

I actually thought about this when RDR2 released. I always struggle with mounts in HZD when I first start it. Too many hours of AC in me. I checked to see if any translations of the Greek sea shanties existed, but nothing yet. Thinking of sea shanties, though, always brings me back to one of the greatest songs in any video game. This is my favorite of a stellar lineup in Black Flag:

dazk , just saying the titles gets them going in my head. I love those shanties. Rogue had a few good additions, too. I’d been disappointed that Odyssey doesn’t have more. Then I read how they researched Ancient Greek songs of likely subject matter, worked with historians and wrote these new songs themselves. The singers were so good that they told them to “muddy it up a bit”. There are historical commentaries on the beautiful singing from the ships at the Battle of Samos, so they even had precedent for these polished singers.

Kudos to them. It makes the game atmosphere more authentic. Sometimes I'll stop running around to watch the scripted behaviour of the populace. One woman would be working on a piece of leather / cloth at her house, scrapping it. By night, she's done and went off to sit by the hearth. Most of the NPCs are scripted this way; tanning leather, etc and stopping for the night. I'm tempted to follow some of them at night and see what they do. Sometimes I'll see men playing hockey along the streets though I know it's not called hockey. It's a far cry from the old games where NPCs are fixed to one point and do nothing else or when the streets are empty except for one or two pedestrians that do nothing but moved back and forth. No kids, no singing, no men quareling and fighting, no moving horses, donkeys, pigs, dogs, etc. I wish I knew what the NPCs are saying when they're gathered in groups. Btw, Poseidon's Trident is great for underwater exploration; stat - underwater breathing. It's in a legendary chest on a small island in the east, south of Chios. Only have to deal with alpha lion in the ruins.

dazk , at least the game has great assassin gear built into it. The Pilgrim and Pirate sets are cool and effective. The assassin-oriented Epics were abundant and of every style. It was easy to build a good looking, well matched Epic Assassin set. Hunter has only the Artemis set, which is meh in appearance (IMO), but very good mechanically. Epics are better, of course, but it seems very difficult to build a coherent set in cosmetic terms. I’d say this is just my RNG experience, but it’s a very widely made complaint. Hunters need some help, and I’d love to not pay real money for said help. I have had insane luck in the Oikos, so I might be willing to buy an item here or there. I don’t mind rewarding fair play on their part. $15 for a pack is offensively expensive to me. I’d happily pay $5 for something I liked. There are strong, in-game hints that equipment transmogrification might be arriving in the near future. This means we can make each piece look however we wish while leaving the stats unchanged. The feature is already embedded, hidden on the equipment screen, but isn’t yet functional. This feature, continuing bug-squashing and NG+ will make this game even better. Add in the story DLCs and I forese myself playing the mess out of this game. Obsidian Gryphon , I do the same thing with this series. The truly impressive background AI started in Unity. (Not surprising, given the tech.) I’d follow and observe these life cycles. It’s incredible how much craftsmanship and love they pour into these small details that only 1 in 1000 players will ever notice. Same for the exquisite details in the world and environments. I tracked down an Ostraka solution today in the Piraeus Port of Athens. I found it in a plate of fish in a government office. Just locating this unmarked office led me through some amazing markets and experiences. No one does open world like Ubi’s AC teams. I didn’t overdo it today. I played through the content of Lakonia and set the stage to venture north to Messenia and Elis. I’m hoping a patch will fix Elis this week so I can continue my PT. If need be, I’ve left Ostraka puzzles unsolved in order to provide myself alternatives. Tomorrow I’ll maybe handle Messenia, getting arguably the best bow in the game from within a really cool location. Then, I’ll maybe meet Testikles himself in the flesh! 😆 The man. The myth. The legend. I’ll link #JorRaptor’s video regarding upcoming AC stuff, including the origin of the possible transmogrification feature.

Element Zero , everyone, let's make a list of what they do. * men / women dancing in the street * small groups talking (gossiping?), drinking from bowls of wine as they talk * men playing hockey * woman scrapping leather * woman scooping beans from a bag, used a roller to crush them and make it into a dough, rolled it and put into a bag * boy playing with a wooden horse * people praying at temples, etc * street performance I just did a quest for a woman who's trying to prevent her husband from dying from wolves. The quest slated that the man die so I went back to the woman and told her the outcome. While exploring, I came upon the woman's house again and saw her kneeling at the porch, crying. I went into the house and found a boy (presumably the son) upstairs, weeping. Did the quest of the doc at the vineyard. I stayed to see what she would do. She examined his face, hands, arms. Then she took a sponge and wiped his chest before handing him a bowl and helped him to drink.

I saw a dude in Athens playing "music" (well, it was basically just one tone) on what looked like a giant sea shell. The behavior is really cool. Did anyone go through the "daily life" stuff in Origin? You really get a feel for how much effort they put into the little details in the AC games there. For example, you can follow a pot maker, doing everything from getting the clay, sculpting the pot, put it in the oven and painting it. Or e.g. because they didn't have great flower sieves, Egyptian bread in those days was full of gravel, which lead to tooth degradation. So they put in a bunch of toothache animations for the NPCs to represent that. Super cool. AFAIK, they were planning to have a museum mode for Odyssey as well, right? Really looking forward to that.

AnDromedary , I’m pretty sure there is such a mode upcoming. I miss Sean’s historical entries in the animus menu, but do really like the tour mode. I think Origins was just a bit more polished in terms of background NPCs (and in most ways), but Odyssey is impressive. Origins had great theatre productions. Odyssey has theatres, but I’ve only seen subdued, huddling actors; no performances yet. I saw two woman, or rather heard them initially, laughing loudly in Chios’ theatre. Since it was midnight or later, and they were alone, I decided they must be high. Obsidian Gryphon , I love these reactions to our actions. I’ve witnessed mercs mourning their animal companions, and animals mourning their humans. Bears are pretty adorable, like big teddy bears, when they’re sitting on their butts all cute and not attacking. I feel a twinge of guilt shooting them. I’ve found that most caged animals will flee if their path is unobstructed. I free them and head in one direction while they sprint in the other. Lynxes are a-holes and always force me to kill them. As in Origins, predators will sometimes eat fallen foes. Vultures and crows quickly descend upon the dead I leave in my wake.
