Quick question for you AC aficionados: How are the Syndicate DLCs? I am trying to decide whether I should get just the main game or the gold edition (which is double the price!!!). Are those DLCs really worth 15 bucks? I won't fully recommend the game without the DLCs to be honest. They made the experience much more diverse and fun. First time the AC games got decent side quests too.
I didn't pay so much cash for anything but Ultra!!! PC Master race, yo! Truth be told I do get about 10-20 more FPS if I go from Ultra to Very High. However with a G-sync monitor there is no noticeable difference between 70 and 90 FPS but I do see the difference between Very High and Ultra. So it's Ultra for me, thanks.

This is a pretty good vid on visual settings for games. The inclination to go ultra is high especially when you have the rig for it but going for high / very high settings, I found, is good enough. Thanks Obsidian Gryphon that was an interesting video. I liked that they used Crysis 3 as an example, I liked all the Crysis games.

Finally getting around to playing AC Odyssey, made it to level 12 on Phokis. I can definitely see the whole "choices matter" Ubisoft was going for. Saved a family from a priest that was burning down a village, later found out the entire island of Kephallonia was ravaged by a sickness. Damn!
Oh and I recently got trampled by a level 12 legendary boar. Maybe my power distribution is wrong? Or I tried hunting it with a sword?

The animals if they are a higher level than you are nasty (be careful the areas next to Phokis are much higher levels) and I mean it when I say watch out for the Roosters!!!!!

Here's an interesting vid on Greek weaponry, shields and armour. And yeah, catch the tiny snippets of AC Odyssey. On the whole, very informative. I like his vids. It's all about historical armour, swords, shields and castles., etc, etc.

Right now he's running around in his mostly cloth mercenary rags because he looked hot running around in heavy armor. Not quite as simple as the soldiers with tiny skirts and no shirt though. Surprises me sometimes when the captain will be one of those minimally dressed guys while one of his underling has one the full fancy duds, with the helmet with the colorful looking rooster sticky uppy things.

I have to admit, one thing I'm not really getting with Assassin's Creed Odyssey at least compared to previous games like my current favorite Origins is that so far, I haven't really truly felt a sense of experiencing history in Greece. Granted I haven't reached the big cities like Athens yet, but somehow I feel like the setting of ancient Greece, despite how gorgeous it looks, doesn't seem to have much diversity or culture compared to the land of Egypt in Origins. Even before actually playing and learning with the Discovery Mode, I remember how just wandering to different cities and environments felt so different and the way people acted in these regions sold on the idea of how diverse Egypt was back in this era. I mean, it felt fascinating to compare walking down Alexandria compared to an Egyptian temple built for a god, or a small farming community by the river.
In Odyssey, it feels like every area is kind of the same. Maybe it's because I have more familiarity with Ancient Egyptian history compared to Ancient Greek history, but I felt that every island and town kind of felt like the same place. Again though, I haven't progressed that far in the game so that could be me.

The rooster thingy is made of horsehair. Horsehair plumes. The purpose behind it is to make the person more impressive and taller / intimidating. When Shai started talking about how bad it is for a single hoplite in a fight, I recalled how often I ran into such fights featuring one hoplite versus one / two to three oppositions in AC Odyssey. It's very funny because the hoplite uses the spear as though it's a sword, always swinging in one direction. I didn't see any going for a thrust nor did the opposition actually tried to disarm the hoplite. The devs didn't bother to figure out this type of fight and simply went for the standard sword fight animation. It would be great if they made it more realistic.

I stand around and watch some of those fights and pick up the pieces later and noticed the lousy spear fighting. Also sometimes the soldiers will stand there and take turns hitting each other until one finally runs out of health.

This has nothing to do with Greek history as far as I know but there is one area that is mostly populated with huntresses and they are slaying the soldiers right and left. Between the huntresses and the crazy generic cult people, I hide all the time. This area feels different from others although the rest feel very much the same.

Maybe I am not exactly sure what you mean but each area has certainly had a different feel in terms of story...well OK maybe that is a bit TOO dramatic because I haven't pegged down the story of each area yet...especially since I too am not that far in the game yet. But Pephke has a very different story feel then does Albantis, or Kepholonia, for instance.

I actually found the opposite but maybe that's because I had not studied any Egyptian history and had read a lot of Greek and Roman Mythology. I definitely think most of the regions are similar in Odysseybut most do have quite different topography. They also have quite different religious beliefs in terms of what god they worship which is reflected in the statues and temples but not to the same effect as in Origins. I agree the religious artifacts/statues and temples etc were more diverse in Origins however I found the geography monotonous which is obviously realistic but not so great to continuously wander through.

I do think like you suggested that I was probably more familiar with Ancient Egyptian history than Ancient Greek history, and I think from an aesthetic viewpoint, I’m more into desert landscapes (more freezing tundra than hot desert, but they’re relatively similar). It might also be because there are already so many movies set in Ancient Greece and Rome that it kind of felt generic, whereas Ancient Egypt hasn’t really been featured in a lot of big media save for some fairly outdated portrayals of Pharos, Pyramuds, and mummy monsters.

I have seriously missed so much. Holidays make me a bit more scarce. But I always have time for AC I am still playing Alexios but I finally started a Kassandra. She's level 20, not too far into the main story lines yet. I don't understand why my pics always look so crap when in game looks so beautiful, but have some pics of both! Alexios about to assault the poor unsuspecting souls below: Kassandra contemplating lifes mysteries:

I haven't finished the latest PT. Kass is at 63 so I'll probabably continue for Christmas. A new PT definitely means I'll wait for NG+. I'm curious if all ability points will be brought forward or will mastery be excluded. Considering it takes so many points to achieve a 20/20, mastery should be included.

Any other time it looks pretty good. Not as good as Origins, but still beautiful.
I'm still trying to get Alexios to 70. He's only 55. It's taking forever because I had finished the entire game before they raised the level cap and it's really kind of irritating to me. I would have preferred they made NG+ instead like Origins did and don't really understand why they didn't.

Oh I agree the photo mode shots aren't even as good as my FRAPS shots. I frame it with Photo Mode sometimes then remove the gridlines and take a screenshot with FRAPS or I just use FRAPS and yeah the quality is better. You could buy the XP booster to help get him to 70 faster. NG+ has been confirmed I believe but there is no announcement of when. I really don't want to start from scratch again, one reason being the grind early on but also cause I will become obsessed again and have just invested almost 220hrs in on PT. I was also hoping to play some MEA as well but if I commit to another PT that will go out the window.

How do you remove the gridlines? Before the patches, the grid will disappear if the player doesn't fiddle with keys or mouse. But now it stays there forever which is very annoying because I want to use bandicam for image capture. I can't seem to find a way to turn it off. And ... Merry Christmas all.

Its the scroll button on the mouse that removes them for me, says it somewhere on the screen when you hit F3, bottom right maybe? Merry Christmas to you too fine sir.

I don't wanna buy a boost *has tantrum.* But I may have to because just rolling around killing forts that I've already done and getting a few bounty board things every now and then aren't cutting it I spent so much time not actually moving the story forward when I was meaning to do so, that Alexios is at level 63 now and the game is only 70% completed.

I started playing the game when it released on Oct. 2 so by the time they raised the level cap on Nov. 13 I had already gotten to level 50 and finished all 3 story lines, side quests and exploration spots. So I had nothing left to help me level except grinding forts, bounty board and ship battles. And that gets boring to me after doing a couple so it's dragging along for me. Still level 55, lol. I imagine my Kassandra will get higher before she is done though.
I'm going to be salty about this for a long time!
