Hey boys and gals.
Good to have e new forum working. Question do we know if the new ME:A will try to keep the character over new games? like in the older mass effects? or are we to expect something more akin to Dragon Age, each time a new Hero?

Just depends on how the narrative they have planned for Andromeda.
Has it been stated that Andromeda will be a series of games or will it just be a one off side story then back to the Milky Way? (They have said that this is not Mass Effect 4).
Sorry for the non answer but these are things that would be great to know se we can craft one.

I hope it will be the same character if they do a new trilogy, like what they did with Shepard. Having the same character is wonderful for the player's immersion in the story.
Now wait and see, we still don't know if it will be just 1 game or a new trilogy.

I sure hope we get the same toon for a couple of games too.
Even though the Dragon Age games are fun, i really like getting attached to my characters

Agreed with Scarlett. For me, having one protag over several games was what ultimately drew me a lot more towards ME than DA. There was a real bond there I think we all know it was tough for the devs to do this trilogy, and to work with all the variables, but they still did a great job and created my favourite videogame experience with this. So I kind of hope that MEA will be the start of a new trilogy. If it will be a standalone game I hope we have plenty of choices to influence the story and character fates big time! Time will tell, but I'm excited.

Can't deny the fun of going through the series with the same protagonist and building relations with the team over the course of the games.
Just have to wait to see what they have planned for after Andromeda.

Prefer continuous story. I think it makes it easier to create a believable world when your characters are able to grow as individuals while the story progresses.
As said above the immersion is there because of the familiarity with the world, through characters you already know and get to know better.
That does create certain issues if outcomes are based around the character but they aren't entirely unavoidable.
The Genophage story shows what happens when its done well. Do it badly you get the Catalyst.

Definitely want this to be another series with one character. Making new characters every game is alright for Dragon Age but I don't feel as deep a connection with my character or the other characters in the world nearly as much as I did in Mass Effect. I want the thrill of seeing familiar faces each new game and having them recognise me too

I'm fine either way, I like both DA's approach and ME's approach, I might prefer the latter only because we already have DA with the first type. I don't think they've been clear so far and what they intend to do, and I think they might not be clear, and wait until MEA is released and hai successful it is.

Would love another trilogy with the same character(s). I prefer this to DA's approach. But we'll see what MEA brings.

Well, one thing I don't want is for somebody else to be running around all the time, "You remember when Ryder did ________?" That'll get old, and be reminiscent of the DA franchise too much.
I think that BioWare knows this, but who knows.

I hope they stick with the one character thing. I like seeing my characters growth through the series, and the progression of their relationships with the crew & other npcs.

Both have their ups and downs.
On the one hand, the DA approach gives more freedom with the setting (almost 15 years have passed between DA:O and DAI: Trespasser) and makes it possible to choose to play people from different backgrounds (for example: anti-mage Warden followed by pro-mage mage Hawke), plus I have to say I hate it when sequels strip away PC's progress to balance early gameplay (although props to ME2, the in-game reason for lost progress is actually pretty good one)... but I also hate it that in ME3, if I want to play with the character and background that I want, I am forced to play in Easy More even on Insanity because I automatically start with level 25-30 Shep.
On the other hand, building a PC character in layers during the course of multiple games is amazing, and IMO makes it possible to create more detailed and intimate stories. In general I feel like my Shepards are more defined because they've had 3 games to sort this shit out, whereas each DA protagonist always has to go through some growing pains at some points, even if they're different than those their predecessors had to go through - and this carries over to companions and recurring NPC's as well: for example, I think Varric's "character development" from DA2 to DAI is just confusing and there seems to be little point to it, except to give him something to angst about and the Inquisitor to help with / bond over so Varric can also have his Character Development and Companion Quest quotas filled. Compare that with Garrus' character development from ME1 to ME3, and the difference is evident IMO.
TL;DR: it's not a deal-breaker issue for me, but if I could choose, I'd keep the ME franchise as a continuous story with a single hero, for variety's sake if for nothing else.

I guess it's all going to come down to technical stuff. "How easy is it to open a save file from the new XBox/PS4 in the new FB3 engine?" If the answer is very easy/the console doesn't change after a short period of time (without cloud saves, we'll have our answer. If it's not, we'll have our answer, as well. Much as I like to think that the keep was a good idea, it prolly wasn't. Too many choices for you to go, "What did I choose in the last game? I don't even remember a dwarf named that? All I wanted to do was sit here and play a video game. Not be quizzed on what I did 3 years ago."

I wouldn't mind playing with the same protagonist but with largely disconnected stories each time.

For Dragon Age, I prefer the one game one hero approach, even if I'd love to play my Inquisitor again in the next DA, even just for a section of the game, just to get some closure.
For Mass Effect, I liked how they handled Shepard and her/his story, the ties with old character and the sense of continuity. I got so much invested in my Sheps, and I would love to experience that again, with a fresh start, new characters and a new setting. I hope every game gives you continuity without getting predictable nor boring, with a focus on the story, many new characters and some returing ones.

They seem to really like the way a new protagonist can show new areas of lore with Dragon Age, so I could see it happening.

Personally, I'd prefer that they have a different protagonist in each game. Tell us a self-contained story in which our choices actually matter. It's really difficult to accomplish that across multiple games, which is why many felt their choices didn't truly matter by the end.

I honestly don't care which BioWare chooses, as long as the story's not only planned but kept up throughout the games. I think, between DA and ME, DA has a better record of this and i'd really like to see the ME series pick-up on this fluidity in the story.
I think if anything we might wanna fight for this because if there's anything i don't see strongly in any of EA's games, it's story (and in extention, dialog choices).

In an ideal world I'd prefer a continuous story with the same hero, but at the same time there's a point where it becomes super convoluted, hard and I assume really expensive to properly deliver a story that truly does vary significantly based on your major choices in past games. Like in the case of ME:A, I have absolutely no idea how the endings could've possibly been implemented if the game was set in the Milky Way and post-ME3 without just deciding that one of the endings is the official canon. Not to mention even further major variables like whether or not you cured the genophage or the resolution to the quarian/geth conflict.

Much prefer the idea of having the same protag across multiple games. I was was more invested in shepherds story and ME than DA, especially after they ditched the Warden ( although I understand why they did it, variables an all that ).

I find interesting the idea of focusing on side stories now that the main trilogy is over. Let BioWare experiment what they can do with the IP in various ways.

I want the thrill of seeing familiar faces each new game and having them recognise me too Yes, that's the thing that was a bit odd for me in DAI. On the one hand it's nice seeing those familiar, but then it's weird when they're like, "ohai..." * blinkblink*. As far as MEA, I feel like Ryder has room to grow. If this follows the Hero's Journey--that's a long path. A grueling one at that. And Ryder is just going be starting out, lower down the food chain than Shep in ME1. So, it feels like it could very easily turn into a multigame PC....depending on how MEA does.
