So I can't blame the guy for leaving since the final product does not give me any sci-fi tickles. Guess Casey Hudson offered more to the Mass Effect series then any of us thought. He will be missed. Best wishes to Casey Hudson.

I thought the game was pretty heavy on the transhumanist themes, even if they were subtle at times, just dealing with terra forming planets, or things like death and memories. This was definitely not the more cynical take of the original series, though.

Just because "it doesn't give you sci-fi tingles" doesn't mean it is why he left, its just as likely he left because of death threats and people wanting his head on a pike, or another reason is he wanted to do something else.

True, but I think losing creative control over the current idiots running the show at BioFail is still the best hypothesis as to why he left. I mean, creative differences is a thing. Especially when I see the final product completely devoid of the sci-fi feels past Mass Effect games had.

How do you know he lost creative control, since they made him the "Creative Director" of the franchise before he left. If anything his departure caused this because someone with a different vision filled his role.

Meh, seeing as how many people cried about ME3's ending, I imagine there are as many people who'don't be upset if he were still around If he was still around they would use every single problem they have with the game as "further evidence" he should be fired and never allowed to work in the game industry again since "he has no idea what he is doing".

So do people like Casey Hudson or not? I'm never sure what the consensus is from day to day. He played an instrumental role in creating my second favorite Star Wars game and creating my favorite video game franchise. He's aces in my book. ME3 ending was quite a fuck up but if I instantly disliked every creator for making a big mistake, I'd have a very small list of artists I still liked. It's easy for us to sit here and point and speculate as to what exactly went wrong and who we should blame etc. but it's not solely his fault and even if you dislike everything about Mass Effect 3 it shouldn't automatically disqualify all the great things that came before it...also helps that they at least attempted to fix some of the major issues with the ME3 endings while not completely giving up on what they wanted for the end. He could have given us a big middle finger and rode off into the sunset, but instead he stuck with it and endured all the criticism/threats lobbed at him while wrapping up the trilogy. Up to that point the guy was batting a thousand, and it sucks that he'll mostly be remembered for Starchild. Deserves a little bit better than that I think. Okay I'm done fellating the guy now.

In my eyes, he failed big with ME3. No matter if EA pushed him too hard to finish the game in 2 years, no matter if EA rushed the game to an early release. He could have cut the game in half and upon the success of release and thereafter release a dozen good DCLs at a reasonable price. So he wanted to give us a big memorable space opera and instead we got that, a game lacking everything which made ME and ME2 great... meaningful, moraly vague decisions where the one decision is just as good/bad as the other, conversation diversity and a worthy end. Truth? Just the ME3 combat was an improvement to ME2, everything else just lacked.

You're on target. It doesn't matter now. He was at the helm at the start of the franchise and he left with the RGB ending attached to his resume. I don't care who is writing, just stay true to the vision and if you don't know what that vision is, please... please stop writing.

In my eyes, he failed big with ME3. Not as much as the failure that is Andromeda. Hey, hey. Let's not be hasty now. Derp faces and lolhaircuts are one thing, but "art" is something else entirely. And never forget it was the "art" which made Andromeda necessary in the first place. Without it, a normal sequel would've been possible and most (if not all) of this would never have happened. Don't let some miguided nostalgia glasses blind you. Everything wrong with Mass Effect, including the current thing can be laid at the feet of "art"... and the people behind it, one of which you're now inexplicably pining for.

And at least when Lucas was done, Vader was still Vader, even if he'd had an emo period for some reason.

I like Casey Hudson. You should read the Final Hours of ME3. Casey Hudson had visison and was at the helm of some of my favourite games. I didn't like many things about ME3 but he didn't deserve so much shit for it. The man was a passionate game dev and pushed for Biowares very own sci fi saga. Now he is gone thanks to immature fans that can't handle a disappointing video game. Great job.

I get the feeling that Hudson is the guy who kept pushing ME to be more and more of an action game. He doesn't strike me as an RPG gamer. He as early as KOTOR he was quoted as pushing for more "visceral combat".
Mac Walters is without a shadow of a doubt the person to blame for for the disastrous direction story ME went in after ME1. Shepard dying, Cerberus, Starchild, more speculation! those are all his babies. Reading the interview his comes off as an idiot with the ego bigger than his head too, thinking everything good about ME is down to him.
