Growing Chili indoors is very surprising. What kind of chili plant was that? I tried to grow them indoors once and despite the sunny place on the window they all showed severe signs of too little exposure to sunlight. (Yellow leaves, small build, tall but thin stems) I also don't know anybody who grows them indoors (successfully). Also high five for tiny strawberries! They grow like crazy in my garden, many people laugh at them but I think they taste great! Also the way they propagate is funny - they build a long thin ''arm'' that crawls across the ground and new plants start to grow from it. Its kind of weird, like an umbilical cord.....that is also a womb....that crawls across the ground. Well, kind of. Definitely material for an Alien flick. The ones that did actual fruit were Habanero, Birds Eye and Yellow wax. We tried Piri Piri and some other that I don't even remember anymore. THe success depends totally on the cultivar, I think and I'm sure they would do better outside or in the greenhouse. They all got bugs that killed them eventually Wild strawberries have the best taste. Think if the big ones would taste the same... *sigh*

Giant ambush beetle, I have a bush of the giant poppy it is almost done blooming sadly. I did not know what it was (bought the house last fall) and left it to grow. The flowers are gigantic and love the bright red colour of the leaves. Do you know if it will return or do I need to collect seeds from it? Oh boy they definitely return - The blossom in the picture comes from a small poppy plant I planted next to my raspberries and then forgot about. That was 5 years ago, every year it returns bigger and better with nearly no maintenance at all. Only when its extremal dry I will water it a couple of times. thx I will just leave it as it is then and farm seeds once they are ripe to expand the poppy population in my garden

My awesome Icelandic Poppy colony was under attack from the forces of the evil snail empire so I built an emergency shelter to protect my people the plant. Not sure if its really effective but its better than nothing, its simply a plastic plant pot with a cut out floor and some spikes cut into the top. I will further prepare the ground around it so its is dry and without any shelter, thats what snails hate. Maybe I'll also dig a moat and add a catapult or a balliste so the Poppy can defend itself should it be besieged by the snail army. Oh wait, I think I'm getting a little carried away again...

Dont be rude dude, just offer them a beer, be friends with each other! Plus the snails will drown themselves to beer.

I thought about using beer traps but I'm afraid they would kill a lot of other benevolent bugs too. I know this is war, but that many civilian casualties may anger the bug and wasp empire and I can't afford any more enemies!

Funny, all I catch is snails. Sugary traps work for ants and wasps but I didnt know they go for beer as well.

No I haven't tried yet, all I know is whenever I drink alcohol in my garden I get swarmed by wasps and hoverflies so I assume they'd go crazy on a bowl of beer. Would be a shame to drown them.

I would think that the wasps would fly away, a bit tipsy but happy For me the wasps are problem only late in the summer when the nests have broken down and workers have nothing to do anymore but wait for the winter to kill them.

Here's the finished greenhouse. I'm so happy right now What I really like about it is the fact that it has glass walls instead of plastic. Another thing is that almost everything in it is recycled materials. Glasses are from a balcony renovation site, totally free, wood planks are leftovers from previous projects, floor tiles are from another renovation site. Paint, nails and screws and the plastic rooof were bought I think it cost less than 100€ all in all. My cucumbers are so ready to be planted!

The wind picked up a plastic board and smashed it upon one of my most holy chili plants, resulting in a broken branch. Then an idea popped into my head, what if I braced it somehow to prevent the branch from certain death? Took a drinking straw, cut it in pieces and sliced the pieces vertically. Put them over the bent part of the limb. Worked pretty good, like bracing a broken arm with a cast. I hope the little branch survives, it carries a lot of blossoms and thus potential fruits. Time will tell.

Great looking pepper harvest GABeetle.
My raspberries are starting to ripen enough to eat. I better get picking them. Pears are growing, tomatoes are forming nicely. Potato plants growing like crazy. I am having to water more than normal though as it has been very dry and hit here since early spring.

Great looking pepper harvest GABeetle. Thanks! My potatoes are growing nicely too, but its is indeed very dry, despite the occasional thunderstorm. I have to water them frequently..... They love the sun though.

A storm of epic proportions destroyed basically all my plants in my garden, I could only save the chili. First the power went out, I had no idea what was going on, 5 minutes later in an instant all hell broke lose, and I mean hell. Several trees snapped, all plants got shot to death by hail, rain so thick you could not see anything but a gray wall limbs and torn off leafs everywhere. I've experienced some storms in my life but this was several magnitudes worse than anything I've ever seen. I have to check the roof for damage.

I hope so, I'll see if I can patch up some plants and save them from death. The weird thing is, we have an excellent weather forecast and they said the weather would be calm and nice. Now this. And they haven't mentioned it in the news / forecast at all now. But the weather is getting more extreme every year, just a couple of days ago we had a tornado and they're getting more frequent every year. Also bad droughts. Crazy.

I heard that the storms were bad, but I had no idea they were this bad. Reminds me of the time two thunderstorms collided just over our house, it was like the world would end. All plants seemed to be completely ruined, but a few of them still made it. Some are really adaptable and just decided not to give a fuck and had new fruits. Fingers crossed for your plants and, of course, the roof!

Fingers crossed for your plants and, of course, the roof! Thank you. The funny thing is, it was just a single cloud no wider than 300 meters that carved a path of destruction and chaos through the landscape. My place happened to be in its path. Just 150 meters from where I live flora and fauna remained unscathed but inside this 300 meters wide lane of death trees snapped and hail ruined a ton of plants. A lot like a hurricane. Fortunately a lot of plants survived, I gave first aid to my potato plants which were all bent to hell, I straightened up every single plant with earth and 90% recovered, despite substantial damage to the leaves. My neighbors didn't do that and their potato plants all died. Same with my giant zucchini, despite severe damage it is still alive and already producing new leaves. Guess life finds a way, LOL.

The size of ice pebbles... o.O Thunderstorms are completely unpredictable. Good thing you didnt lose all your plants, Beetle!.
I found som aphids today from my greenhouse. Physalis seems to be the main subject but paprika got its share and oddly the strawberries I grow in tye greenhouse. Ive never seen aphids on strawberries though. I squished them all with my fingers, little buggers.
