Scott Ryder is awesome. He's sounds cooler and is much more laid back. Sara Ryder is awesome. She's sounds so much cooler and is much more laid back! ^^ How dare you have an opinion that's contrary to my facts.

Okay, my full VA preferences for the voiced Bioware's protagonists: ME/DA:F!Shepard = M!Shepard F!Inquisitor=M!Inquisitor (American) M!Ryder >F!Ryder M!Hawke >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> F!Hawke SWTOR:M!Agent >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> F!Agent* M!BH*** = F!BH M!Consular** <<<<<<<< F!Consular M!Inquisitor >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>F!Inquisitor M!Knight = F!Knight M!Trooper>F!Trooper M!Smuggler <F!Smuggler**** M!Warrior = F!Warrior * worst female protagonist voice ever ** worst male protagonist voice ever *** best male protagonist voice ever **** best female protagonist voice ever Prefer Sarcastic FHawke and Aggressive MHawke. I got to laugh at Jo Wyatt's American accent during her Balmorra arc but I'm glad that Nicholas Boulton is still in Agent's arc even as a minor role. But generally I like all SWTOR voice actors and all male VA is ten times better than Mark Meer ever be. Even Nolan North who I felt was alright... he's a proper Jedi.. but Kari Wahlgren is definitely more Gossip Girl than a Jedi....I main her as a Jedi Sentinel but really... I'd commend both Sith Inquisitors for making me like being psycho DS bastard/bitch... Brian Bloom is the better Trooper even if I love Jennifer Hale so much but I prefer her as Shepard. I would have like BroShep more if its Brian Bloom... that voice sooo.... *eargasm*... I really like Professional/Logical FemRyder and so far I enjoyed Casual BroRyder. In the end taste is subjective.

Sara Ryder is awesome. She's sounds so much cooler and is much more laid back! ^^ How dare you have an opinion that's contrary to my facts. Same! How dare you have an opinion that's contrary to my facts. Sara Ryder (is amazing) >>>> Scott Ryder (is ok, but never better) I think we're doing a huge disservice to compare professional voice actors like Nolan North and Troy Baker to part time amateurs like Tom Taylorson (MaleRyder). Regardless of what his vocal chords sound like, Taylorson just has no acting talent. There is zero natural emotion or context in how he says what he says. He is reading and it shows. Now, to be fair to Taylorson, he's not the only bad voice actor in this game. But Fryda Wolff (FemRyder) is objectively better and has way more videogame acting experience and chops. Any tonal unevenness (and there is a bunch of that) is due to the direction/writing, not the v-acting. I think I like Sara so much more than Scott! She's laid back and cool!

yeah I like them both I think male Ryder is better animated but I think female Ryder has a better VA as I loved the way Frydda delivered her lines in my first playthrough. I can see mysrelf rolling more Sara's than Scott's in this game but I think both did a reasonable job. In the trilogy I'd asy for me Mark and Jennifer were both pretty equally same with Hawke in DA2. But the last couple of games DAI and now MEA the girls are light years ahead in terms of VA as both Alix as the Inquisitor and Frydda as Sara have both done excellent jobs with their characters. I'm still in the middle of my second run my first Scott and I am still enjoying it but I'm kind of missing Sara's performance and her quirkiness from my first run. But I do have a double run with Sara planned for after I've had my little break from ME to do the Dragon Age games again. As Sara does kind of make me think of a young Janeway and by that I mean out among unknown stars trying to find answers to her problems just like Janeway was in Star Trek Voyager.

My favorite male VA lead in any Bio game is M!Hawke's, fo sho. I've never completed a DA2 playthrough using his voice. I tried, but after getting to Kirkwall, I stopped. Deleted the save and started another playthrough with Jo Wyatt

Katy Townsend was born in Glasgow, so yes. I'm from Glasgow, Scotland and Suvi sounds fine, I doubt it is exactly how she would sound in RL but she sounds authentic enough to me. It's not a broad accent, but if it was, people would struggle to understand. I do sometimes think that scottish people can sound off to other scots because they are moderating their accent to be understood. I guess that is probably the case with any representation of a regional accent. I think the voice acting was mostly great, there was one npc that seemed to be voiced by a plank of wood, but other than that I thought the cast were excellent. The face animations did let the performances down somewhat, which is a shame. You hit the nail on the head there. It's those moderated accents that I can't stand. Doesn't sound natural to me and as such the actor or actress doing it just comes across as being wooden. You see it a lot on TV across here. Scots brought into analyses subjects or put onto panels that stick out like a sore thumb. They may sound fine to others, but it can be really off putting as to us it sounds like they are reading straight from an autocue and doing it badly. It was like the fleeting Scottish accent we heard in DA:I. It was bad and made me cringe.

Hi, I'm slightly late to the party so apologies if this has been discussed umpteen dozen times. Anyway, I began playing this game last week and after initially rolling a male Ryder, I found the entire experience off putting. He sounds like a complete douche as the Americans like to say. Virtually every moment of those initial 3 hours were painful to sit through. So much so, I considered binning the game and moving on. But it's Mass Effect, so decided to re roll a fem Ryder and wow, the jump in quality is night and day. She doesn't come off as being a douche, she's actually funny when it comes to delivering her sarcastic and satire lines. Some genuine laugh out loud moments. Kind of reminds me of the dilemma I had when I first played Sunset Overdrive on the xbone. The male protagonist sounded like he had jumped straight from an 80's/90's Bill and Ted film. It was awful. Hated it then, hate it now. Then I switched over to the female protagonist and like this game, the difference was night and day. Turned out to be one of the most enjoyable games I've played on any platform this gen. So yeah, I'm I overreacting here? I prefer rolling male protagonists given the option, but sometimes the quality of the acting simply doesn't make it a viable choice. Other than that, currently liking the game. I had pretty much same exact impressions. Was around 10+ hours into game when I gave up and decided to reroll Sara. Even though Sara has a number of dialogues that are completely off in terms of intonations and context, overall her VO feels much better, because of the exact reason you mentioned - the way Scott speaks comes off like from some sort of high school douchebag, which ultimately becomes unbearable to listen. So no, you are not overreacting and don't listen to people saying otherwise, because clearly the way Scott sounds is just bad. And I don't think it has to do with actors voice, but more with a direction of his acting. Ultimately that's just another nail into MEA coffin of things that will never get fixed. Considering how poorly game already sells, I am fairly certain that next ME game will follow Assassins Creed Syndicate fate of bad sales due to franchise reputation being extremely damaged by a previous game, meaning much less preorders and full price purchases. Hope that will teach BW that releasing half baked product and pandering and pushing SJW and LGBT agendas too hard at the expense of normal fans of ME series will not get them anywhere - acceptable amount of sales simply can not be generated by tiny minorities when majority of fan base gets alienated. Tough lesson BW, its time to get your priorities straight before its too late.

There a lot of websites who could do with your information, which no-one else apart from EA seem to have. Do you work for them? Also, what's a 'normal fan'? I'm quite interested to meet one of them.

I can't stand the male Ryder's voice acting. I haven't been able to get past Habitat 7 before restarting. Part of it is certainly the acting itself I feel is low quality but the writing doesn't help.

She talks at a snails pace, I wonder if that was a choice made during recording to make her easier to understand for our foreign friends. I have never in my life heard a glaswegian speak that slowly.

It's funny, I happen to prefer Mark Meer as Shepard than Jennifer Hale. I prefer his delivery as well as vocal quality. There's something authoritative yet just about expressive enough for us as the player to access/relate with male Shepard without overdoing it, whereas I felt femshep was a bit overdone and not as vocally "reserved" as I would have preferred.
But with Ryder I prefer Fryda Wolff's quality and delivery as Sara than Tom Taylorson with Scott. Ryder is naturally "quirky" and bright-eyed/bushy-tailed, so the delivery for Sara is just perfect in my opinion. Even more so for the sarcastic/causal dialogue which is often hilarious with just the right intonation.
So yeah, in my "canon" Shepard is male and Ryder is female, both with default faces for what it's worth.

I especially like how it plays off of characters like Jaal and Drack.
