Yes she is Scottish. I don't know why people insist on saying she doesn't sound Scottish! Never said she didn't sound Scottish. Even Scottish actors/actresses have exaggerated their accent in the media just so they come across as sounding legitimately Scottish. One of the worst Scottish accents I've heard and it's regularly mocked here in Scotland is from LuLu and she's Scottish. She over does it. It's not really the accent, it's that inuuunation, lk' sheee is ooovis talllki to a baaaaaaabeeeeeee.....

I meant people in general. I've seen people say on Bioware FB page that she doesn't sound Scottish, even though is Scottish.....it's quite amusing really. For me personally, it's fake Cockney accents that I don't like.

So far I've enjoyed Sara as much as Femshep. The real down fall of this game though, is the awful dialogue. This is still my first playthrough (sitting at 29% thus far) and I've found the dialogue to be ok. Not earth shattering by any stretch of the imagination, but not the worst either. That said, I'm going full jerk Ryder this play through so I can't comment on the other side of the dialogue wheel.

I haven't played as m!Ryder yet, but so far what I've heard hasn't been anything special. His voice is just so very... generic. I was hoping for something more like Tom Spackman (Bounty Hunter from SWTOR) or even Mark Bazeley (Sith Warrior). Something more impressive. F!Ryder's voice I liked, but not how she said some of the lines.
My favorites from Bioware games have been both Hawkes (Jo Wyatt and Nicholas Boulton), female Inquisitor (Alix Wilton Regan) and various voice actors from SWTOR (mainly male Inquisitor, Bounty Hunter and Sith Warrior).

I love both and think both did a terrific job. If I absolutely had to pick I'd say I like listening to Fryda's voice just a slight bit more than Tom's, but not by much.
I have absolutely no idea yet which one will be my canon Pathfinder.

Sounding like a "douche" is perfectly fitting for many of the 'casual' dialogue choices. Female Ryder is often terrible with humor; with poor comedic timing it just becomes awkward instead.
I don't hate FemRyder, but I do think the male VA does better work in this game.

I actually agree completely. One of the reasons I just couldnt do the scott playthrough after sara. (the others being well...all of the other issues with MEA and mostly SAM...How I HATE SAM).

I dislike everything about male Ryder. His default face is ugly as fuck, it looks like he glued pubes to his face so he could have facial hair, and he does come off like a douche in voice acting. It's laughable that Cora would be into him, and agree to sex bc he comes off as immature-12 y.o.
Shame bc I really like male Shepard's voice and default face.
ME trilogy Female Shep = male Shep
DAI: female British voice > everyone else.

I generally like FemRyder's voice, but I can't stand her laugh. If they just never ever ever ever had her laugh, I'd be fine.

I think they both did a decent job. This is the first time in a Mass Effect game where i can actually stand the male protag's voice. No offense to Mark Meer as Shep, but i never got the feel for it.

Really? I like Scott's voice acting. To me he comes across as a sweet, funny, goofy guy. He talks to himself and is generally adorable. I haven't progressed beyond the prologue as Sara but I felt the way she says, "You know something?" to Lexi is inferior to her brother's delivery of the same line. But y'know, different strokes.

Both of them do a stellar job with what they have to work with imo. This game's narrative issues are more at the writing side of it.

Not Jen Hale or Ali Hillis great, but good enough. The writing though, ugh. The whole 'funny sitcom' vibe from start to finish is just really grating.

Oh, the day we get another male lead with the voice and personality of the Bounty Hunter will be glorious! All the other guys are so mellow in comparison. It's sort of funny, we never really see the protagonists to lose their temper etc in any of the games with a va save for SWTOR. Fingers crossed we get a tough badass in DA4! I am so ready for it! I will take an occasional overacting and too loud sound for the sake of a badass!

it seems VA is very subjective to what people like.
i could never get in to Femshep for example, because to me it sounded like she was in a bad B movie and overacting on every line. but she seems to be far and away more popular than maleshep, which i loved.
i like scott ryder more on a VA front so far than even maleshep. he oozes personality without coming across as forced. this is choosing mostly casual/emotional responses.
i havent tried a fem ryder yet, so cant really comment on that too much.
i also havent really noticed this supposedly bad writing that seems to be go to criticism of MEA lately.

It's both her accent and the high pitch. I like husky/sultry female voices w/o British-ness. In a side character, I would have probably just shrugged, but listening to it for hours and hours is just making it less and less likable. Female Smuggler, BH, Warrior, Trooper - they all were pretty neat. But the Inquisitor and Agent... just... not my thing.
I was really happy that we had a choice of 2 voices for Inquisition, that was a great move.

I thought Scott was better than Sara overall. Sara was better with the logical dialogue choices, but I thought Scott did much better with the other three icons, and Sara's romance lines/voice acting seems really bad in the Peebee romance at least.

Not at all. I have the same reaction to male ryder. He's not the only issue I have with the game but he's a large part of it. If Bioware gave us the choice of more of male ryder or silent protagonist, I'll take silent protagonist all day long. I've only heard female ryder in youtube review clips so I don't have a full picture. That said, what I have heard, I don't find her much better. To each their own.

Think it comes down to preference thing. I absolutely couldn't stand male shepards voice(when many preferred him over ten shep), I considered it bland, boring, etc etc where as femshep had fire to what she says, was passionate, etc etc. i haven't even given male Ryder a chance since I went with fem Ryder off the bat and was hooked, I saw no need to experiment when I had already found the voice that worked just fine. Yeah, it's amazing what can irritate one person can be an entirely enjoyable experience for the next person. Male Shepard, I preferred for the same reason you preferred female Shepard. I can't make up my mind up about "Suvi". I'm Scottish and if there's one thing I can't stand in games is a forced/exaggerated Scottish accent. Like the one we got in DA:I in the Hissing Wastes (the scout we stumble upon). One of the most awful Scottish accents I have ever heard in any game. Is the accent really forced? In my admittedly limited interaction with scots Suvi is pretty on par with what I normally hear. She was more exaggerated in Fallout 4 when she did a faux Irish accent in Cait.

Its Mark Meer vs Jennifer Hale all over again, some claim Mark did it better others,( mostly the internet ) claim Hale did it better. I personally thought I'd hate Tom, figured his voice was soft for my taste but I like how he plays Ryder much more than Frida but I'm pretty bias since I cringe just thinking about default Sara Ryder

I played as male Ryder and I thought he was the wrong voice actor choice and performance. Most of the time he sounds and delivers his like some cast member from Scooby Doo cartoon. Once I made that revelation, I couldn't un-hear it.
Don't like how male Ryder looks too. He looks like some dude from the 50s, definitely not the future. Unless we're talking Fallout series future. ... I miss Commander Bro Shepard.
