Who Rules Kadara Port

Having read 'Nexus Uprising,' Sloane does seem like she has her heart in the right place - sometimes. Reyes, from what we see, is a self-serving liar who may or may not have good intentions.

That said, in the immortal words of Capt. Jack Sparrow: "...A dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly it's the honest ones you have to watch out for, you never can predict if they're going to do something incredibly stupid." (eg. ditching your job to join up with the mutineers)

So Reyes it was.

Sloane. All the way. Every. Single. Time.

My Sara has always been passive aggressive toward Reyes. She chose Sloane and shot Reyes in the ass as he was slithering away.

I really don't get the fascination with Reyes that's going on around this place. Sloane is a hardened criminal and a horrible person, yes, but she's always been completely honest with us, completely open about what she does and why, how she runs things and how she feels about us and the Nexus. Every time she needed Sara for something unethical or self-serving she's been completely honest and has always mockingly given her the option to refuse. Reyes on the other hand, in addition to being a hardened criminal and a horrible person is also a smarmy, slimy, lying asshole who's always underhandedly used Sara every step of the way. If I had the option I would've shot him right after one of his lackeys in their hideout told me something like "You're not supposed to see this. The Charlatan ordered us to be nice and to not torture people in front of you." I'm not done with my first playthrough yet and I'm just hoping we get to see Reyes again so that my Sara can finish him.

Depends on the PT for me. Both are cool characters, tbh.

When the sniper was sitting there, this line was all I could think of. Getting an outpost and the safety of its people was a top priority.

Maybe Sloane would have changed her mind if my Ryder saved her, but at the time, my Ryder had to operate on what info *she* had, which is this specific comment.

That being said, it's a hard choice because I think Sloane is a really interesting character.

Plus she extorts protection fees and deliberately tries to addict her subjects with oblivion, and calls you her dog when you agree to help Kaetus. Reyes lets you settle Kadara and protects the outpost for free. He gives the local doctor money to operate and runs a soup kitchen.... he's a sneaky lying bastard for sure, but he's MY sneaky lying bastard

Reading Nexus Uprising really soured me on Sloane. She's clearly someone who has way too narrow of an area of competence to be a leader of anything other than a small team. She definitely shouldn't be running the port.

That said, if I had to base it on purely on what's in the game I'd do a couple of playthroughs alternating between choosing one and the other, because while I liked Reyes more, the information you get on both of them in-game makes it seem like they're both equally questionable choices.

Sloane it is. She runs a tight ship, to be sure, but trying to keep some sort of order on a planet full of lying assholes shooting at one another all the time, cannibals and who knows what else that generally opposes being ruled with any less extreme measures, is kind of a hard job. Plus, very few are horrible enough to deserve an end like that. Plus, say what you will, but Keema sitting all bossy on the throne is just a shitstorm waiting to happen. I wouldn't really be surprised if everyone with some power in Kadara port (including Reyes)+ the initiative outpost just woke up murdered one fine day, while rampaging Angara fanatics stomp on their kidneys.

In my book, Reyes is one bad day away from being as bad or worse than Sloane Kelly. She might be harsh and unforgiving, but you also know where you stand with her. Plus, given the kett, she's had to become hard just to survive. Meanwhile, Reyes operates from the shadows, and if he gets pushed, who knows what he or his people might do? Plus, really, what is the Collective but a slightly nicer looking/acting group of thugs, up to the same brand of shady shit that Sloane is, just offering a few bones to looking kinder in comparison. I'm sooner go with the devil I know and can predict, which is Sloane. Plus the whole sniper thing always feels like a cheat to me, given the pretense he draws her out with, not negotiating in good faith. Not that I don't understand it, but it does sour me on thinking that Reyes holds any moral high ground here.

That said, I also see a way for at least some of my Ryders to side against her as well. I like that this isn't a straight up 'here's an obvious choice painted as 'morally ambiguous' when it's actually pretty clean cut' kind of choice. I personally would side with Sloane, but I can justify my Ryders siding with Reyes too.

Ah the pick your preferred psycho nutcase gangster decision. Arrogant violent thug vs slimy backstabbing creep. Decisions, decisions.

It's all gonna go tits up whoever you choose, so it's a choice between being stabbed in the back or stabbed in the front when the inevitable occurs. I went with the front.

This.  Sloane may have had good intentions/reasons why she led the uprising, but what she did to the people once she got there was horrible.  Making them pay protection money?  Getting them hooked on drugs in the slums?  Exiling her own "exiles" to the Badlands when they couldn't pay up?  


Regardless of her being a leader of those retaliating against Tann and the Initiative, once she got on that throne, she became a drug-lord and mob-boss. Reyes was the lesser of two evils, the intentions of the Collective were better than Sloane's people, and Reyes wholeheartedly was behind having an outpost where Sloane considered one being an act of war.  

If you do a romance run with Reyes, you find he's got much better intentions for the people of Kadara than Sloane, and he's not about being the glory on the throne.
