Who does all the translation? Who activates the Remnant machinery? Who turns Ryder into a super-soldier to fight armies of kett and Remnant? Who stops and starts Ryder's heart at need? (for that matter, keeps Ryder alive at all?) Ryder is basically a taxi service for SAM. A portable node. SAM Ryder Ryder SAM. But i should note that is pretty much the only thing SAM actually does. And he still needed Ryders permission. SAM advises, SAM enhances,SAM anylizes. Ryder decides, Ryder does, Ryder provides the muscle, Ryder thinks, Ryder does critical thinking on tactical situations,Ryder learns, Ryder adapts. SAM is Jarvis, SAM is a really intelligent tricorder. SAM is steroids. SAM is nothing without Ryder. Ryder can't activate Remnant tech without risking a stroke. SAM does it. Ryder does not have conscious control over his/her physiology. SAM, however, does SAM is literally in Ryder's head. Can manipulate Ryder's moods, senses, even the neural impulses that regulates the Pathfinder's body. SAM is an AI with complete control over another human being. Who could, it it wished, manipulate what he or she thinks or does. The concept of a being like SAM existing is actually pretty terrifying, even if SAM is ultimately benevolent and only makes adjustments when requested.

I liken SAM to steroids baseball players take. Give steroids to a .173 hitter and he MAY bat .190. But give steroids to a .300 hitter and he'll probably bat .350 and add 10-20 homeruns to his stats You lost me. Baseball stats and everything make my head spin. Also, I hate baseball as a sport.

SAM is not shown to be able to do any of that. And if you stuck SAM in a bot like EDI i doubt he'd be able to interact with rem tech. I'd actually be shocked as hell.

fuck no without a second thought. getting tired of the whole "AI/machines outtoget humans" trope. ive never understood why this is a sci fi cornerstone, its such a silly scenario. Nice try AI

But stick SAM in sometime like Ryder who has training and is already awesome...that person would then become legend. It's not the steroids that make the player. The player makes the player.

Umm, remember when Ryder tries to activate Remnant tech without SAM? It nearly kills him/her. And yeah, it's all there in the exposition, SAM is plugged into not just Ryder's nervous system, but circulation, endocrine function, and exteroceptive senses." SO yeah, SAM could put Ryder into a depressive state, if it wanted to. Or mess with Ryder's hormone output and literally put the Pathfinder on steroids. etc.

I'm not quoting you as long as you continue to spoil. But the fact Ryder was able to do the thing WITHOUT SAM proves my point.

Yes, once all the kinks are worked out. I think science and technology are the future of humanity. you know this process used to scare the bejeebus out of me. But as long as my thoughts are my own and i retain individuality for the first time an AI in my head is not a bad ideas. Even for my low paying job the applications are endless. Imagine someone to remind me when i forget something. Or make sure i stay focused. Or someone that can stop me from panicking when i feel overwhelmed and remind me how much time i have. Or someone who can help me edit my books.

Yeah, big fat no from me. I've enough to deal with in my head without another 'personality' in there. Also, I sometimes like to end conversations that are going nowhere by walking away. Can't walk away from yourself.

As a transhumanist im just sad i dont have SAM in my head right now. ^^ The sooner we integrate with AI, develop Augments, invent functional brain-mapping, or perfect fetus gene-modification the better. Its very unlikely, but i hope to live to see the day were humans as they are now are finally gone and replaced.

Um, think about it. It's always watching, always there. SAM says he feels everything through you and that means he's there for everything. No privacy! Ick.

I believe the human race is a parasitic race that deserves to end eventually. We will be the makers of a new race born of organic and metal and best of both worlds. It's not a bad thing because everything has to end. But we will definitely give birth to a very unique race. Part human, part machine, part soul and part AI. Something very much like Ex Machina. So to your question : 100% yes

If it's for the greater good I guess I could do it. I'd just have to make sure that I'll be shot without a warning, the moment I say that one SAM per species is not enough.

Well, the question is not so much whether I would trust it. The problem is the intimacy involved in such a union. That SAM experiences really everything through your body, even participates in your thoughts to some degree is a more intimate relationship than a union between humans could ever possibly be - sex is nothing compared to this.
So the question to ask is really: Do you really want to engage in that kind of relationship with SAM. More intimate than sex, 24/7. Furthermore, from an outside beholder I and SAM will be indistinguishable.
I trust SAM to do what it is meant to do, assist me as an A.I. and extend my capabilities, while experiencing the world through me. That isn't the issue. Whether SAM is artificial or biologic like a trill in Deep Space 9 is not so very important in that consideration.

I have absolutely no use for a SAM in my life. What's it gonna do, help me finish sudokus in the games I'm playing? Or warn me against interacting with these individuals everytime I try to post something on the internet?
Really not worth the risk of SAM falling in love with my toaster and me sticking my dangly bits inside of it.
