In Andromeda, a big story point is the importance of S.A.M., your AI implant. Throughout the game, you'll hear a lot of arguments about the dangers of having an AI directly in your head, and there's even a sidequest revolving around an Anti-AI regime.
But S.A.M. in the game is interesting. The idea behind an AI implant is that it's designed to be a symbiotic relationship. The AI gifts the user with enhancements to his/her physical and mental capabilities, while at the same time, the AI learns about the world through the user's experience.
This raises a neat hypothetical question though. S.A.M. is capable of a lot of things, including killing you and somehow reviving you. With that knowledge, would you trust a S.A.M. implant in real life? Why or Why not?

I'd be wary, but I'd be willing to forgo that feeling if the implant grants me enhanced physical capabilities and allows me to cheat at cards. The only possible issue is it announcing when the weather is too hot or cold.

Hell no.
It's not a matter of "synthetics are EEEEEEEVIL!!!!!", I wouldn't trust any sapient being with that kind of power over me, where they could screw with my physiology, let alone stop my heart with a thought.
I'm actually kinda surprised Ryder can't freak out more about his. But then, Mac's the Creative Director, and Synthesis is his "most optimal outcome"

I would not, I think it would be way too dangerous. Some might hack my SAM and kill me and I cannot do anything against it, or hack it to feed me false advice/information. Would you put your life in the hands of a futuristic AntiVir or Kaspersky? This opens doors to all kinds of nasty blackmailing hackers, data / thought theft and similar intrigues. I think having an AI in your head would eventually lead to severe paranoia in most people as you would feel like losing control over yourself. External AI I can carry around on my wrist like a watch? Hell yes, but definitely not an implant in my brain that is capable of controlling my bodily functions. I think any implant that has control over body functions is extremely dangerous. But the day we all get a small super computer implanted, that monitors our health, controls bodily functions and controls an army of nanobots - for our own good of course - will definitely come, and many problems will come with it. Just think about the possibilities.
Besides all this, I'm also one of those slightly oldschool weirdos that enjoy not having to rely too much on technology. Technology can break, I rather rely more on myself. I'm not an Amish by any means but I like to use real maps, navigate without relying on GPS and I appreciate gas guzzling 70' cars because I can fix them and they just work. Simply jump-starting a modern car and electronics are screwed up which you cannot repair by yourself. It needs a costly repair in a certificated service center. That sucks.
In a way I'm like Will Smith who played that detective in I-Robot. I like technology but I want a safety space between it and me and not rely too much on it - let alone fuse with it.

I believe the human race is a parasitic race that deserves to end eventually. We will be the makers of a new race born of organic and metal and best of both worlds.
It's not a bad thing because everything has to end. But we will definitely give birth to a very unique race.
Part human, part machine, part soul and part AI.
Something very much like Ex Machina.
So to your question : 100% yes

Probably not, but there is also the argument that we are already sort of symbiotic with technology as it is now--for example constant cell phone and Internet use is having an impact on how people think and make decisions.
But for something like SAM, there are a lot of interesting places they could go with it. Like, could SAM be hacked or hijacked somehow? We already saw a bit of this when Ryder is temporarily seperated. Could it alter memories? And what about privacy? SAM has a private channel and can encrypt memories. But there are a least two romances where it's pointed out how they are being watched. Cora, for one, seemed uncomfortable with this, at least during their sex scene.
I hope if they do a sequel we see more of these sorts of themes.

For one thing, "a" SAM doesn't actually have the power to change your physiology or start and stop your heart. The Hyperion's Sam can only do that because Alec made sure he and his children got overpowered implants. The other three (four? I can't imagine the quarian ark would be happy with the idea) SAMs just analyze the pathfinder team's sensory information and provide tactical advice.
With that in mind, privacy is the main reason I can think of to object to having a SAM. As long as they installed private mode switch in mine, I don't see any problem.

But then, Mac's the Creative Director, and Synthesis is his "most optimal outcome" He should have made it available no matter how low ems is instead of it being at 2700 I wonder if Mac would like sam in his head? Javik: SAM stands for "stupid a** machine"

Yes, I would. I loved the idea of Synthesis, and I love the idea of SAM. The idea of cyber enhancements or AU avatars like in Matrix really appeals to me in sci-fi & I'd rather be a cyborg than a goddess.

My Ryder had no problem with it but me personally? No. I have a hard enough time saying "Ok Google" out loud, there is no stinking way I'm going to have some AI implant in my head. No. Nonono.

Knowing my father was the one who programmed it? Yes.
As a required implant for a role to be filled? Still yes, but perhaps not as enthusiastically.

Nope I prefer to remain myself in the blessed solitude of my thoughts and errors even if it means living in the ignorance and stupidity of my limitations of human rather than having an AI in me and therefore losing what actually means being me with the qualities and shortcomings that defines my identity as a human being.

Let me see, would I trust something that could kill me at any time by stopping my heart. Hell no.
You're off on the Tempest, but the SAM node is back on the Nexus where it can be tampered with. Plus you're talking about an AI using logic, but not common sense always, that may just decide it knows what's best for you and start using any control it has to save you from yourself.
I guess a good question is if we're talking about Ryder SAM, or factory SAM.
