*PS Blog uses "downloads" as opposed to numbers. Its unclear though (well I don't know) if these are new downloads, that means that someone in theory, could delete a game and re-download it later for whatever reason and if that counts as a "download". Slightly off topic, but how is GTA 5 still killing years later? Was it on sale or something, because GTA 5 is 2nd on ps4 and 1st on ps3. blog.us.playstation.com/2017/05/05/playstation-store-aprils-top-downloads/

Its not unexpected, BioWare games don't have a long tail of a sales life. Even EA when making their projections for the sales of the game expected 3 million in the first week or so and another 3 million across the lifetime of the product.

No surprise. MEA is a flop when it comes to sales. And critics. And most fans. Proof? Unless you know "most fans" you can't claim that and the sales aren't definitive as no digital sales are counted. It may be slight lower than ME3 but not a failure.

Meh, don't care about how well/bad games sell or download.
GTA is popular for the online aspect. It has been given a ton of support and still gives out mega deals to help people out. The online aspect is the only thing I like about it, I still haven't finished its actual story mode and don't intend to. It's to much fun just running people over with bulletproof cars instead plus there's custom games people make that are just badass compared to what the story makes you do.

But every other metric published so far hints at disappointing sales as far as physical and digital sales on Xbox and PS4 are concerned. That and the game was 30% off less than a week after release...

To really be honest: games go on sale/discounts even before launch, it's all to entice people to buy the game and up those sales numbers. A lot of the xbox games take advantage of the free to play weekends or even give extended longer time periods to give people a taste, then they cut off that free to play period and you have people wanting to buy it after giving it a go in the F2P period. So I really don't see the game being 30% off as a desperate act and more so of trying to entice people.

Now, Gamestop, bestbuy, amazon, etc have just the physical copies at $20 off for a set period time. Doesn't really jibe with the "they're desperate" narrative.

That and the game was 30% off less than a week after release... Disappointing compared to what? EA publicly stated that they were only projecting three million copies sold during launch. That doesn't mean if they only sell two million it is a failure, just because it wasn't #1 on the sales lists doesn't instantly make it a failure. A failure is only if the game doesn't meet the internal numbers and they haven't released them, only projections.

25% off in the first two weeks is a really bad sign for a AAA title. That's when 50%+ of sales occur, and they are expected to be for full price. PC can get some pretty good discounts early, but not the Xbox and PS4. That's a sign that retailers were not seeing the sales they desired, and dropped the price to get rid of b-stock in their stores.

Not really, that is all public perception and not if the game is meeting expectations of what the publisher and developer have. If EA is expecting three million copies sold, but retailers buy five million copies to sell, EA had its expectations met, but retailers have two million copies to burn.

Well, it'd be nice to get something more solid for perspective. For now it's just a silly echo chamber.
