But...can Cerberus exist without TIM? It's hard to imagine any character Bioware might come up with having the force of personality and ruthlessly focused drive to replace him. I kind of think TIM is Cerberus. Maybe he figured out how to do a consciousness download to be dropped in a cloned body at a later date...a failsafe he put into place if his plan to control the Reapers failed. In Andromeda, Cora will become The Illusive Woman(TIW). Cerberus will rule Andromeda. In the Milky Way, TIM will return. How so? Simple. The guy did say the details have changed over time. He also has changed the story at least once. The TIM Shepard encounters on the Citadel was a clone. The real TIM is in hiding. ME4 will feature the rebuilding of Cerberus to their former glory they experienced in ME2. I don't think Cora is ruthless enough. I would love an Illusive Woman though. I'd like to see a super sultry woman who uses sex as just another tool for manipulation. Whatever pressure point she can lean on to advance Human interest's across the galaxy is fair game.

What do you think of Face options? For me the CC in BG3 do a lot right. But i like the Pathfinder clarity better (for classes). And some things i don't want to modify.
Do you like the Ending?
For me, the confusion is a big problem for combat. Some Let's play have help me a little, but i don't get it really. As long as i understand and be able to manage everything like in DAO, DAI, FE three houses and Pathfinder i am okay with combat.
And i agree with you on the things that sucked.
But for me the most impressive thing is that the world react to my race and even background. And please more classes in DA. I don't need a lot of classes, but i would love 3 more. mage - cleric fighter - fernkämpfer fighter
rogue - ranger I liked the face options. A bit more limiting than other RPG's but I was able to craft workable characters for my made up backstory. Yeah, I loved the world reaction to race and background. I did a female Drow Cleric (Drizz't inspired) on my first playthrough and loved the suspicion I received. I'm generally fine with DA classes but I would like them to bring back putting points in the abilities such as STR and DEX...as well as have CHA be a meaningful stat that opens up dialogue options and alternative solutions. I always work the CHA when it's a significant part of the game.

Well I like 'em both for different reasons. Things I like about BG3: It's cool being able to converse with animals...or the dead. And the charisma unlocks are astounding. There are a lot of different paths you can take to resolve quests too. I like the character creator better because what I craft actually looks the same in cutscenes...obviously the hair options blows DA away. I was hesitant to play because of the turn based combat but it ended up flowing pretty well and gives you plenty of ways to take enemies down...I still prefer DA2/DAI's style of combat (but loathed DAO's). I'm impressed with depth and breadth of the world...and the versatility of character builds/specializations. Things it sucked at was companion swapping, inventory management, and armor customization.

By the goddess, I hope they don’t involve Cerberus in any way, shape, or form in this. They have been so overused. Plus why would anyone bring them back after they supported the Reapers? One of the reason's why MEA failed was because Cerberus wasn't in the game. Cerberus is Mass Effect. Without them, the reapers would have harvested the galaxy. They didn't support the reapers. They were indoctrinated. They were doing the reapers bidding. Dumb dumb even says as much by saying it controls TIM. They need to return to their former glory from ME2. ALL HAIL TIM But...can Cerberus exist without TIM? It's hard to imagine any character Bioware might come up with having the force of personality and ruthlessly focused drive to replace him. I kind of think TIM is Cerberus. Maybe he figured out how to do a consciousness download to be dropped in a cloned body at a later date...a failsafe he put into place if his plan to control the Reapers failed.

Not my usual cup of tea…generally prefer to control action…but I’m having hellacious fun. As a kid back in the 80s growing up playing D&D, I think they did an amazing job…many advancements and rules changes but I still understand it well enough. Not even through act two with 65 hours…can’t even believe it. Really enjoying the characters and story. I was wary coming in but glad I pulled the trigger…seeing the character creator did it for me.

Now we learn that the workforce is being stripped down to the bare bones, and some of the senior writers/content-makers given the boot shortly after learning that SWTOR was being farmed out to another company. If this isn't an clear indication of EA preparing to put the final nails into Bioware's coffin I don't know what is. Frankly I'd be amazed if Bioware still existed at this time next year. Sure the Mass Effect and DragonAge franchise might continue for a bit under the EA moniker, but they will be pale shadows of their former selves - likely little more than cheap, hacked out cash grabs and mobile games. Laying off 50 people is hardly stripping Bioware to bare bones. The games been in alpha for what...a year now with a release date of a 18 months away. I don't think they would have let those people go if they really needed them. I've been hearing about that nail in the coffin since DA2. If it happens, it happens. Prognostication is meaningless at this point. The game is as likely to do just well enough for Bioware to keep plugging along as it being really good or really bad. There's value in the Bioware brand and EA knows it. Am I happy with the situation? Of course not. Having to wait more than a decade for a sequel is torture...and from my point of view it was totally unnecessary as they could have made incremental improvements to DAI, focused on story, and had another 2 installments. Bioware's need to reinvent the wheel with every game is simply a terrible strategy...especially given how fickle fanbases can be. But it is what it is...and I've come to terms with their relative success moving forward.

Started about my twentieth listen through of The Traitor Son Cycle, a 5 book series I would classify as the world of The Witcher meets medieval knights...it's very much historical fiction that incorporates hard fantasy. It has an excellent cast of characters, fundamentally flawed and led by their too young inexperienced captain trying to mold them into something greater than a mercenary band. I would sum the series up the following way: An irreverent knight, a barbarian killer, a former whore turned "man-at-arms," an aging magus, a nun, and a middle age seamstress have to save the world from annihilation. The whole series is littered with editing flaws but are ultimately easy to overlook (at least for me) because of the excellence of battle sequences (I'm not sure there's a series I've read or listen to that does it better...or even equivalent) as well as interesting characters. The only series I've read/listened to more is the Wheel of Time. I highly recommend to anyone who loves fantasy.

Finished the third book of the Final Architecture Series and would wholly recommend the series, thoroughly enjoyed it but i just wish I had been able to spend longer stretches of time with it especially at the end. It is a series I will definitely re read it has a good story, good characters and is interesting and had a ME feel to some of it. I think he has probably set it up for another trilogy. Just finished...actually re-listened to the 1st 2 books and starting it for a second time. I'm not sure about another trilogy...felt like there was finality to it...but maybe on a second pass I'll see something different. I can already tell this will become a part of my regular rotation of listens as a favorite. I prefer The Final Architecture to his Children of Time series...mainly because of the array of excellent characters who feel unique and are fundamentally flawed. Human dichotomy in all its glory. And of course "angels of punching you in the face."

Based on the trailer the 2nd season seems promising and appears to follow the storyline of 2nd book more closely despite some of the obvious deviations. I'm still not loving the fact they're cramming a book or more into 8 episodes but at this point it is what it is.

From MEA: Combat system itself - not the lack of enemy variation and generally poor enemy AI as that got boring quickly...nor the BS profile nonsense. Everything else in the dumpster.
From MET: Keep enemy variations and unique attacks and generally better attacking patterns from ME3. Space ship and planetary vehicles with offensive capabilities. Linear-based missions and story progression; with ME2 side missions. Exploration should have a purpose as certain ME1 missions, e.g. finding and infiltrating pirate holds or being lured into a trap by the Geth...only stuff that drives the story. Variable backgrounds that provide the basis for nuance in the way we roleplay. Nuance in the way are companion dialogues change based on our backgrounds and decisions that we make along the way. Paragon/Renegade interrupts (or something like it; diplomatic/aggressive - perhaps incorporating our specific background). But not the P/R point system that grey out dialogue options...if you have a point system hide the dialogue - revealing when conditions are met.
Probably other stuff.

Question for the book readers... Were there any Red Ajah that were actually good mentioned by name? My memory of the later books is rather dim tbh but I am still going through the audio books and in book 7 “A Crown of Swords” I just came across Pevara Tazanovni who genuinely seems like a nice person overall. I quickly flipped through her wiki page a bit and it seems there are quite a few fairly decent red sisters later on. But you’ll have to wait a while Also Teslyn Baradon - a hard but fair woman who is forced to reevaluate many things traveling with Matt after he rescues her from the Seanchen...and she repays him by saving his life from the Gholam. She's a character I've come to appreciate more in subsequent readings.

Re the Essiel they (well the Hook and The Scythe ?) use a Hiver to Translate but it says the make like weird farting and belching noises IIRC. I don't know if I have ever seen Julia Child but I did a search is it the Chef? If that's what Trine sounds like it'd be pretty funny. [iframe title="YouTube video player" width="560" height="349" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/oT4z2iZIOuA?wmode=transparent&start=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="1"][/iframe] Yep, the chef...over the top just like Julia. Yeah, the Hiver performance doesn't capture those sounds...be pretty tough to do and sell...but amusing nonetheless...more high pitch and squeaky and of course synthetic sounding. I started doing audiobooks back in 2019 with The Wheel of Time...more as a trial thing than anything else...and I haven't looked back. Aside from really bringing life to these stories I'm able to listen while commuting and working and generally doing everything else that makes actually reading impossible (plus I get tired eyes really quickly trying to read anymore). The cost only ends up being a little bit more than a soft cover (cheaper than a hard cover) with a membership and occasionally audible will run sales for members...I ended up getting half the Expeditionary Force series for like 5$ per at a time I was debating whether I even wanted to continue the series which is simultaneously great and frustrating. I would say you have to be somewhat discriminatory on how to spend credits as there are limits placed on the number of returns per year...maybe 2 or 3 per. If you haven't really done the audiobook thing and want to try I'd start with stories you love to return to. Anyway that's my spiel on the joys of listening.

I agree with all your comments. I'd be interested in how the voicing of Kit the Hannilabra is as I can never quite get it clear in my head? And the Essiel that must actually be quite hysterical!!! It's hard to pick a favourite race or character they are all so good and yeah that saying “Angels of Punching You in the Face." is brilliant EDIT 3 July: wonder if the whole Parthenon thing was influenced by the Asari if he was aware of MET? I also can't help but imaging Havaer as being Mordin Solus. I really need to read them all again as my reading of them was really disjointed. So I just finished up Eyes... Kit is great...they have a mechanical sing-song voice that is delivered unevenly...like the translation software is not quite in sync. I'm not sure about the Essiel or at least I can't remember well...don't they use subordinate races to speak for them? I don't think the Parthenon are an Asari thing though I can see the comparison. I actually have a similar concept to them in one of my own stories I'm trying to develop...but it's more from the standpoint of just how wrong that could go...pretty much all the fears of the Hugh toward the Parthenon in actuality. I could see how with someone voicing it for you Havaer could end up sounding like Mordin. Alas, he's played pretty straight...typical agent man. Still well delivered and it works for his character. Probably the best is Delegate Trine who sounds like Julia Childs...and Olli comes across every bit as onery as she is...wish I had a mechanized scorpion to wreck things with. I think Kris is probably my favorite...character-wise I mean...mainly because I love the whole metaphorical aspect between dueling and legal arguments. That was very cleverly done. I'm with you though, I really have to reread/listen - much as I had to with the Children of Time novels. I have to wait for my next Audible credit to drop so I go through again before listening to the 3rd book.

Question for the book readers... Were there any Red Ajah that were actually good mentioned by name? The only one i can think of atm is Silviana who's not good or evil. She has a neutral /fair justice type of outlook, and she stopped Elaida from torturing Egwene to death but was jailed for it. I think good and evil are not really the right words for the Red Ajah...more like gradations of severity. But in addition to the one you mention is Pevara Tazanovni - one of the few reds who supports the Ajah having warders.

So finished the second book "Eyes of The Void" definitely a good as the first one, more characters added to the line up which is a bit of a struggle for my poor memory but a lot more development of characters, factions etc. I struggled to find long lengths of time to read it which meant little bits here and there so I feel "I" didn't do it justice but it was still a very good read. Already started the 3rd book. Just started listening to Eyes of the Void...Sophie Aldred does an amazing job with the characters. Tchaikovsky really is the best at writing alien aliens and creating authentic worlds. There's a kind of poetry to the way he writes few other authors replicate in Sci-Fi and Fantasy...that I find very appealing. I usually hate to throw labels like genius around but I really think he is one. Damn, I wish I could write like he does. Plus, I can't help but smile every time I hear "“Angels of Punching You in the Face."

Decent enough military sci-fi at times cleverly woven together. Some of the naming conventions and aliens are pretty goofy but it has good characters and battle sequences. R.C. Bray's performance really helps it though the source material doesn't take advantage of his skill as a narrator as Expeditionary Force provided. Still worth a listen if your starved for this type of genre and have some Audible credits to spend. The first four parts (excluding prequel books) each include two books...giving it better value.

I'll go with Qunari since I have no recollection of examples of Qunari Grey Wardens.

If Rook is the new "Herald/Inquisitor/Pathfinder" term, I think it stand for the chess piece We're gonna have codenames for our team...there's Rook and Bishop and Knight and Queen...maybe a few pawns too: Pawn 1, Pawn 2, and so on.

I see it took us 3 days to get to the "true fan" strawman. Longer than I expected, honestly, this place is not as toxic as some would have me believe. Claps all around. We're in the pre-Alpha optimism stage right now...once we know more grief, rage, and denial will abound.

Bear McCreary and Richard Gibbs. BSG music, can hear in my head clearly like Cylon symphony. No Boomer or 6 though I don't think there is any other series that had such dynamic impact musically as what Bear did with BSG from episode to episode and seasons to season. All Along the Watch Tower and Kara Remembers are burned into my brain.

Hopefully better than DAI. I thought not having a sequence interacting at the Mage/Templar conclave was a mistake...it would have provided an emotional connection to the story and provided better RP nuance from the start.

Varric hasn't worn out his welcome yet in my eyes but stealing the Viscount's job from Hawke was annoying. Nah, after the events of DA2 Hawke was like F*ck! This! City!
