My daughter turned 1 today. To celebrate we took her to the aquarium (I think she scared the penguings by shrieking at them) and let her have her first cupcake. She kind of went into a trance as she smeared frosting and cake all over her face. As she was eating the cupcake, she kept bringing her arm to her side but I didn't think anything of it. After her cupcake, I changed her and found cake in her pants, I guess she was saving it for later?

I got a call from preschool that little stink had fallen in the mud and I needed to get her some new clothes to change into when I picked her up. When I picked her up from school: "Mom, I gotta tell you a story." "Ok....what's the story?" "Once upon a time, there was a little girl named _____, and she was happy, running around the playground. Until she fell in the mud (she starts getting emotional and crying,) and got all of her clothes muddy! Then the little girl was sad!!!" Took everything in me to not crack up at her apparent trauma.

Thank you for the birthday wishes! The year went by too fast :sob: Your daughter's story makes me chuckle and breaks my heart all at the same time. I hope she doesn't have another muddy puddle incident anytime soon. My older kid has already started to write a letter to Santa. Oh boy... Oh my! My co-worker's son did the same thing last year. Every time he would see a commercial for a toy or game he was interested in, he would write it down. When Christmas rolled around and it was time to get the list to Santa, he looked the list over and didn't want a lot of the things he had written down through the year and narrowed his list down to maybe 7 or 8 things. One of the items he wanted was a dozen glazed donuts; Santa was happy to get him that gift and a few more donuts for the rest of the family

Usually at my doctor visits, they listen for the baby's heartbeat, etc. But this time was an extra appointment, to check my weekly blood sugar log. So it was a very short visit. Right when the doctor was about to leave, my daughter says, "Now, what're you going to do to my mom?"

My daughter just woke up bawling because she had a dream that Dora the Explorer came to our house and gave her candy. And she was so sad it wasn't true.

This morning the other half got our 2 year old up and as she got her out of the cot she just said "I want daddy" and ran off to jump on me, to wake me up. How nice.

My daughter had a fever last night and wasn't feeling well, so after walking back and forth from my bed to her crib several times, I decided to let her sleep in my bed. She snuggled up next to me and let me hold her for most of the night but then rolled into the middle of the bed around 1am. At 4am, she was wide awake and wanted to play. She decided to wake her dad up by slapping him in the face repeatedly.

Soooooooooooo my husband had a vasectomy last week and was down for the count for most of the week. My daughter obviously saw he was hurting on the couch, and it didn't help he had an ice pack over his pants on his special place. "Daddy! Did you get an owwie on your boy-gina?"

Dear parents. Get your kids into airsoft. They'll never have money for drugs. Or smoking. Or alcohol.
...and then they might decide to quit after a year, because it's just too damn expensive.

Oh! Oh, oh, oh! I didn't know this thread existed!
Yesterday my daughter was playing Minecraft on the console. I was sitting beside sending a couple of messages on my phone and I hear this mumbled, "why is it staring at me? Fucking ginger....."
Yeeeeeeeah, she's four and turns five in May. I'll admit I laughed but I have no idea where that even came from.
Another time, a couple of months ago, my sister went into her room and asked if she had something and the sassy little thing replied back with, "does this look like the kitchen?"

"Daddy! SHOES ON! SHOES ON! SHOES ON! SHOES ON! SHOES ON! SHOES ON! SHOES ON!" "You want to go outside?" "No daddy, no! Don't want that!" "You don't want to go outside?" "Noooooo! Daddy! SHOES ON!" "You want to go outside?" Silence as I watch the brain whirling. "Yup. SHOES ON!"
(Note this is as she is walking down the hallway holding my shoes in both hands and dumping then at my feet).

He turned on his best angel face and replied, "what's this muck"...I couldn't keep a straight face so lost any kind of parental terror I might've been able to muster. Little prick.

That reminds of something our eldest said when he was 3...maybe almost 4.... A mate of mine had come over to watch the rugby and was wearing his boots (not muddy or dirty or anything like that) and the boy was sitting in between us. Out of the corner of my eye - rugby was on, after all - I saw his eyes go from my mate, to me, and back, several times over, clearly weighing up whether saying something was the right course of action before coming out with.... "we don't wear shoes inside, eh daddy?" in such a tone as to suggest "get your boots off, you savage". My mate jumped up and put his boots by the door. Good times.

So, remember my daughter has an obsession about the word "bum?"
Well when she went over to another person's house for a playdate, the little sister tattled to her mom that she and her big brother were "potty talking." Since then, we've told her she can't say words like bum or poop unless she's in the bathroom.
As she was getting ready for the bath last night....
*comes in the bathroom* "Can I do potty talk in here?" "Yes, you can." "BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!! BUM BUM BUM BUM!!!!!"

My daughter just started the copy-cat phase now and will mimic a lot of behaviors and mannerisms from my husband and I. I've been attempting to work out more and we have a small room next to her play area where I will work out while my husband watches her and vice versa. I guess he and I grunt a lot while lifting weights because now she will start to lift her toys and grunt as she picks them up. My favorite thing is that I have been doing a kettlebell routine and she has a rattle that looks very similar; she'll lift it up to her chin all while grunting then drop it down to her waist and do it again. I'm worried when she starts talking (aside from mama and dada) that she'll copy me and some of the things I say, extremely worried that she'll copy what I say while driving.

I don't have any kids yet though I do have a bun in the oven. Can't wait to regale tales of my own. I do however often get told things I did or said myself when I was little. Apparently I was quite early with just about everything. By the time I was 2, I went to daycare. But I always sat with the teachers and didn't want to play with the other kids. So my mom asked me why I didn't want to play with the other kids. And I told her whilst crossing my arms the way only a toddler can, it was because they stank (they still wore diapers) and couldn't speak yet. Another thing happened last month when one of my sisters-in-law had suddenly passed away and my other sister-in-law's youngest son who is 6 (though he's behind in development as he still can't speak all that well) commented on her death by saying: "Auntie Sandra is now game-over, huh mom?" We didn't know whether to cry or laugh at this.
