Well, I guess with not really knowing what BioWare is actually going to do, it's hard to say what benefits what right now. The only thing truly benefitting at the moment is Kotaku. It's diabolical I tells ya. Screw Kotaku, I didn't even give them a click.Whatever I learnt, I read on this forum. Anyway, whatever happens...I just don't want to see ME gone .Mass Effect is Bioware's baby, they won't abandon it. So was Jade Empire. Brilliant IP. Good game mechanics for the time, okay graphics. One game only. Cancelled second game. And it was the baby of the old guard in BioWare, the legendary basement crew of medical equipment guys.

It is omnipresent in ME1. ME2 had way better characters, writing and was much darker with only ocassional "Heavy Risks.... but the price.." ME1 is really cringe worthy and cheesy. Which gave it's charme. That's why Andromeda is so cheesy, it's heavily based on ME1 and not the whole Trilogy. to be fair I really am speaking of the dialogue in ME2 and 3, ME1's is indeed not great. I think Andromeda is cheesy because the writers responsible for it aren't that good, I don't think it was intended to be nearly as cheesy as it came out as. That's why I play ME1 purely as a Renegade to endure the cheesyness of ME1. That is really the biggest critic point for me regarding Andromeda. Where is my Renegade? I think they will need to balance the cheese in a sequel. ME2 had a great balance, between absolute weird lines with Jacob and the greatness of Mordin.

At the end of the day Andromeda is just more Mass Effect minus all the luggage, the different planets, the different factions, the different races all offer a wealth of story potential for future Mass Effect games,so yeah,Andromeda has set up a nice foundation that's worth expanding. Sure. Unfortunately, the foundation of this new story in the Andromeda Initiative feels rather half-baked.

Expecting Mordin in every game is setting yourself for a disappointment. ME3 cast is lacklustre.

And I think it was along the lines of my favorite game dialogues in BG2, Jade Empire and DA2. It's funny, sparkly, memorable and well-voiced. It manages to convey the backstories through short banters and quick messages rather than laborious info-dumps. It's pretty good. now, cutscene movement and animations are not as good as in Inquisition. But writing? Entertaining and easy on the ears during the scenery stuff, and serious when need be if you want during the story. It's exactly how I like it in video games. Have you played a Dwarf? It's not that pretty.... the Inquisitor is certainly not designed to be a Dwarf. But now I really want to listen to some JE soundtrack. Absolutely fantastic. Where is JE2?

I was told not to take it personally, he surely meant the faith, not the race. Yep. That definetly was the faith thing that mattered when he called out some trash about oxmen. I want JE2 as well. That fighting system in Andromeda will fit it brilliantly.

I'm one of those folks that likes MEA, and accepting it for what it is. This is the first one, of possibly a trilogy (we'll see), what MET has 10yrs to grow on us. Although Shepard's story is done, far as we know, I could leave it there, or perhaps enjoy another Shep story, perhaps the early years leading up to, and including rise to N7 status.

I honestly was excited to head to Andromeda but the writing is...poor. There was so much more they could have done. I understand bringing the species from the Milky Way but the only other species you see are Angara and Kett? Where the ME trilogy had so many interesting races. The trilogy was entertaining but MEA could have been so much more. I think they were short sighted. They certainly weren't short on time. If they wanted an exploration game, they could have and probably should have, gone the way of a new race on every new planet, some peaceful and some antagonistic. Ryder's job would have been much more meaningful if she has to negotiate peace everywhere she went and get rid of the kett. They are a poor excuse for an enemy. The companions should have been thought over better and honestly, I would have prefered Cora be the pathfinder and Ryder be her attache. It would have made much more sense.
Would I buy another MEA game, probably. I would just hope that they use this time to hire better talent.

I kinda feel the hard work is done, the narrative demonstrates plenty of scope to expand as the whole Andromeda Initiative can be seen from many different perspectives.....I don't expect a direct continuation of the story but a 50 year leap in time and Andromeda could be very different place.

Playing as a Power Hungry Dwarf with some hilarious Cutscenes is more entertaining than the whole game. :gentleman: JE2 with Andromeda fighting system? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.

ME: Voyager was what I expected, but the game did not start us in a position of power on an amazing ship and a bunch of fresh from the war fighters to fall back on. Multiple worlds where Angara and MW races are vying for left-over resources, while Kett are trying to capture and process them is not bad as a premise. As "establish a foothold" MEA is scoped fairly realistically.
ATM, human colony is more like Vikings rather than Spaniards in the new world.
I expect the: "new race for each new cluster!" approach in the sequel, and at least we'd have powerbase established so we could actually build war machinery to back up our claim. Or, at the very least, a Voyager or Enterprise with photon torpedoes and strong shields.

Nah, I just want a game in JE world with those upgrades to fighting and pretty backdrops.
What I REALLY want is more and shorter Games released every year across a few familiar IPs with different styles. Do a 15 hrs stories of untold adventures for Hawke around Kirkwall, an agent working with Sagacious Zhu in JE world, Quarians fighting a conspiracy against launching their Arc, or Exiles fighting Angara on Kadara or whatever. Short, different, with three to four companions each, sort of like Awakening, put in prod simultaneously, and being released often. I think they must have done something like that with Origins, judging by the number of DLCs.
I want them to maintain ME, JE, DA as settings and add a steampunk IP similar to Arcanum.
They do settings well, characters well, short stories well. So, gimme that. A lot of it, and I will pick and chose.
hells, link it to a persistent companion or two that can be called upon in each game, like a dog or an Automation, if you don't like IP specific chars, and let's roll.
That's what I want. Those 100+ hours titles are too high risk if they fail.

IMO the problem is BioWare completely f-ed up with Andromeda. We had this brand new galaxy with lots of creative and narrative potential. Instead, we get the boring kett and the ridiculous, all-too-human angara. BioWare could have made some truly "alien" aliens, but opted to go with a design that players would want to bang.
If BioWare abandons Andromeda, the main issue with going back to the Milky Way is Casey Hudson and Co. basically blew up that setting with the divergent outcomes of the red, blue and green endings. Perhaps BioWare could move far enough into the future to make ME5 feasible, but the writers would have to officially disqualify the Refuse and Synthesis endings.

See, I saw something completely different from some of the fan base. They weren't ready to "move on". They were still carrying a grudge, whether from the ME3 ending or something else. Maybe if BioWare had made ME:A smaller and more linear, like the original trilogy, some people might have enjoyed it more...but most likely not. I think there was a lot of reasons why MEA did not do so well, not just not being to let go of Shepard. From extremely controversial individuals they employ to how they treat their gamers and so on. It does not matter how well they could have made the game, some people would never support it. Rightly or wrongly, they will tear the game to shreds and has rabidly done so, before and specially after the product was out and found it wanting.

With the future of Mass Effect being a bit unclear because of Mass Effect Andromeda, I started thinking about all the moments leading up to the release of MEA. I remember most fans just wanting to "move on" and eagerly leave everyone and everything we knew in the past. New stories, new characters, new adventures and a whole new setting ,while others felt the franchise should have continued somehow with Shepard. I know , MEA' s failings have less to do with its setting and more to do with a myriad other things, but I wanted to open a discussion for fans to talk about their opinions on whether the departure to a spin-off was better or worse than making an actual sequel. Yes, a sequel (ME4) would mean rewriting the endinds of ME3 and that wouldn't be feasible anyway. However, having seen and played Mass Effect Andromeda ,would anyone have preferred a ME4 with Shepard instead of what we got, afterall? Just a hypothetical question. My humble opinion is that the franchise is so rich and ripe for stories we could have gotten both. If only,Bioware had planned it better. Feel free to discuss. A Mass Effect 4 with Shepard and everybody we love could be possible. If you did the wrong choices in the suicide mission, Shepard does die at the end, so if you get this ending, you theoricaly can't play ME3. In Mass Effect 3, Shepard can survive at the end if you made the right choices & had enough war assets. ( link Shepard does lives) So yes he's alive, Bioware could start with that. But still, what kind of story can we build with that ? After all, we defeated the greatest threat possible in the Universe, Shepard becomes an even bigger fucking legend (or a Space God seems more legit in his case) and the Milky way is in a really bad shape. I think the best way to start the ME4 would be exactly where ME3 ends, Shepard get saved by the Normandy team, then everybody would celebrate like at the end of Star Wars VI and the Normandy crew would have the status of heroes of the galaxy etc. To add to the celebration, I was thinking something a bit like the begigning of the new Gears of War 4, where it shows what kind of desesperate battle normal soldiers have fought during the reapers war (like the case of human soldiers desperatly fighting on earth, or the Asari commando in huerta hospital who saw her sisters in arms being transformed into Banshee, etc.) The Normandy crew would celebrate one last time togheter because the ship itself would be converted into a museum then everybody would take their path to rebuild their homewrld. Shepard would then go live somewhere with his LI (Rannoch if with Tali, Tessia if with Liara, a tattoo artist if with Jack, etc.). The prologue of ME4 end. A few years passes, Shepard goes to take a beer with, lets say Garrus or Joker or any old friend, then something happens. Something big. The main story of ME4 would start here. What kind of threat could it be ? I totally don't know. -Maybe some Batarian pirates who have been luckilly spared by the Reapers found a way to reuse the Cerberus/Reapers technology to reactivate Reapers. Seems a bit meh. -Other Reapers who was dormant in dark space are now in attack ? Seems to easy to reuse the Reapers and seems too repetitive and unoriginal. -Maybe something that would looks like the Krogan rebelion, but with the Yahg. They would have become incredibly powerfull and now trying to dominate the galaxy. They could have some allies like the Batarians since their hate of humans would have become stronger since the humans have saved the galaxy and the Counsil would have made great gifts to humans like a siege counsil, new colonial space, etc. The Vorcha could also be with them since they seems easilly manipulated. Even maybe a faction of Krogans who still hates the Salarians & Turians. -Another possibility could be the opposite of MEA, an Alien empire from another galaxy could be coming into the Milky way and causing lots of troubles and Shepard would have to reistablish the order with the Milky way species whose quarrels would have restarted since the end of the reaper war. I think that even if Bio would restart a new trilogy with Shepard, I don't think the new sequel (storywise) would be beyond our expectations after the climax of ME2/ME3. The new game would have to introduce the new trilogy, so a bit like ME1. ME4 would be like ME1, a game that would be the pillar of the next ME5/ME6. But that does ring a bell. It's exactly what ME Andromeda is. Mass Effect Andromeda is the base of a new trilogy. This game main purposes is to put things in place for Andromeda 2/3. Like ME1, it introduce us to a new trilogy, a new story. Yes, the game have some flaws (some pretty big flaws would more correct to say) but Andromeda have open a lot of doors on how the story would go. Some new companions/allies will join the Tempest crew and they could rework on the current ones. IMHO, ME1 companions were interresting, but they really start to shine in ME2. So in MEA2 maybe Liam would developp in something interresting, or they could rework Cora a bit like they did with Ashley (plz rework the look of Cora & Peebee they look so numb). I think we should give another chance to the Andromeda trilogy, but that's my opinion. The Mass Effect fan base really are huge fanatics, almost in a religious way ( I think Indoctrinated would be the best word ). The first trilogy is untouchable, I agree. Somebody have touched our precious, and tried to add new stuff in our sacred book(ME universe here) and the community reacted to it (by reacting I mean aggresive bashing). Some people seems to take MEA flaws in a personnal way, like if somebody insulted their mother and just by saying MEA is good it feels like the community will want my head on a Spike. Let the storm pass and wait a bit. once all the fixes will be out. Also the wave of bashing seems to have exploded since Bio Mtl is relocating some ressources (not something new at all) Let's wait and hope for a future for the Mass Effect franchise and let's hope that the mistakes that were made in Andromeda be corrected fo MEA2. By bashing aggressively it doesn't feels like we will get anything, lets stay constructive. I think this is an anough big walltext, my mind is still processing for new ideas. I'll stop here for the moment.

It's more likely that people would have bitched about it not being open world, because Witcher 3 had an open world. I don't recall a lot of the MET fans calling for open world though.I know I wasn't and I love TW3. I just want it to be well....a Mass Effect game as per its title, and not something else. And the second tw3 installment HoS was only set on 1 tiny part of the world and is the most linear, but it was still extremly well received. So for a lot of people, OW is not all and be all.

Perhaps BioWare could move far enough into the future to make ME5 feasible, but the writers would have to officially disqualify the Refuse and Synthesis endings. why is so many.people caught up by the lack of 'interesting'aliens? This does not make sense. Sure i guess it would have been preferred to have sentient gas clouds but i just do not get how the whole narrative quality hinges on this one point. Especially when sci fi has been using bi pedal aliens for generations. And as far as the Kett are concerned they are really more interesting then the Reapers.

So for a lot of people, OW is not all and be all. fortunately mea is not open world.

And the second tw3 installment HoS was only set on 1 tiny part of the world and is the most linear, but it was still extremly well received. So for a lot of people, OW is not all and be all. I was not here for ME releases, but back in the good old times, every time a game came out, the most persistent comment was always: Can it be longer? It's only 30 (or 40) hours. Please, can it be 60 + ? When I came back, I was bewildered by the whole OW trend, but I assumed that this was an economically feasible response to the demand to simultaneously make the games 60+ hrs long AND beef up production costs for voice, etc.
Also, as much as I loved ME2/ME3, I felt two things:
1. In ME2: "Wow, I have recruited all these cool companions, now, to the GAME! ONWARD! Oh... wait. Over?" 2. In ME3: The Turians are fighting on Palaven! The Asari are fighting on Thessia! Wait a minute... I've actually... I dunno how I did not notice it, but I have never played on Palaven or Thessia really, before they got bombed into oblivion. The best idea on the homeworlds I have is for Quarians. Huh?
I have never played an OW, and don't really want to, but the hub structure of Andromeda did help me with both of these troubles. I had enough time to play with all the crewmates beyond their recruitment missions, and I felt familiar with the Angara territories.
I thought Elaadeen and Kadara were the biggest problem, and should have been merged in one distinctive planet with both the Exiles and Krogan, but to borrow a leaf from the W3 fans: "The Book and the Lore says "no, can't do"".

And didn't they advertise it as Open World? I was on complete radio silence cuz I wasnted to go in blind. Anyway, I was just explaining why open world is not THAT important to most people.
