I think the romance system will be better than everyone is saying, but not absolutely godly better. I think it will be similar to the romances and relationships in Dragon Age: Inquisition, with traces of special dialogue courtesy of Mass Effect 3. If they can make it feel more organic and natural and realistic, I'm all for it 100 percent.

From a GameInformer video interview:
Joe Juba: Can you get married in this game? Mac Walters: ...no, not traditionally.
Interesting that he answered it both that way and with a pause and drawn out rather than a quick simple no like he does in plenty of other questions. Maybe one of the aliens we romance has part of the romance be a thing that in their culture is equivalent to marriage or something.

Meh, given Bio's track record I'm not gonna hold my breath for anything revolutionary. Besides half the time the ones I find most interesting are unavailable...Kasumi for example.

Heh, or cultural misunderstanding: by the end of the game, Ryder discovers that they've been married to Hoophead for the entire game courtesy of one inconvenient blink.

I hope they follow through on the romances being more organic. But they seem to be saying that we'll have more romance options than ever which...worries me. I'm always concerned when resources are spread out between too many characters. A few very in-depth and well-written romances are much better than a ton of options.
That said, I REALLY hope that we have an Andromeda alien as a romance option. And that we have more than one on our squad. I just really want to get immersed in the new galaxy and learn about whole new races of alien. This was BioWare's chance to really expand Mass Effect's universe and I hope they didn't hold back. I'd honestly be fine if the entire squad was nothing but new aliens, but obviously that would never happen.

I'm personally hoping that when they say 'Organic' it translates to more natural, and meaningful. Don't get my wrong, I love my ME romances [ Garrus and occasionally Kaidan] as well as some of my favorites from the DA series. [Alistair, Dorian, Anders] But I always found myself wanting a bit ...well more and I don't necessarily mean hanky-panky time with them either. I want more interactions that flow naturally, and are fun, even if that interaction is the Main and their potential LI getting into a disagreement [ with options to either make-up later or break off or whatever] I am hoping for really well written characters, and the thing about a ton of potential squadmates/LI's is while it does offer variety, it makes me worried that the romances and friendships /rivalships will suffer because of it. I'd rather have a smaller amount of companions with more in-depth personalities and stories than a large amount with some watered down personalities and barely any real backgrounds that make them stand out. One of my absolutely favorite games had a great approch to companions..I think. Neverwinter Nights 2. Not just romance-wise either, because there wasn't a ton of romantic cutscenes, but the dialogue was often great [thanks mods!] and Bishop is and will forever be one of my favorites. But what I mean is the interactions not just with your Main, but even just among the companions. Bishop and Cas's arguements, the banter with Nesh and Khelgar, and Qara, Sands. I loved how they had moments where my character was just watching, or sometimes not even present at all. How they had relationships outside of the Main. It gave them more depth in my opinion and it's a reason why even after all these years, I still remember and adore them. So yeah, that is my hope and wish for Andromeda's romances and companions. More interactions that aren't just convo 1. 2. and 3 and then BAM! *cue fun time scene* I want to see them having mini scenes among themselves, and my girl/guy walking in on some fun banter or an argument again. Maybe have someone you've gained influence with have a cutscene with your chosen LI or even talk to you about them. More party banter and little things that make them feel deep, rather than just cool guy/girl/alien I happen to kinda like more than the others. Also having a scene or two where your main is in hot-water and LI or bestie comes to your aid, either in a dangerous position or even in some sort of 'talk' with someone else would be fun!

It would be funny of one of the squadmates had a crush on you and try to pursue you instead of the other way around Yes! This, combined with being able to RP an awkward person (when it comes to romance), would be my ideal addition to the romances! Partly because it would be a breath of fresh air compared to how it usually plays out in Bioware games, and partly because I'd find it a lot more relatable. Uh, but not the people pursuing me part. The me not doing the pursuing part I'm terrible at flirting. Anyway, I think it would be a lot of fun if we could for once play the part of The Aveline and let the squadmate's advances go completely over our heads, or respond to them in the most awkward of manners. Terrible flirt-response options might be fun, too. It doesn't have to be like this for the whole romance; as you get comfortable with them it could get easier. I like that the Inquisitor is a bit awkward during the Cullen romance, but it wasn't enough for me! Need more awkward adorkableness! Why should only the romance options get to do it and not our own characters? I want to be the Cullen/Alistair! However, the thing they have to watch out for is a squadmate being stalkerish. An easy fix would just be to have them back off when told you aren't interested. From a GameInformer video interview: Joe Juba: Can you get married in this game? Mac Walters: ...no, not traditionally. Interesting that he answered it both that way and with a pause and drawn out rather than a quick simple no like he does in plenty of other questions. Maybe one of the aliens we romance has part of the romance be a thing that in their culture is equivalent to marriage or something. I thought that was interesting, too, and wonder what it will mean if anything. I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed there won't be any marriages, though. While I didn't really expect it, I thought maybe after Trespasser... Oh well. Hoping that if they make another game with Ryder, it'll have them. The longer-term the relationship without the option, the more out-of-character it can become for your protagonist. I was also partly hoping for them as another way to show how little of a deal same-sex relationships are in the ME verse. I hope they follow through on the romances being more organic. But they seem to be saying that we'll have more romance options than ever which...worries me. I'm always concerned when resources are spread out between too many characters. A few very in-depth and well-written romances are much better than a ton of options. I mentioned this somewhere else, and I'll mention it here to possibly alleviate some of the worries you and others (and myself) might be having about the whole "quality vs. quantity" thing: I suspect they're counting their newly emphasized "flings" into their romance tally, and that's the only reason it has more "romances" than any other Bioware game. Assuming those flings have much less content than the standard long-term ones, it would be consistent with Bioware implying even doing DA:I's 8 was tiresome. It would be very odd to say that then go ahead and do even more. So I expect we're going to get the standard 2/2/2 with additional flings. Even if there are only 3, that's 9 "romances" - 1 more than DA:I. While more options does increase the chances that I'll actually like one of them, it would probably lower content for all of them, which would suck.

I would like it if they focused more on actual intimate connection between the player and the character they decide to romance. I don't care about sex scenes. I'd actually like it more if they spent more time on natural dialogue between the player and the romanced character. With BW it's been the same formula when it comes to romance and I never felt the sense of closeness between the player and the romanced character. It has always been speak to them nicely until sex scene, then romance is barely mentioned or forgotten until possible DLC where they may add a bit more dialogue.
Inquisition was no different. The only game I felt that got romance right is the Witcher. The chemistry the character's have is brilliant. There was actual movement during dialogue, character's didn't just stand 2 feet away from one another and speak. They moved around Touched each other and expressed a variety of emotion. And even when you where on missions with either Triss or Yen there was a bit of flirting here and there; it didn't feel like a one way street. It felt real, and that is something BW could never do. Their romances just don't feel real, so I tend to not bother with them. The best I've seen was Jack, and only because her background story sort of helped the romance out, given it was heartbreaking.
What I want is more natural feeling romance where there's more to it other than a sex scene at the end of the road. They said they're working on doing this, but the same was said for Inquisition and nothing changed. Speak nicely to a character for a while, while standing 2 feet from them, they slyly ask: are you interested in me, you reply: yes, then sex scene. Same formula over and over. So I doubt anything major will happen. They'll probably just add more romance quest, meh... who knows.

Actually Garruses romance for me in ME3 felt pretty natural and organic. In that sense it's best Bioware romance for me. I felt like my character and Garrus were in whole mess together, suffering both for Earth and Palaven, trying beat reapers together and comforting each other. Somehow that just clicked for me, he and my Shepard were both best friends and lovers at that point.
ME2's Garrus romance was awkward as fuck, but I liked how it developed to ME3 and through ME3.

I'm fine with romances as they're (well, the idea of the sex scene as a reward in the end of the game in ME was silly and sex scenes in Origins were ridiculous, IMO). More content would always be welcome, but as it always is welcome when it comes to companions... Some details would make them better too, but I don't think I need more than we already have... I just want interesting LI options and well written dialogues, which, personally, I always found in Dragon Age but I never found in ME (even if I agree that Garrus in ME3 comes close and lately I've been picking him instead of Kaidan, for me it's hard to get over his romance arc in ME2 which I too find awfully awkward ) I admit it might be a matter of personal taste and nothing else... So, just hoping to find one interesting option this time I really care about romances, I like the love story on the side of the war/adventure main story, kind of get me more emotionally attached and I feel it adds depth to the character, and I've always missed not having one for Shepard that I acually enjoy
