...Focusing on that last sentence, a lot of the people who believe that EA is still interested in supporting more ME games likes to point to the fact that both EA and Bioware has not officially came out to confirm (or deny) that Mass Effect is put on ice due to the poor reception that MEA took along with the lower than expected review scores. However, if we try to wait for EA to confirm this, are we just waiting for something that will never come?... Even if poor reception and low scores were the reasons that MEA was put on ice. EA/Bioware will never admit it, they're not (that) stupid. Admiting it would be like saying: "Yes the game sucks so much that we'll put the whole series on hold, so with time people will hopefully forget it (MEA) ever happened".

I'm not sure there's much to even announce.
Sometimes games go ten or more years between sequels. Even if there aren't any plans for more games, there wouldn't be any point in announcing that the series was "over." Someone could always decide to make a sequel later on.
Besides, isn't the rule of thumb that series that immediately begin working on their next sequel at the conclusion of the last tend to experience diminishing story quality? The technology and design in CoD games goes up and down, but most people don't find the campaigns as memorable as the first couple of games. Assassin's Creed became repetitive to a fault (Black Flag excepted) but stepping away from development for a while before going back looks to have inspired them to try something genuinely new again.
My guess is there won't be a formal announcement, and one probably wouldn't make much sense (at least not for any other VG company.)
