It's almost like you didn't even read his post... If you can't even handle the mere possibility of Andromeda being put out to pasture... Next few months/years are gonna be rough. If you can't even handle the mere possibility of Andromeda being a success with DLC on the way... Next few months/years are gonna be rough. I guess if we're talking about Internet Dignity (which is 10 points to every 1 point IRL Dignity), but if you're a big naysayer from the start, you benefit either way, since you either get a good product, or I-Told-You-So privileges.

Except SWTOR continues from KOTOR and when being made was refered by the developers as being KOTOR 3 - 8. It ties up loose story ends as well and is still having content produced for it. While some people may want a single player game, the IP is still being used. It's not really "dead" as it where, just evolved as something else. (Note: if MMOs aren't your thing, it's fully possible to play SWTOR without doing any group content, if you just wanna see the story. Bioware rejigged it two (?) years ago so that exp rates where adjusted (a lot less grindy), heroics and any major story flashpoints solable etc.) I've played SWTOR from time to time over the years but SWTOR while being made by bioware is still Star Wars which means it is still needs Disney's blessing. It's not like DA and ME which are 100 percent under EA and Bioware's jurisdiction. Yeah that's true, Disney gets the final veto on everything about it. Just meant that KOTOR keeps being referred to as dead throughout this thread when there's still a continuation of that IP being currently worked on. Again, however I don't think ME is dead. From all reports MEA still made money and it's waaaaaaay too early to freak out about DLC not being announced considering Bioware's last game, DAI, which had the developer's most successful launch, didn't get DLC announced til 5 months after launch. And I would take the Kotaku article with a pinch of salt. The original article had to be reedited because of false information, and the idea that Bioware was planning to start producing the next game right away sounds absurd to me. Like, how can they take into consideration feedback from the previous game, if they've already ploughed straight ahead into the next one? It takes time for the majority of players to finish what is a 100 hour game and give their complaints/praise. It takes even longer to collect this and learn from it. They didn't rush in to making the next Dragon Age game right away, I don't know why they would do it with Mass Effect either.

I think some of them have built up a "rep" with their online buddies. Most of us here are refugees from the old bsn and we all remember the different cliques that formed over there and some of them can't let their online friends see them not being "edgy badasses".

I don't understand why they're being so tight lipped about the DLC. Now that the rumor is out there, they do risk people just moving on to something else. I remember after DA2 came out, and had its less than optimal reception we'll say. They put out some screenshots that showed some of the areas in Legacy, and said more details coming at a later date. Started a new conversations because so many people were mad about the reused areas. That's why I don't think they'll be another ME game five years from now like some people are saying. If the reception for this game wasn't great to the point where you wanted to keep going while the iron was hot, why would they think people would flock back five years from now. I doesn't make any sense. The entirety of the OT was out in five years. Or like DA:O, they couldn't get DLC and an expansion out fast enough, they were coming out once a month almost, and DA2 got put out quickly just to capitalize on the popularity of the game. They can't take a five year hiatus on the franchise at this point and think the next game will be successful. Thing is, assuming that either an announcement or silence doesn't affect their own schedule to any release of DLC, people will still move on to other things while they wait. If they announce the DLC at the last minute, I doubt the people who actually like the game enough to buy DLC in the first place are going to not buy it just because the announcement came later than they might like. I'm just saying that it would change the narrative. Like I said in my other post after the reception DA2 got they just put out a few screenshots, a couple of the new areas and one that hinted there may be Grey Warden involvement. Then that's what people started talking about, instead of just reused areas, the game being rushed, etc. I hated DA2, but because I still wanted to give it a chance, when I saw the screens I said, oh, Bioware is listening, they've added some new areas, maybe they'll fix this wave combat too. I kept an ear to the forums just to get updates, and I actually bought Legacy. It ultimately didn't inspire to play the game again, and I didn't get Assassin, but at the time, when there was a lot of negativity around the game, and just something as little as a few screen caps changed the narrative. Had they not done that I would have uninstalled, just dropped the game completely and probably would not have come back when the DLC was actually released. If they released some screens of a new planet, or even something on an existing planet as well. People would start talking about it. Is this the Quarians golden world, that looks like Kadara, are we going to get to resolve the Sloane/Reyes conflict. People would have something else to talk about and really look forward too. If they've actually been working on DLC they have something they can tease.

Its all good. I figured that I was going to get a bunch of, "but MEA is not dead!" post even though I made it clear in the OP that this isnt about debating if MEA is dead or not but rather a hypothetical situation IF MEA is dead, would we learn of this from EA/Bioware or will it be like KOTOR 3 and Jade Empire 2 where we most likely wont get those games, but Bioware will never admit it because they want to keep the door open for "just in case" scenarios. This is off topic but unlike the other games they have made KOTOR was never bioware's own IP they just had permission to make it from the owner's of the IP which was Lucas Arts at the time. Now that Disney owns Star Wars they probably get the final say and what Star Wars games are made EA is just licensed to make those games they don't get the final say so in whether or not they are made. Well, to be even more detailed, KOTOR3 scenario and story-line was adopted for SWTOR, a massive game that is available for the last five years and delivers as much SW-themed BioWare experience as one could handle in TOR setting. One can talk about discontinuation of JE setting, but TOR one is still releasing content. It might be in a slightly different format of delivery, but it is in no way a discontinued IP. I wielded blasters and lightsabres to my heart's content for 3 years in TOR, getting way more out of it than I could ever had hoped to get from kotor3.

Shepard's story is done. Why make an old game when you can make a new one. Because they failed at making a new one? Gotta build up that good will - only Shepard can save Mass Effect!

It's bad businness if they declare Mass Effect dead. Even with all the negativity, it is still a very strong name amongst the gaming community Good point. I even read where someone mentioned that half of the Bioware store is ME related stuff and if EA came out and said that MEA is dead, that could effect sales in a negative way.

The launch went poorly, they need to have a better one with the next installment. Shepard is as done as the Hero of Ferelden.
