VGChartz isn't perfect and had made mistakes in past, especially today when they lack digital sales numbers. Physical copies are not as "hot" as they used to be. And NPD has NO reliable method to reveal digital sales numbers, they are quite frankly shooting in the dark. And the fact they can't replicate that for PC digital sales, just shows how their method for counting digital sales is flawed. Also if in case you are correct, somehow NPD has very accurate digital sales numbers, then why the hell EA doesn't admit ME:A sales are poor and disappointing? Instead EA says the opposite, that they are happy with BioWare with ME:A. Lying to investors about poor sales is a way to lose investors, as well it goes strongly against EA's historic precedent where they always publicly admit when a game is a failure or disappointment. Yet they don't do that, while apparently there are public numbers that "prove" ME:A sold badly. You are putting way too much faith on those sites, whom no longer have reliable methods to count sales numbers years ago, and making up conspiracy theory that EA is lying to public and investors for no real good reasons and which will backfire hard on them if they did lied. Who actually buys (new) physical copies of games in 2017? All I can think of: (1) someone living in an unusually remote location with spotty/slow internet service; (2) collectors; (3) grandma is buying you a Xmas present. Huh, thanks "warrior". I bought a physical copy since it's nice. I have a shelf for my books and game discs. For BioWare games I have a special box, they're pretty important stuff for me and will follow me for years to come.

For BioWare games I have a special box, they're pretty important stuff for me and will follow me for years to come. Do not forget a lot of people wanted to play the (first part of the) game before the official release. That was only possible if you bought the digital version. Also - take in account that the "physical" boxes did not contain any DVD or blue-ray discs, but only a serial number and a paper how to obtain and install the Origin client. So - You only got a DVD case with a piece of paper in it. That's all. Thus - It does not make much sense to buy that "physical" copy, even if you have a bad internet connection. You had to download the game anyway. I think the majority of people (about 80% to 90%) has bought the game using the EA/Origin website/Client, so the "unknown" number of buyers (because those numbers are not known publicly) can be very high indeed. Unless EA/Bioware will publish this numbers, nobody knows how many digital copy's are sold. But one thing is for certain - It's without any doubt a really huge lot more than the physical copy's sold.

Thats the thing, there won't be an official statement. If there isn't DLC, then EA/Bioware is better of by just staying silent and hoping MEA fades away to the realm where Jade Empire resides. Also, Bioware is banking on bringing in a new demographic/player base with Anthem. They know they will lose fans with Anthem, but they know that whatever they lose, the will gain back 2x or 3x more with Anthem, which appeals to a broader audience than a Dragon Age or Mass Effect. Bioware has been salivating at this since ME2 and now they are going for the knockout with their "Destiny Killer". But yeah, if you are waiting on some official statement from EA or Bioware, then you will be disappointed. Funny how I get accused posting "troll" comments when I agree, I do at times. But your response really exemplifies that "trolling" occurs on both sides of the fence. In my post I just explained how I believe that if there isn't DLC, Bioware most likely will not announce it and explained (in my view) why Anthem is so important to them. I wasn't trolling, but just trying to explain my ideas as clearly as possible. Yet your reply just goes to show that immaturity is not exclusive to those who dislike MEA.

For BioWare games I have a special box, they're pretty important stuff for me and will follow me for years to come. Hmm ok. I didn't mean any offense. I'm just trying to figure out what % more digital copies sold we could reasonably expect in an era when so much is done online, and companies like GameStop have seen a major decline in people visiting their brick and mortar stores. Since people in this thread keep pointing out to Sudo that we don't have digital sales numbers, which should be much greater if these trends apply. Maybe it would be clearer if I changed #2 to "collectors and megafans" or something like that -- because that's pretty much what I meant. I love BioWare games enough to be here -- even enough to have read fanfic in the past, to own an N7 hoodie -- but I don't have a special box for their games or feel any sentimental need to have the actual object in my home.

Not speaking for everyone, but many people are really fed up. Sick of trolls, fake companies, lying journalists and incorrect facts being used as facts and proof. People are sick of being told to get over it and deal with the fact that something they love might not continue. People couldn't give a shit anymore about the minority who dislikes MEA and wants it to fail. People are done with the mind games.
As for the whole Jason thing, it was not venom spewed at him because we want him proven wrong, but because we had just dealt with SN and he broke the final straw.
Everyone just needs to take a break from this and focus on other things.
We'll know when we know.

You need to learn how statistics works. If someone did a survey with a sample size of 113 thousand people it would actually be representative enough to allow for a margin of error +/- 5%. Now I haven't seen the survey in question but I know that surveying 113 thousand people is some serious work being put in. That being said, where's the survey so I can read it? arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/06/xbox-unleashed-our-deep-dive-study-of-how-millions-use-xbox-live/4/Check the list of 144 Xbox games ahead of Andromeda in the sample. Using that survey as a template for extrapolating sales is laughable. XB1 has sold 26 million units over it's lifetime. Extrapolate that to the % from the Ars chart and get back to me. I'll wait. FYI, this is all the response you're getting from me on BioFan's thread. I'm not going to crap up his thread any longer. Want to play? Come to the Kotaku DLC thread.

Okay, I've just read EA's fiscal report in it's entirety. As an accountant I am fairly fluent in "Board Speak", and understand the numbers as presented. EA is doing well in general and they are happy with Bioware's fiscal performance. In reference to the new IP and MEA, Anthem was delayed due to quality issues and not because MEA tanked. The fact that EA mentioned exciting things for MEA makes me think that there is indeed a DLC in the works. They wouldn't bring up potential excitement at a board meeting unless something was being developed. No one wants to disappoint the board as they decide the fiscal future for a companies projects. This is my take on the meeting transcript. If there are other accountants out there that have a different perspective I would be totally interested in what you got from the transcripts and how you came to your conclusions. Yes, I am totally geeking out on accounting.

Fuck me, you are thick. Try reading the article you linked to which only publishes stats for the xbone up to February, before ME:A came out. The other stats are for the 360, which ME:A didn't come out on. Now I am convinced you are Jason. How are your secret sources at Sinclair Networks getting on? ...Scroll down.

One other thing to consider is they may just be waiting for all of the pieces to be in place before they can announce anything. The comic series, the APEX mission storyline and the new book all seem to be building up a narrative for the mystery of the Keelah Si'yah. It's very possible that marketing have told them to wait until the build up is finished before the big reveal...

You are correct, and in the spirit of your kotaku articles I have edited my post. I should have read it further, but I was being nagged by my two year old at the time to watch her push chairs across the floor. No excuses though, I need to be more careful with my source material. So I apologise for calling you thick. Speaking of which, 113,000 is a pretty good sample rate for a survey. With at least 26,000,000 million xbones sold, you can easily extrapolate that to approximately 1.3million units on the xbone alone. Not bad for a poorly selling failed game eh.

Who knows, maybe they did over the lifetime, as opposed to two months. But Yes, is does imply for example that COD sold 12million on xbone, which is possible. See, you can do grown up conversations.

Who actually buys (new) physical copies of games in 2017? All I can think of: (1) someone living in an unusually remote location with spotty/slow internet service; (2) collectors; (3) grandma is buying you a Xmas present. Um, me. I do. I don't consider myself a collector since I don't purchase Collector's Edition or leave copies shrink-wrapped. I just prefer still having a physical disc in my hand of games I highly anticipate for my current console of choice (I have no issue doing digital-only on older games, like Steam sales). I also enjoy the anticipation of going to the midnight release and coming home with my precious little disc ready to go. But I'm also someone who prefers physical books made from dead trees rather than digital reads on Kindle. I might be the oldest-fashioned 32-year-old I know. Now, get off my lawn. I do as well! *sets up lawn chair* I put in a bazillion hours covering a game, so I want a physical case and disk to commemorate all that hard work.

I believe I read that EA and the SAG-AFTRA had come to an agreement regarding an extension for existing contracts prior to the strike. Now after Andromeda and any other content is done? Well, that will probably be a different story.

Um, me. (5) a subset of people who still prefer to have physical copies of things AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT

Does anyone remember the voice actor strike that started back in October last year? Does anyone know if any of the VAs for Andromeda are part of a union? Yes. Tom Taylorson for one... indicates on his website that he is a member of SAG-AFTRA (source: www.tomtaylorson.com/)There are likely many of them that worked on ME:A that are members of the union. Jennifer Hale has been a prominent voice on behalf of the union during this strike.
