The combat and the combat animation in particular in DAO hasn't aged well, it's slow, clunky, and boring. It's damn near impossible to lock on to a certain villain and not having the PC run the other way, the other characters just run all over the place, the mages suck if they're not casting spells then they're just hurling magic balls and it looks stupid also the mages look like they can just barely hold a staff even characters like Morrigan and the PC.
The combat and the combat animation in particular in DA2 is over-the-top and is way too fast and can be hard to follow, but it does have a "think on your feet" style of combat over "plan every last detail" style which makes even quick and small battles long and dull. The "think on your feet" style does work for DA2 due to Hawke getting into random street fights than military battles. The mages here are a lot of fun to play the staffs look like actual weapons and not glorified magic rifles, Anders kills a darkspawn with just a staff no magic and the spells are visually stunning. It's at time moves way too fast and can be hard on the eyes.
The combat and the combat animation in particular in DAI is the best attempt to mash up the styles of DAO and DA2 and is the best in the series to date.

Personally, I miss DA2's fast animation for rogues and warriors. In DAI they swing and stab so slowly that it looks clumsy and boring. Never had an issue with locking onto enemies in DAO, though I understand if anyone considers it a chore to do it manually. The graphics were good enough to me. I never needed it to look like RDR2 or anything like that.

This thread was an interesting 5 year rabbit hole. Consumed over several hours yesterday and today.
Combat can be JoaT. That is a viable and possible build.
Combat cannot be MoaT. That was MEA, which was a bad idea in ny opinion. It is an impossible build, there are not enough points in the world for one person to be so OP. It is "viable" because it shouldn't exist.
So, a little tweak to the OP is needed for me to be on-board, but I understand the cut of their jib.
I did see a lot of mansplanation going on from one member, and got called out for it by multiple members, with receipts in hand. I laughed, nothing more to say really.

Well; going by the guns or at least what might be "high tech" crossbows, I have to imagine that the Mass Effect Series might have a bigger impact for design.
Various other games like Witcher, at least for world space building are probably going to have an effect.
Considering they are apparently going farther away from tactical and embracing action with things like "blocking and parrying".......I have to wonder if different classes will more or less end up with distinctly different kinds of games.
Rogues' get a game that's either Assassin's Creed or Dishonored/Thief. Bow users get some kind of FPS with close combat elements. Warriors get DmC.....and so forth.
If Companions take a step back; wonder if that means if Pets and/or summons take a step up? Perhaps Companions become more story or resource focused?
Edit:
Considering the sea motif, I wonder how water or boat based the combat might be, well that and the odds of a Jack Sparrow reference popping up is probably pretty good.
