Forbes dances around it but its back to the old issue raised by MrBtongue in this vid so many years ago:
Basically one company that wants to make money so they can make great games, versus a company that makes games so they can make money. Its also an issue with these conglomerants like EA: One of them strikes gold with an idea and the others rush to copy it with a single minded purpose. TW3's open world success made other companies chase the same concepts and buzzwords instead of playing to their strengths. When World of Warcraft was a success story people were rushing to make the next WoW. Monetizing from MP games is huge now and everyone is chasing that. Its like it says in the vids, execs in publically traded companies in EA spend a lot of time worrying.

and don't forget the Quarian ark. The Quarian Ark didn't bother me half as much. Why? It wasn't a quest but more or less an epilogue. Garsson and the benefactor are quests that leave you on the road to nowhere. They're about the only side quests that aren't fetch and carry and really spin an intriguing tale. Which makes it even more bothersome that there is no resolving them. Oh i'm in agreement. I just think for a sequel, the jumpoff point could be finding and rescuing the quarian ark. elements of the garsson murder and who the benefactor is could be interwoven with this. Or not. independently those loose ends need to be explored.

That article in Forbes is an embarrassment and has no place in a business focused magazine. It's an editorial at best, and a lame one at that.
The author writes:
Speculation. Conjecture. Opinion.
Give me facts.
More to the point, give me numbers. $$$. This is *Forbes* for goodness sake, not your personal soapbox.
Oh. I forgot. It's 2017. Actual journalism has been dead for a decade, at least.

Yikes. This article comes across more like a rage post on BSN than a credible op-ed piece on a reputable publishing site. It's not as if single player DLC was never being considered for Andromeda. It's clear it was cancelled for what should be obvious reasons given Andromeda's poor reception.

It seems pretty direct when it states... Nothing in this statement makes me feel like the dlc was canceled due to poor reception. The fact is it never had dlc (in the traditional sense) planned from what we've seen or heard of so far.

It's an opinion piece written by an unpaid contributor. Not an op-ed, or an in-depth study of the financials of a computer game, but, by design, someone's soapbox to stand on and push their own opinions.

Every BioWare game since KOTOR 1 (the only exception is JE) has had some sort of DLC content. If you are truly gullible enough to believe Andromeda was never planning to have story DLC (every Mass Effect game has had story DLC), that is your prerogative. Even the ending of Andromeda made it rather clear BioWare Montreal was hoping to do story DLC. That didn't happen, which is why the comics/novels were delayed in order to tell the story of the quarian ark instead.

That statement is the worst type of damage control possible if that's what it is...damage control. It would mean that Bioware new from the get go that they had NO intention of releasing any SP dlc but still led everyone on as if they were. Not exactly a good damage control. I assume you must have some inside sources right? Any other time people would be drooling over an official response. This whole thing pretty much reads like a fucking break up letter. Maybe that's why your in denial...

It would mean that Bioware new from the get go that they had NO intention of releasing any SP dlc but still led everyone on as if they were. Not exactly a good damage control. They didn't. There was only the internet brigade smelling DLC hints in every wind blowing their way. They never said anything along the lines of something being worked on, other than ppatches. I'm not a fan of corporations, but if someone believed to read hints, it's on them and not on the company that did nothing other than publishing their usual noncommital PR nonsense. You're right in one thing. The statement is bad in terms of damage control. And as I said before, there's actually no obvious reason why they published anything instead of just sitting it out.

Its pure conjecture at this point from both sides of the discussion. Until we get some "inside sources" talking about either one of us could be right. I figured had they been close to releasing the dlc we would have seen it data mined at this point like all previous titles of DA and ME.

Maybe that's why your in denial... It's not meant to be an insult. It's merely an observation for the simple fact that BioWare has offered DLC in their games since 2003. BioWare did not know they weren't going to do single player DLC. The game did not meet its "3 million units sold after a week" expectation, and bugs and glitches railroaded post-release content to be entirely focused on fixing the game. The game was a financial disappointment, which is why any single player DLC plans were scrapped.

I am just so so sad right now Dragon Age 2 is one of my favorite games so I was hoping that we would get some really good sp-dlc to round out the game. I am one of those who really enjoyed ME:A. Oh well, that is how it goes. I played SWTOR late BETA, the game was great for me because I loved the original stories in the first chapters. Then they stopped with the original stories and that was it. Tried the newer content but it wasn't for me. I won't buy Anthem, I don't want to play multiplayer anymore. Guess that leaves me Dragon Age and Sims 4. I am really really sad, but at least I still have my games at home. I will continue to play Mass Effect 2 Mass Effect 3 Mass Effect Andromeda Dragon Age 2 Dragon Age Inquisition Sims 4 Feel so so silly right now but I actually have tears running down my face now. I really wanted to see more of Mass Effect Andromeda. Haven't found any other game that gets to me like the BioWare games, I want my adventure with a love story and playing as a female character. We will see what is out there.

In fact I remember some folks at Rockstar talking about how people weren't buying "The Lost and the Damned" or "The Ballad of Gay Tony" DLC for GTA IV and it's part of the reason why GTA V isn't getting singleplayer DLC. However Take Two has been pretty vocal about how much cash they make off of GTA Online and it's pretty obvious that they're going to milk it for all it's worth.

It's been my experience that people who whine about video games in a forum don't have much to contribute in the real world. And yet, here you are. Iakus, you' ve been crying at bioware since mass effect 2, why do you do this to yourself? Go outside, it won't hurt you.

I will go out on a limb and do something I really didn't see myself saying. My gut instinct tells me that Casey Hudson is going to pull something out of his hat with ME down the road. Don't know why, exactly, but that's it.

I was not overly thrilled with MEA, but I suspect that Mr. Hudson's return and the timing of said return has something specifically to do with the future of the ME franchise. If I am incorrect, so be it, time will tell.
