Not surprising, they probably had to re-write/add parts of the book to cover what would have been fleshed out in DLC. It was probably meant to accompany the Quarian Ark DLC originally, but now it has to cover everything.

If they are actually adding content to the book, I'd be very surprised. They commissioned reasonably well-known, award-winning SF/Fantasy authors to write these novels, and I would think asking Catherynne M. Valente to go back and write more would require some sort of additional financial investment. I would've just published the novel as is and got it over with, if the intent is indeed to wrap up ME:A and never speak of it again.

Eh, even the drell jumped on Ark? Sure they did bring everyone for the ride. Yeah, they were confirmed ingame, along with hanar, elcor, volus and quarians. Oddly, the blog neglects to mention volus and hanar but does mention batarians, so no-one knows who the hell is going on the boat

So basically a confirmation that quarian DLC was a thing until EA axed it... Goddammit, EA, you greedy cunts. Don't get me wrong, I am greatful that this story will be told thanks to this author, but I wanted to play it, not read it. EA is surely the reason that there was no DLC... as If I needed anymore reason to hate that shitstain of a company.

It was probably meant to accompany the Quarian Ark DLC originally, but now it has to cover everything. The book plot sound like it shows what the Quarian Ark went through that caused its pathfinder to send the message you get at the end of MEA. It's no different than the Uprising novel being about what happened to the Nexus prior to the game starting. A cancelled DLC (that going by the devs never existed anyway) wouldn't have changed the a plot that happens prior to any possible DLCs timewise.

Elements of it was ingame, in preparation for being added to. There are numerous MP bits and pieces as well that never got added but were obviously included as strings in preparation for implementation. So any claims that they were never making DLC is total bollocks.

If they pushed the release back almost a year, something is being re-written or added. If the book was written in the way it was intended to be from the start, they wouldn't need almost another year to get it ready for release.

Given their enormous, GTA 5-level expectations for an niche RPG, probably not enough money.

Books are fine and good when they don't replace what should have been in game content. I probably won't buy the book. I will read a plot synopsis online eventually but I am not going to buy a book letting them know it was ok to shelve dlc.

I'm not up to date with the current information about the future of the MEA franchise at this point, so I'm curious to understand WHY the unreleased novels are still being worked on. What's the point/purpose of publishing these novels?

What's the point/purpose of publishing these novels? 1) Planned prior to game release. 2) Just like any novel released in the ME universe, the books add a little backstory/lore. "Nexus Uprising" told the story how we got exiles in MEA, "Mass Effect Initiation" will likely give us more background story on the Andromeda Initiative and "Mass Effect Annihilation" tells the story what the other Milky Way races got through when arriving in Heleus and why we don't see them in game.

I am always down with books that give us background information but the third one let's be honest is replacing a dlc. Books should never take the place of in game content.

No it isn't replacing a DLC and very likely won't tell any cut game content. It had the working title "The Missing Ark" well back in October 2016 before the official announcement of the books. The DLC (if a Quarian DLC was planned) would've been a story of our pathfinder probably meeting and having an adventure with the Quarians, while the book likely will deal with the Quarian Pathfinder as one of the protagonists. Of course I have no idea how the book plays out, but I can't see any reason why the story of what the Quarians experience first when arriving in Heleus should change from what they had planned. So IMO there is no reason to be upset about this particular book.

The logic is mind-boggling, who's going to bother reading a novel for a game's who's support got cut almost a year prior? Sure there are die-hard fans out there, but they're not anywhere near enough of them to make the novel profitable, especially after they've alienated so much of their fanbase by cutting support for Andromeda so quickly.
At this point I don't even a see a clear way up for Mass Effect anymore, a single DLC for Andromeda might have been the perfect way for the series to avenge itself in the face Andromeda's critical response, books and comics just aren't going to cut it.
