Never played Destiny, only interested from sideline:
What kind are the powers? Is it just grenades and weapon related or is there unique stuff like making things fly.
How is melee?
How do charcters work? Do you level one at a time and have slots for additional classes?

I know the trial is on Xbox and PS4, don't know about PC. The combat is very smooth, and you're using soft cover (or running/gunning). Melee (so far) is just a single push-away hit (bumper). At level 7 the game hasn't asked me to team up with anyone yet, so I haven't... It's mostly shooting it seems as the powers (grenades / shocks) seem to have very long cooldowns, though that might be because I'm low level. (now if Anthem draws from the good parts of Destiny, that might be interesting.)

How do charcters work? Do you level one at a time and have slots for additional classes? Mostly grenades and melee variations on the powers. It get gets a little more interesting in Destiny 2, where warlocks can lay down a AOE buff and Titans can create cover. Hunters can dodge. Melee is pretty simple, Titans punch, Hunters have a knife, Warlocks have the vast melee because it has the most range. There are also swords. You have three character slots, one for each class if you want. You level the one you're playing as.

I love it. I admit bias, I have >1400 h in D1. Thought I would lament the loss if my OHK shoulder charge but I am adapting. Better story than MEA. So what if its short? I find it exciting, funny and engaging. Looks and sounds beautiful. The guns are punchy. Only thing I miss atm is 6v6. 😊 Short as it was, I love the story too, especially the Almighty mission and subsequent endgame battle. Of course, I think much of its impact has to do with my countless hours spent since D1's beta and getting super hooked on the whole thing. I dislike the loss of the OHK shoulder charge, but the thing I lament the most is the loss of the guaranteed kill sticky grenades. It was so satisfying to peek through a doorway, toss a grenade, hear that little magnetize click and get that satisfying ping of a kill XD. Now I gotta work for it! I will say though that the charged sprinting melee is a really nice teamwork tool. I love popping out of nowhere to polish off weakened enemies with that shield bash. Loss of 6v6 has me a pinch salty too. I was so accustomed to my bigger group, but more than that, I actually had a core group of 6 people that I would get into a match with on a regular basis. Well, there's always the raid, which I can't wait to finish. So far though I've been making this a regular fix after work and it hasn't lost any real momentum for me, partly because the adventures littered about the worlds are immensely better than the simple patrols.

I equipped a legendary void paragon mod to my titan's chest piece and noticed a shorter delay. Thing I don't like though is that once you use it, it's tied inextricably to that piece of armor, so unless it's a mod you have a bunch of, I'd be wary of committing mods to any armor that you don't think you'll keep for very long.

Dunemarchers were my go to exotic in D1, that fast, tight turn to double back and shoulder-charge in pvp was glorious. But the arc damage chain perk on the new ones is really good for CC in PVE, I have yet to try them in pvp. I'm not really ready for a raid yet, even though I have the light level. I am still enjoying end game stuff. So much to explore, so much is hidden away. I don't quite get the people who are doing EVERYthing RIGHT NOW ASAP!. The game isn't going anywhere, you know it's going to be a grind. So take your time and enjoy the scenery is my way of looking at it. (Especially when the detail they've put into the environments is so good.) Get your moneys worth I mean, in D1 we used to spend an hour or so messing about in the bar with the jukebox, dancing with emotes etc, or doing comedy ragdoll deaths off the tower. Even last night we spent almost as long just running around the new tower, playing football, pretending to serve Ramen in the bazaar, just goofing around really I am enjoying the Strikes. They seem longer, a bit more epic (probably due to the music) and I love the way they have used elements from past raids (e.g. slam-dunking and carrying balls) to mix it up with different objectives. They are like mini-raids. The main thing I don't like is that you can't see your fireteam on the map, and if the fireteam leader fast travels to another area your pals are left stranded. It's easy to get separated and lost. People are also complaining about the shader system, but I've got so many I don't know what to do with them.

I was spoiled by the Dunemarchers, especially as a MIDA runner. I was stoked to get it back in D2, since I now have the MIDA mini and multi together to add more speed. I guess it helps that it's probably the best looking titan greaves in the game, in my opinion anyway. It's new chain damage perk is fantastic in PvE. It's OK in PvP, but it's a small bonus and I still get to zap people a bit so it's all good. I love the details of the new tower especially, particularly those where the normal civilian NPC's are roaming about. Even if there's not a whole lot of actual activities, the actual makeup of it all is a vast improvement over the previous version. I guess the Cabal assault was a blessing in disguise. I also enjoy the little secret meeting room thing they added over the hangar that you access by doing the floor is lava challenge.

Played through most of the raid before some people on my team had to go to sleep. It's pretty good so far, very visually impressive and absolutely requires everyone to communicate, moreso than any raid in D1. That said, I do worry that the raid will not age as well as the D1 raids did, since this one focuses way more on mechanics and puzzles than actually killing bosses. That could get old very quickly. I know the trial is on Xbox and PS4, don't know about PC. The combat is very smooth, and you're using soft cover (or running/gunning). Melee (so far) is just a single push-away hit (bumper). It seems that in 2 they dissipate not long after they're formed. I was reading the guide for the raid, and this was something I was concerned about. It definitely seems like an even bigger puzzle game than the previous raids, which I have to say is kinda disappointing. That said, raids are something I do so seldom (time constraints and getting 6 people to cooperate long enough to complete it) that I'm fairly alright with it, but I suspect the Vault of Glass will remain my favorite, though I did like Wrath of the Machine too.

Just finished Nightfall... damn, that took a couple of tries until you figured out the best way to do it! The timer stressed me out a bit, and made me do some stupid mistakes, but I can see why they added it. Sadly, the loot was just okay... better luck next time!

I really like my character's current armor, it has a nice mix of both sci-fi and fantasy elements. The purple I tinted it with makes it look really regal too!

I won't touch my warlock until I'v finished leveling up my titan's power. I'm fond of my titan's so far, though I need those noble constant gauntlets Ikora gives you. But I did get the raid shaders so it's all coming together now.

Yeah, in a way. One of the most apt descriptions I've seen was "It's Destiny but without all the bullshit", in the sense that Bungie addressed a lot of criticisms they received from the first game. The narrative presents a compelling antagonist and all the main campaign missions lead to the final confrontation in a fairly natural manner, the planets actually have stuff to do on them once you finish the campaign, and the strikes are interesting and relatively impressive compared to the previous game. There's more to it than that, but these are the three biggest things that stick out to me. That said, they did manage to introduce new flavors of bullshit, although they're more along the lines of minor annoyances than compromising flaws. You can't select a specific strike to play, you have to go into the playlist and wait for it to come up in the rotation. Same goes for PVP, you can't select a specific game mode, you have to go into the general playlist and wait for it to come up. The Vault, which players can use to store items and consumables that they don't have room for on their characters (and the Vault is shared between all characters on your account, so you can use it to move stuff from one to another) got a pretty strange downgrade, they removed the separate tabs for weapons/armor/miscellaneous items and now it's all one tab - while also reducing the maximum capacity. The cosmetic shaders are now consumable items, and have to be applied to each piece of gear individually, so if you don't have at least 5 units of a shader, you won't be able to apply it to every piece of your armor (in Destiny 1, all you had to do was select a shader and it would automatically apply to everything, and they were permanent items that could be swapped for free at any time without losing them). You can't buy high-level gear from vendors anymore, you have to rely on the randomized contents of rank-up packages and hope you get what you want.

They destroyed trials and raiding in this game 😡 This will indeed shorten my time with the game plus my hope for destiny to be this great franchise that I expected is just gone.
Love AJS review, I can honestly see it being a 5-6 rated game as it's nothing special. Most definitely agree on his point in how much Bungie has changed cause they're unrecognizable now.

I've had that problem, but only if I quit the game before finishing the quest It once happened when I went to orbit, but the most ridiculous time was when I did a quest with my friends and they got the plot-loot and I got nothing. We had started the quest together, I got the same instructions as they did, but for some reason the game decided I had "left" (I didn't even die during that quest). Had to redo the whole thing all alone, which was super frustrating.

Joe tends to be a bit over the top but I agree with a good amount of things on here (and lol'd a couple times). The "customization" aspect of the game is pretty trash. Being just about exactly the same as it was before, on top of adding restrictions to niceties added to the previous game makes it a bit of a failure. In the end, I'll probably collect a heap of shaders, but the exceptions, like the ones you earn in the raid, which probably don't drop randomly in any faction or bright engrams is a serious disappointment. I feel that the addition of mods is a bit of an improvement overall, even if just barely. I like that that nifty armor I finally get doesn't have to be scrapped because of a roll that's of no interest to me (a shotgun ammo bonus is of no interest to me), since I can change the roll myself, sort of like I could with exotic armor in D1 when glass needles were added. The RNG can add frustration too, but you earn mods so often you're bound to get something you'll like. I agree that the final boss is too easy. I adore the feel of the entire endgame mission that has us going from the Almighty and the Last City all the way to the flagship, but Ghaul himself was a pushover. Having the power of the light and switching between the new subclasses was an opportunity they missed. He should have been harder to deal with. It should have been that one instance where our super attack finally meets its match. But he moves so slowly and has such a watered down version of what we can do that it takes the oomph out of the whole thing. Not getting a sparrow through the main campaign is a baffling choice. The sparrow should have been something we salvage from the EDZ or given to us by Devrim Kay, like the Wanderwing from Hawthorne. PvP seems better balanced overall than what I remember from the beta, but as a non-Trials player, needless to say I don't think I'm quite fit for that just yet (and I HATE that bomb timer nonsense). I prefer straight up elimination over that defuse BS. As for the raid, fuck that thing. I did some of it, but I actually detest these puzzle things. The Vault of Glass is easily the best because it was more about teamwork in dealing with enemies than running around coordinating these stupid map puzzles.
