Is anyone else having issues with the platforming in D2? Because during the quest Riptide, the platforming is god awful. I was having a good time with the game till then. What's bad about it is that you get one chance or it's a death and worse the respawning is completely random too. So, its not like you don't just respawn where you last were.

It took some getting used to, but I think it depends on the class too. I find Hunters have a steeper learning curve than the others because of the double/triple jumping, with Warlocks being the most forgiving with their floating. The fact that ledge grabbing is a thing now should’ve helped but it’s tricky. As for spawning, I find it depends on how long you’re standing in a certain area, and if you die too often you spawn further away.

So, is there a lore reason on why there are certain places on the map were respawning is restricted? Seems contradictory to what the "Light" is.

That's a really good question and something I'd not thought about as I haven't really read the grimoire and gotten into the lore in-depth. So i went to google and found these two links where the explanation seems plausible to me linklink 2

That's a really good question and something I'd not thought about as I haven't really read the grimoire and gotten into the lore in-depth. So i went to google and found these two links where the explanation seems plausible to me linklink 2I'd pretty much go by this, even the grimiore won't go into to much detail but much of it has to do with the darkness being so dark or "heavy" that the light just can't do anything around it. So if a guardian dies, that guardian is more or less gone. I have to also agree with on poster in one of the links. Why can our ghost resurrect us hundreds of years after our death, but we can't do the same for others? There's various instances where we've weakened the darkness that the light "should" be able to bring back those fallen guardians. its really a huge question, one that I doubt will be answered as Bungie has said they won't expand as to what the darkness actually is. So because of that, I don't think we'll ever have an accurate explanation on the matter and we'll be speculating till the end of time unless Bungie does end up expanding on this. It could even involve the traveler for all we know, maybe it simply chooses who needs brought back and who doesn't.

It plays very well with mouse and keyboard; I don't feel like I'm dragging the reticle through molasses. I'm not crazy about the movement. Jumping and strafing feel mildly odd and I don't quite know why. But it's not unpleasant and perfectly playable.
edit: And wow that character creator is... lacking I think would be the polite term.

Yet somehow worse because some (most) of the organic presets are basically unpleasant warped versions of D1's. They could at least have added a few more face models, a larger selection of color swatches for each category and more hair.

I always figure that the ghosts themselves get killed if the enemies are too dangerous and the guardian gets snuffed out. Even The Consul in Destiny 2 walks around with a necklace adorned with the cores of dead ghosts and an exotic hunter helmet.

Playing a bit more. I'm enjoying the gunplay; they feel different from each other. I love the use of color and light in the levels and the levels themselves seem varied. I hate the first person platformer and whomever designed titan needs a slap up-side the head. The main story is very generic (Mass Effect 3 did it much better). I also can't remember the lead good guys name; I keep thinking of him as Vesuvius.
So, all in all, I'm liking the game, laughing at the writing, and cursing those frickin' thralls.

If you're going to implement a gameplay mechanic be upfront with it. If you lie about something it just makes people think you have something to hide: Destiny 2’s progression system for players beyond level 20 will change, following player outcry over a system of diminishing experience-point returns that players suspected was steering them toward buying the game’s loot box item.
In a post yesterday evening, Bungie announced that it is deactivating a progression system that reduced XP gains for certain events “that can be quickly, repeatedly chained, like grinding Public Events.
The outcry began about three weeks ago, and has its strongest basis in this analysis in the Destiny subreddit. Written by Redditor EnergiserX, it spoke to many players’ individual observations of how their own progression was going since last weekend’s initial “Clarion Call” public event, which gave an XP bonus to those who played it with fellow clan members.
Over the course of three tests, EnergiserX determined “there is a hidden scaling factor that ramps up as you earn XP more quickly.” Moreover, Destiny 2’s public events were only delivering half of the XP they promised.
The rate of XP accrual is important because, after level 20, each time a player fills up their XP bar they’re entitled to a Bright Engram, which is Destiny 2’s loot box equivalent — as in, it can be bought for real money via in-game purchase. Like loot boxes in other games, a Bright Engram contains cosmetic items, typically emotes, ships or weapon skins.
“Over the 3 hours [of play time] I should have earned ~1.5 more Bright Engrams than I did,” EnergiserX concluded. That comports with other players’ complaints since the Clarion Call event was first offered a week ago, in which players noticed that successive completions of the 5,000 XP event actually filled their XP bar less and less each time.
Redditor IbeLIEvel reported the same experience in this thread, with screenshots, confirming that a Bright Engram runs about 80,000 XP. “On the first event completion, the amount needed for my next bright engram went down correctly according to DIM,” they wrote. “On the second public event completion, I again checked DIM and received barely any XP.”
In Bungie’s defense, placing a limitation on repeatedly grinding a public event to farm Bright Engrams is a reasonable intention, to keep farming behavior from warping the game’s virtual economy, depleting the game of items to award or debasing the value — or accomplishment of earning — a Bright Engram. Players acknowledge that’s a legitimate concern.
“If Bungie wants a cooldown on this to stop us from [spamming] public events to get XP, that's a different discussion,” notes IbeLIEvel, “but we should at least have this communicated to us appropriately in the UI. Don't show us +9k if we're not getting +9k.”
That kind of discrepancy, in light of the loot box controversy in Star Wars Battlefront 2, made players quick to suspect this system was meant to encourage buying Bright Engrams in Destiny 2’s Eververse store. That was apparently enough to get Bungie to pull the plug on this kind of XP cooldown scenario and think over what to do next.www.polygon.com/2017/11/25/16698890/destiny-2-xp-scaling-throttled-cooldown-limit-bungie

I quit playing like week 3 (I figured the game wouldn't hold my attention months down the road and I'm right, I've no desire to go back).
I figured they had caps or limits on some of these. Since I haven't stuck around with the game I don't even know if the issue where chests or material modes didn't drop anything was a big or an intended design. That said I wouldn't be surprised if it was intentional, it goes in hand with the XP limitations they're doing, slowly irritate the player and "maybe" they give in and just buy the engrams.
Also since I said I'd make an actual judgment on the game months down the road (as I don't believe in reviewing a mere few days post launch and this is a game I don't think you can due to its design to be a grinding game and built for long term).
1.it has no reason to keep me coming back 3(since we're nearly to 3 months old) months down the road. I've got 3 characters, 2 of them 290+. I've done the raid (disliked it so much I never tried a 2nd attempt, unfortunately I saw the raids progressively getting worse after each addition in D1 and I think it's still happening here), I've done the nightfalls, the weapon bounties (the rat king being the only semi-hard one), the story twice and a half (3rd character is like 140), and I've throughly explored every lost sector. It really isn't a lot of content as you can get through everything but the raid by 240, and the raid can be done around 250 if you've got a good group. While I get that your meant to grind and repeat, I don't think there was even a good amount of things to make me want to do it. I could farm nightfalls or public events all day.
2.pvp while an improvement to the first (as I like the longer ttk style and less focus on ohk capabilities that D1 have with shotguns and snipers lasting all game), it still has various issues. So my own biggest peeve with an long ttk game is team shooting. Team work is one thing, but when people are riding each other's asses it's an issue. Where is the spreading out and simply communicating? Trying to cover spawn points and force lockdowns on parts of a map? THAT is real team work, not riding in a 4 man group side by side. as said from the start the variety is also lacking when you get 2 playlists a (with IB and trials being 3+4 when they're available). You NEED to make sure the variety is there on launch as that's when you'll have the most players, not a year down the road when half your player pop is gone (and I've paid attention to it on Dtracker and it's 3/4 now, and it's not even a year 👌). Furthermore iron banner and trials don't act the same, what happened to level advantages? I can get not doing it the first week to let people get a little more time to get to a decent fighting level but far as I've heard nothing has used level advantages yet. Makes me actually think they won't use it, will implement it when the pop goes down even further to add "spice" to the game, or it'll be implemented with an entirely new game mode down the road to make said mode more different. If there would be anything to keep me playing it would've been a level advantage enabled trials mode.
You still can't pick strikes and they don't have a heroic mode yet, nightfall is the best you get for now and I'd imagine it's easy for most people at this point since they've leveled up and memorized their routines. I'd say the raid would be the only challenging thing "if" you've got a group that can't coordinate well. It's not the monsters or the bosses that are the hard part, it's making sure each player knows their role and can execute the puzzles and such. So In short I'd say the challenge isn't there as well.
So you're lacking in good content amount, an addicting pvp with options and a challenging game and I don't think you'll have most players wanting to come back. I imagine come the DLC you'll see a spike but what happens after the first two weeks? You go right back to a few months of waiting which was D1s issue, the content wasn't coming out fast enough since the current content wasn't good enough.
As someone who put 1,300 hours into the first, I can't even put in a hundred into this one. The interest just isn't there anymore so I'm looking to what new franchise will be the successor to destiny.
It's not a bad game though, but I wouldn't invest hundreds upon hundreds of hours into it as I don't think it is worth that time. Get one character near max level and you've done everything you can besides outright getting it maxed out.

Seems a bit like a necro, yet playing a bit of Destiny almost feels like a nice appetizer (or anesthetic depending on your point of view) for Anthem in the new year. I picked up the 'Destiny (1) Collection' last September during an Xbox free trial period and played for a while before hitting a wall. The wall consisted of reaching level 12 and finding that I would have to replay missions to beef up my Warlock in order to progress, what with most side quests not having any matchmaking facility I find I need to be a little over-leveled to play those solo. Coming back to it, I've re-run those missions and am progressing again. Quite enjoying it...

I’m looking forward to Forsaken, myself, but I do question Bungie’s decision to just drop that spoiler in its story trailer. I guess they’re just skipping all the surprise nonsense and getting old-time players more intrigued. But considering how little meaningful story content we got these past few years, I’m irked now that the one meaningful bit won’t be something I can walk into blind.

the Vanguard Legacy is rather handy for rolling from Strike to Strike. At level 31 I feel I'm making a bit of progress.

It’s a serious pain and it’s why I didn’t do any raids until year 3, when I was curious enough to finally bite the bullet and use third party websites to find people to do it with.

So, Bungie is getting ready to sell a printed version of the grimoire in 3 (I think?) volumes - yeah, THAT infinitely enigmatic and nebulous Grimoire whose entries USED to be free as ingame achievements as part of the game's external website, but that they yanked just before Destiny 2 was released.
