It’s an average to good game with lots of flaws, doesn’t know what it wants for its audience (at times this feels like Zelda etc, poor initial marketing (you get 1 shot as the rapper said) and you divided the fan base Now we are getting “ohh well it’s the usual simple opinions or I don’t care what they say That's fair. I'm liking the game just fine, but I'm having a tough time figuring out who exactly it was for. It's a direct hit for some of us here, a clean miss for a lot of others and it looks like good-but-not-great for most. Which isn't great performance for an audience of Bio fans. And the plot really doesn't strike me as something aimed at people who aren't already fans. From your description the Veilguard sounds like a very classic BioWare game

From your description the Veilguard sounds like a very classic BioWare game I’ve learned quickly that the fanbase will never be satisfied with each release. It’s either the best thing ever or more common: it’s the game that will end BioWare. Tha tjus tabou tsums it up these days yes.

Did Veilguard sell well or not? We don't know. We'd need to know what EA's expectations were, and they're not going to give us the number they were aiming at. We also have no reliable data for console sales, which is where DA games have historically sold best. My impression is that sales are solid but unspectacular, but I'm basing that entirely on vibes.

My impression is that sales are solid but unspectacular, but I'm basing that entirely on vibes. Honestly that's been my assumption too. If it had done crazy good numbers, we'd have heard about it, but if it had been a disaster, I doubt the devs would still be talking as enthusiastically as they are, especially while recovering from a hellish 10-year development cycle.
"Not as good as fans wanted, not as bad as haters wanted" seems to be the best tl;dr

Treat this "news" tidbit with a bag of salt: apparently there's a rumor on spaces hostile to Dragon Age that DAV has crossed 3 million sales... and the funny thing is that these folks think it's bad, when - if those numbers are true - would mean that DAV would probably be BioWare's best-selling game at launch  I don't think people get that RPGs are a niche titles. I saw estimates for uproariously successful BG3 and the number they gave was 15 million, which is a lot, but nothing compared to behemoths on the market from different genres. |

It's bad if the estimations are 10 million units. If you're gonna bring this highly questionable source, at least bring it in the context Inquisition sold 12 million after many, many years and was their best-selling title ever. Nobody in their right mind estimates 10 million units for what is ultimately a niche genre. As added above - BG3 sold "only" 15 million after 1,5 year and they are considered to be an uproarious success in RPG space. Also - I am bringing context. The context is that 3 million sales a month after release would be a really good number for the game - maybe even the best for BioWare as far as launch sales are concerned.

I saw this number in a video in which it was explained the estimates were 10 million.
I don't understand much in game sales, but it seems kinda senseless for EA to expect sells of anything less than what a game in the series sold 10 years ago.
Also I don't think they were going for niche

I think people are overestimating the impact of RPGs on the market. Yeah you’ll have games like BG3 or Cyberpunk but one: they’re exceptions and two: their sales are nothing compared to FPS like COD. RPGs are a niche genre so having DAV cross 3 million copies sold (though I’m taking that rumor with a massive grain of salt) is pretty impressive.
