Dwarf women definitely became a bit more "hobbit-like" in Inquisition. Their shoulders are narrower, their noses less likely to be large or "button-y"... see this image for how their bodies are different, less stocky than they were in DAO. Credit goes to Gilsa iirc - Currently the results are: M/M: human > qunari > elf > dwarf M/F: human > elf > dwarf = qunari F/F: elf > qunari > dwarf > human F/M: elf > human > qunari > dwarf

If I were a developer and I saw data like this, I would probably stick with human and elf LIs for straight male characters. And I would definitely include either a straight or bisexual elf guy as well. And I'd probably include another bisexual qunari guy at some point down the road. See, this is the reason I was concerned about using my actual gender to answer the question, because of incorrect inferences made from the data. I don't care about straight romance, since I'm playing male characters, yet my picking "I'm a lady and I'd romance a human guy" makes it seem like I do, as you just demonstrated. Despite whatever social or meta assumptions people might make, the raw data does not tell you what a player is in real life, or their reasons for making a choice. The data has no idea that I am a straight female player that romances Fenris and Dorian with a male character, it only knows that some player preferred those m/m romances in those games.

I thought about including options for what gender your PC is in addition to the player's gender, but then the poll would've been twice as long and even more complicated... 😓 I know I've played every gender/sexuality combo at some point or another.

We could have one poll for player gender and one for PC gender? It might be interesting to see if it changes much. It's not like there's a lot of DA4 info to talk about, so I don't think two threads is that excessive right now. lol

For me, as Kelly Chambers put it, “Character matters, not race or gender.” I generally agree. How I feel about a person definitely colors my perception of their appearance. I'm not too crazy about elves in general, but Fenris won me over with his voice, angst, and devotion. I initially thought Dorian's mustache was ridiculous, but now I can't imagine him without it. Sad to see that dwarves are still the least interesting to people. I don't think "interesting" is the correct word to use here. I think many people just don't find them attractive. The dwarven culture and mythos as developed in Dragon Age is highly "interesting" to me, but I just don't find them generally attractive as a people. If -- though highly unlikely -- I were going to romance a woman, it would be one that is a bit more masculine of center; I've determined that that is my thing, as far as women are concerned; dwarven women skew too "cute" for me. If I were going to romance a dwarf man, I'd like an acerbic curmudgeon, like Cabot . As I say above, character matters more, but if we're talking aesthetics, as the poll suggests, I like human men.

I think a new one would be distinct enough. I prefer (very) nonhuman LIs, but my canon Hawke went for Isabela and my possibly-canon Inquisitor went for Dorian, because their personalities meshed the best. Because humans are ridiculously overrepresented, there’s less of a chance that past PCs will have clicked with a nonhuman.

Very interesting data so far. So, I could not help doing some simple statistic and calculating the coefficient of variation(CV) based on race for each gender pair (PC and LI). In human words, the numbers below essentially show how much race matters for each m/m, m/f, and so (0 means race does not matter at all, 1 mean race absolutely matters). PC/LI pair | CV | m/m | 0.20 | m/f | 0.28 | f/f | 0.09 | f/m | 0.26 |
Please take these as a grain of salt since the sampling size is small. It looks like f/f does not have strong preference about races while m/f has the strongest preference. I'd have thought m/m would have the strongest preference since we did have some varied responses in the romance thread.

I might suggest you or someone else make it, though, only 'cause I fear I'm developing a reputation for posting romance polls and threads. Plus you can add those sexy, sexy sylvans! Nightscrawl sign me up for Cabot, he was hilarious. Well, I made this one a while back, though it refers to previous romance options rather than future ones. I'm sad Anders and Zev didn't do too well. My ranking of just m/m, since that's all I play, would be: Anders Zev Dorian Fenris Iron Bull I don't think they did too bad; if you look at my final summary you'll see that Anders at least is the third most popular m/m love interest, after Dorian and Fenris. I think it's funny that humans are leading the pack for men and elves are leading the pack for women, regardless of sexuality lol.

Dirk why are you so smart omg I'm fine with the poll since it's asking to the actual demographic or target audience of said sexual orientation, me as gay man I appreciate it. And seeing how different our opinions are between gay/bi comrades makes me happy since I like diversity, even though I DONT UNDERSTAND THE TASTE FOR ELVES . it's a joke at this point I want fair content and plot-relevance, if I have to be dicked by an elf so be it, Fenris was awesome lol

I really can't decide when it comes to polls like this, lol. I almost never romance who I think I'm going to romance until the game comes out...and then it depends on the plot and the type of PC I create, and then who the options are. There isn't any combination I would completely rule out if it was plot important or they fit my character best. My biggest thing is that it has to make narrative sense for my protagonist. A second or third choice might become first if it fits the character and overall plot.
When it comes go dwarves, it probably wouldn't be my first choice, but a strong character like Varric for example would definitely get my attention. In DA2, Varric was written to have a strong friendship and personal connection to Hawke, so you could easily imagine it happening (had he been an option).

And yet...

I voted all the options available for ladies. One of my only restrictions for romance is it's hard for me to create a character for a m/f romance for some reason. I can play m/m, f/m, and f/f just fine though regardless of race.

Is the “I’m a _____” referring to the PC’s gender or the player’s gender? I was going with player gender. Like I'm a woman, and I played a male character to romance Fenris, but I still said I'm a lady who'd romance a male elf. If that makes sense. How to vote if you're agender or enby? I don't want to misrepresent who I am, so not sure what to do.
