That said, you're totally right. I had no idea Templeman looked like such an ugly, dignified, badass cross between Woody Harrelson and Mick Jagger. Put him in plate armor and he'd be ready to go. Hah, so basically he looks like Willem Dafoe

Really highly esteemed producer of reconstructed medieval weaponry and movie props on some of the reasons why movies and tv shows always make so many compromises on historical realism. But he also touches(3:19) on copyrights and why different adaptions of one work or another are often forced by law to vary in how they interpret the work visually.
May or may not seem relevant to the Witcher, but it felt worth sharing in this context. Certainly made me stop and think about the things that I've complained about in that vein over the years.

This trailer looks fantastic, I'm surprised! Visually Netflix has succeeded. Looks gorgeous. Costumes are very nice. Music is also well picked. They've come a long way from those cheap ass first screenshots.
Cavill really nailed the voice! I'm impressed! His face is still jarring to me, however. He still looks like he walked onto the wrong set. He's just too smarmy for that role. Not his fault, of course. If his acting is good I'll hopefully get used to this British pretty boy version of Geralt. He seems to play Geralt a bit softer? Does he flinch away from the stone thrown at him in the novels too? I can't remember... There is a lot more emotion on his face. Then again a videogame has limitations... Yennefer looks promising! Ciri too! Can't really place all the other faces. Emhyr was not in the trailer, right? Would have liked to see him... I'm still VERY skeptical of the writing. I don't trust Netflix to tone down their annoying SJW pandering. And the showrunner's previous work I was told does NOT seem indicative of writing talent and a good grasp of characters. But let's see. I'll definitely have a look. And hey, can't really be worse than American Gods, ugh.

And the showrunner's previous work I was told does NOT seem indicative of writing talent and a good grasp of characters. Not every show a writer attempts can be a mega-hit, for sure. I've not heard of a couple of shows in her résumé, but; West Wing - not sure how many episodes she was involved with, but it was great Parenthood - didn't watch it, but heard good things Private Practice - yawn, but it was successful for a time Daredevil and the Defenders Umbrella Academy - contender for best "super hero" show of the past year. You don't have to like her politics - or her, I guess - but she's got some talent. Plus - the orgy behind Geralt at 0:29 would seem to indicate that if she is intent on 'bathing us in "SJWism', she's doing it with naked or partly naked women. Which is a weird way to go, in my opinion.

That looked more interesting, high value shit and all that. I'm more convinced about the actor playing Geralt now. Already presented my displeasure with the actresses picked to play certain characters, that still remains. But as trailers go, this one wasn't bad at all compared to the first one. Big complaint right now is that the trash bag / ball sack armor for Nilfgaard is still a thing. My sweet Jesus why

Much better than the last trailer. I liked the framing of shots and cinematography. Ball sack armor still sucks and not convinced that actress is right for Yen. She's trying really hard to be sultry whereas she just emanated it in the books and games. Cavill just might be good as Geralt. Overall though it still feels pretty familiar.

I'm still not feeling the actress for Yennefer, at 1:15 Cahir looks too old, and i agree that Cavill looks a little more convincing as Geralt. Needs to ease up on a few more grams of protein, and muscle supplements, but he's decent now. So far Cavill was the only good casting.
I have suspicion the Nilfgaardian scrotum armor was thought up by the very feminist lead writers because patriarchy = penis which makes the Nilfgaardians literal dickheads. Mind you these guys are supposed to have the most technologically advanced military in terms of tools, and gear but that shit looks like production had recycled some costumes from the sets of Xena and Hercules The Legendary Journeys.

I'm still irritated about the horrible trash bag armor design, it looks even worse now when compared to the beautiful choices they have for Geralt and the Northern Realms. I'll be forever salty with the look they chose for Nilfgaard and hopefully they decide to change it in the future (wtf were they thinking?!). As for the actors? None of them would've been my pick but I'll wait until I see them act to judge. I remember being skeptical of heath ledger playing the Joker until I saw him in action. Hopefully they all do well, especially Yen since she's my favorite.
The trailer itself looks pretty promising and much better then the last one imo. However I've seen some shitty trailers attached to great movies and some shitty movies attached to great trailers, so it doesn't mean much to me.
All in all I remain cautiously optimistic.

Not every show a writer attempts can be a mega-hit, for sure. I've not heard of a couple of shows in her résumé, but; All I can say about Hissrich is what a friend said about Daredevil and Defenders. I only watched a few episodes of Daredevil and none of Defenders because I'm not into superhero stuff. So take that with a grain of salt...
He LOVED Daredevil and after S1 he thought the Witcher series will be the greatest thing on TV. Because Daredevil was so gritty and devoid of SJW bullshit. But apparently Hissrich was only producer of S1. So then he kept watching and some crossover episodes with Defenders came up in S2, I believe. And Hissrich had a hand in writing these and he said those were BY FAR the worst episodes. They were awful with some jarring character stuff that did not fit the previous characterization. And she had to shove some feminist bullshit down people's throat where a petite nurse takes down 3 big men, lol?! Also, Defenders is apparently really bad. And Hissrich wrote episodes for it.
So make of that what you will. But my friend was utterly deflated. He went from extremely hyped to saying there is no hope for the Witcher series.
We'll see for ourselves soon enough. If we're lucky she hired good writers and didn't write any episodes herself. That is all I can say about Hissrich from hearsay.

Then again a videogame has limitations... In books, the first rock actually misses him. Then he's protected by Quen. Here, I think he actually got hit in that shot. Witchers aren't that much more resilient than average human (they can fight while being seriously injured because of potions and presumably high doses of adrenaline. At one point in books, Geralt would bleed out eventually, but he was high on potions, so he had to be convinced to accept help of medic), so it probably hurts him like anyone else.

It looks like something the orcs of mordor would hammer out in their hellforge. Even the orcs armor was functional, not pretty, but functional. This thing though, what's the point of the ball sack "texture" on it? what's it made of presumably? rubber? you wouldn't do that with steel/iron. Is it supposed to "cushion" blows or something? Absolutely ridiculous. Fine, they don't like the game, got it. Not gonna draw inspiration from there, alright. But they did a good job with the rest, what was the problem with this one? If I was feeling adventurous, I'd pick something like very late medieval steel plate, top to bottom fully covered soldiers (more like kings actually...). Very expensive they would look like robots almost, but realistic at least.

Plus their swords look like the costume department was ordered by the writers to make them look all jaggy like because the Nilfs are evil. It's amazing how the bestial Uruk-Hai's butcher knives from Jackson's adaption of LoTR appears to have superior craftsmanship, and utility when compared to Hissrich's Nilf swords.

I totally forgot how bad the Nilfgaard armor looked and didn't pay attention to it in the shot of Cahir. So it's still the same, wow... It stands out like a sore thumb among the otherwise much improved costume design. Odd. I like the feminist conspiracy theory. Keep going.

OMG that armour is just insanely bad, it looks too plastic like and I wouldn't buy it for my kids to dress up in it looks so unrealistic. If it had a leather texture too it or something maybe it'd work but just glad I missed the "sack" armour people keep referring too!!!!! I like the very modern clips they have on the side of the breastplate too???? Maybe its leather but it looks like a modern adjustable buckle (?) on a backpack.

The thing I didn't like in this trailer was Cavil's acting, it seemed to theatrical for some reason. They also didn't give him "cat eyes", but I guess it may have been to hard to do with their budget.

The thing I didn't like in this trailer was Cavil's acting, it seemed to theatrical for some reason. They also didn't give him "cat eyes", but I guess it may have been to hard to do with their budget. Wow. If a pair of contacts for Cavil would blow their budget then clearly Netflix isn't too excited about the franchise after all. And I resent the comparisons to orc craftsmanship. Orcs are terrific armorers and weapon makers, technically. They just have no aesthetic sense whatsoever. The Nilfguardian armor looks like it was made by someone who had no idea how metal worked, gave up and used plastic instead, realized how stupid and primitive it looked, and made it worse by trying to give it "character". It's the kind of thing I might have drawn at ten or eleven under the prompt "edgy dark evil armor looking thing" while knowing nothing about texture. Some seriously bad judgement went into that, as well as the decision not to change course when they first heard people's reactions to it. Geralt and Yennefer apparently meeting during an orgy is rather boring and disappointing too. I always thought their meeting in The Last Wish was perfect, with him barging in on her sleeping off a hangover and then impressing her with how gentlemanly and considerate he is even though he urgently needs her help for Dandelion. Also still not a fan of Cavil. A big beautiful baby-faced man with puppy-dog eyes and waggling eyebrows in place of a vocabulary was never my idea of Geralt. It all just looks uninspired and by-the-book to me. Like they collectively decided to make a "sexy gritty fantasy epic with diverse appeal" and then just started going through the motions.
