I though the CC for DAI as alright, minus the lighting & the 50 shades of shaved head, but BW only focuses on the head, one game I've played of late is Code Vein & the CC on that in phenomenal in my opinion. Just all I have to say.
Black Desert Online. Got a 7 day free trial for that and honestly, I never really left the character creator. You can adjust everything, basically, up to and including the length and thickness of toes and fingers. Adjustable haircuts (!) It's almost a bit too much I feel like 2 years of this games development was spent working on the CC for the game.

Looking around for any kind of "cinematics", it doesn't seem like there's anything that functions on the level of even a Destiny cutscene. It's all a very basic back and forth or first person view for things.

I had the trial and I can confirm the CC was obscenely detailed. It felt like every other game's character creation was only lvl 10 while this one was on lvl 100. I actually got a bit intimidated with just how much I could alter. There was even this one tab that I wasn't even sure what it did, but I'm pretty sure it was letting me alter my character's base idle position...? But yeah, I hope Bioware takes notes. If nothing else they should at least add more hair options and allow us to place tatoos where we want.

Most options that are given to you are like '' why would I ever want to make my character look like this '' and when you have an idea how you want something to look like, it takes ages to just find the right option and the right scaler and the right position to get it. And I remember trying to customize the eyes being a freaking chore.

Wow. Never thought I'd say this about a CC, but this might actually be... a bit too much. Maybe I am alone in my thinking, but all those complaints about bad lipsyncing or other issues around the protagonist could be tied to having too many character options. Its like the playable race thinking as well. Instead of designing one armor for a male character BioWare has to make two one for a male and one for a female character, but in Dragon Age: Inquisition they had to make eight, two for each race for the male and female models. Looking at the character generation options BioWare has (aside from hair, I think that is probably my bigger complaint about BioWare CC) what they allow you to change means it changes how the mouth moves and its location and side. It seems that again its the conflicts of trying to have two different ideals incorporated into one thing means that neither is very good.

Unless you cut a gender entirely out of the game.

Right, but I mean it gets exponentially larger in number and why in Inquisition there were so many armors that looked alike and just different patterns because every base look required eight models. A large part of that too was the limitations the older consoles put on the game. I remember an interview with one of the Devs who worked on armor, who said they wished they could have included more, but asset limitations prevented it.

Right, but I mean it gets exponentially larger in number and why in Inquisition there were so many armors that looked alike and just different patterns because every base look required eight models. Sure. You could make a fantasy setting with no elves, dwarves or any other race, to cut down on the amount of work required. You could also lock women out of the positions that would require a variety of armours be tailored to them. Or lock the men out, if that's your thing. Have the opposite sex, in any case, locked out of the fighting roles, to minimize development. Eventually, you are just going to come down to the realization that, perhaps, in order to have an easier time, you've cut so much out of your game that nobody wants to play it, because there are other studios that put more work and did a better job and people would rather play that. So yes, game development is hard. It doesn't mean you should do a poor job at it.

I never said anywhere in my posts they should cut something. Its just that the more options they put into a game the more work and time its going to go into that then other areas of the game. Its the same with the character creator if they allow the customization to equal the gun count in something like Borderlands then there are going to be trade-offs in other areas of the game. If it be the story, the non-player characters, banter, etc.

Mixed to be honest. As it stands w/ BW, more time does not always equal a better product. I'm looking at ME:A and (specifically) Anthem, so disappointed for this reason. Angered at EA for making BW start over for live service. Only slightly optimist in that more time couldn't hurt.

If I'm not wrong Black Desert was out before Andromeda and we all know how the CC in that game is sooooo wouldn't get my fingers crossed for something as complex as that.
Going back to development time - again, BW had a lot of time to develop a game before and it didn't matter much. It is important how will they spend that time to not crunch yet again.

Going back to development time - again, BW had a lot of time to develop a game before and it didn't matter much. It is important how will they spend that time to not crunch yet again. Yeah I really hope they're doing things right this time - and if something is not working out, are able to push the game back. I'd love to see DA4 ASAP in an ideal world but would rather they look after their creators. After the very public talk of their crunch time on Inquisition/Andromeda/Anthem, I hope they've been shown their errors and hope it's 2022/2023 to avoid that - if they were to crunch I have a feeling it'd be a lot sooner than then as the development - even with the restart - was a little while ago now, judging by the crunch reports of the time, the restart was before the Game Awards tease wasn't it? I may be remembering wrong. Basically I'm hoping my theorising is right and it's already in full development and they're taking their time - people were moved off Anthem so it seems to be the case that most of Edmonton is doing DA4. They've been writing the game for ages, I only hope the people actually building/coding/artists and QA have plenty of time. Because 'Bioware Magic' (as they said) definitely didn't work for Andromeda/Anthem. I love most Bioware games, I only hope they learn from their mistakes and set an example for the other crunchy studios (CDPR/Rockstar etc, whose also awesome games come with a bit of a human price) to make a change. TL;DR: I'm glad Dragon Age is a few years away as I'd rather it not be rushed and the devs aren't crunched.

The restart was back in October 2017 if I remember correctly, so over a year before the teaser. Granted they wouldn’t have been able to get a full development team on the project until after Anthem was out the door in early 2018. In any case, I would say they are probably in full development now.

Wow. Never thought I'd say this about a CC, but this might actually be... a bit too much. It actually is too much imo. Most options that are given to you are like '' why would I ever want to make my character look like this '' and when you have an idea how you want something to look like, it takes ages to just find the right option and the right scaler and the right position to get it. And I remember trying to customize the eyes being a freaking chore.
If the CC becomes a chore then it's way too much and if you have spend more time in the character creator than the actually game then you need to scale it way down.
