I mean we don’t even know what it entails but personally I’m optimistic since BioWare has a direction on where they want to go. Of course you’re optimistic, you’d probably spontaneously combust if you ever had a bad thought about BioWare. I just had a mental image of that and it make me chuckle. You get an extra like. 👍

It would take at least five hours of my time to list all the things wrong with me, neither of us want that so I’ll just sit here on BSN and enjoy the Anthem cynicism instead thank you very much 👍🏻

Well. One question that sprung to my mind just now involves the possibility Bioware adding in any sort of new content with the 2.0 version. My rational side steers towards them adding something in order to make the updated version more palatable. However, I am a bit of a skeptic by nature, so I have my doubts. FFXIV and NMS are listed as potentially similar examples of what EA & Bioware are doing now, but I haven't played these, and I never paid them much attention... so if anyone in the know regarding these two can fill me in, I'd be thankful for that. ...And on another note: What's wrong with you? I have my criticisms towards Bioware, I just tend to enjoy their games. It would take at least five hours of my time to list all the things wrong with me, neither of us want that so I’ll just sit here on BSN and enjoy the Anthem cynicism instead thank you very much 👍🏻 Ironic how all the cynics I know IRL (and most of the ones I talk with online) are perfectly capable of enjoying Anthem cynicism without shitting on the amped-up optimism of others. Would've cost you zero of anything to say nothing of ol' smiley boy's optimism... so considering this is BSN, makes sense you'd make the bad decision.

You mean EA sees monetization potential. That's fine. However, the sticky point is Bio's solution to appease two "masters"... EA and the consumer.

Anthem 2.0 will be the bestest possible game, just you wait and see! Sarcasm aside, I'm interested in what they can do with it. If EA is supporting with additional funding they've obviously seen the numbers and view it as a good risk otherwise they wouldn't even bother. Why would they?

More like the champion that became old and fat and forgot how to fight Underdog in the sense that what they seek to do is publicly thought to be not possible. Everybody loves the story of how FFXIV was resurrected despite Square Enix being one of the biggest companies in Japan.

Yea, the reason people loved it is because it is extremely rare and difficult to pull off. I wouldn't put my money on Anthem becoming FFXIV.

Would've cost you zero of anything to say nothing of ol' smiley boy's optimism... so considering this is BSN, makes sense you'd make the bad decision. That goes both ways, as has the stone-throwing for quite a while, so you can get off your high horse now. The person you’re defending doesn’t even own the game, iirc.

Everybody loves a good underdog story. Would be good to see them pull out an unexpected resurrection with 2.0 Man, wouldn't that be nice? But honestly, though: I'm not holding my breath, but I do hope they get it right this time. It's mostly a question of leadership that led to what we got last year, right? Assuming that's fixed (and I find it hard to get worse than what we got the first time around), it should at least get a healthy following. Yea, the reason people loved it is because it is extremely rare and difficult to pull off. I wouldn't put my money on Anthem becoming FFXIV. I wouldn't put my money on either option for now. And given concerns over Anthem's current predicament, I find it to be a good course of action. Ironic how all the cynics I know IRL (and most of the ones I talk with online) are perfectly capable of enjoying Anthem cynicism without shitting on the amped-up optimism of others. In this situation, I fail to see the relevance that ownership has. Most people talking about Anthem when the news hit have talked about it without having ever bought the game, and I don't see a good reason to lambast them for that either. Plus, I have also noticed (and voiced my disapproval of) some opinions held by our more optimistic members, so I think your criticism falls flat, such as it is.

Disappointing if sort of expected news that bioware is firmly invested in digging deeper rather than turning away from this abomination of a game.

Reminds me of certain bridge construction debacle that happened in my country some years ago... Kudos if they manage to pull it off (even if they sold a beta test in the first place and took them 1-2 years to make it worthwhile to play). Luckily, i don't like looter/shooters in the first place, so if something good/bad comes out of it, i wouldn't shed a tear... unless it proves to be a in/direct blow to DA4 development.

This last part is what I am worried about. I would like to hear that DA4 is finally in production. Bioware doesn't have a lot of dev teams, and those working on Anthem could instead be working on an rpg.

I don't think it would make a lot of sense to pull staff off a big upcoming title (DA); which I'm sure they're well aware needs to make a stellar impact, to work on re-working Anthem.
Yep not sure that sentence made a lot of sense but I think you can figure out what I'm trying to say.

I don't think it would make a lot of sense to pull staff off a big upcoming title (DA); which I'm sure they're well aware needs to make a stellar impact, to work on re-working Anthem. Because they totally didn't pull off staff from MEA to work on the Anthem flop... Just like they didn't pull off staff from SWTOR (at it's highest point in players and profits no less) to work on MEA... For anyone not getting the sarcasm - they did all that.
If Bioware truly wants to work on salvaging Anthem (doubtful, but whatever) you can bet they will pull people from the other projects. Which will mean you can kiss goodbye the 2022 release of DA4 and be content for the 2024 one.
But honestly, I think there is little reason to worry about that. Anthem is dead in the water as the blogpost pretty much confirms. The "current" version is on maintenance mode (like it has been since July) and the future Anthem 2.0 is more of a hopeful project that hasn't even started yet and maybe will be green-lit in the coming months. You should worry for DA4 only if that mythical Anthem 2.0 becomes something more than an average patch and really turns into a brand new game. But the odds of that happening in my books are about 10%.

Looking back, Bio was aware of the need to pull off a major win with ME:A, then with Anthem. Both failed spectacularly in the grand scheme of things.
This revamped, retooled, reworked game will take some time to complete. Let's hope the studio finds the right formula for LS games in spite of that prickly back-end monetization policy.
Casey's announcement does not suggest any haste in completing Anthem 2.0. By the time this game is ready for another crack at prime time, Bio will need another marketing budget in an attempt to convince the old player base to come back + new players.

Just a quick question, seeing as the title of the thread is "Incoming Soon"; how soon do you guys expect this to come? Which will mean you can kiss goodbye the 2022 release of DA4 and be content for the 2024 one. How long have I been saying this is the case?

As far as the Anthem update goes, my guess is it'll be out sometime before the Fall. Otherwise, it'd just get drowned out from all the new releases with the console launches. Though I'm not sure this will push back DA4 from the (likely Fall) 2022 launch. When we got that news from the Quarterly Report, they were already working on the Anthem revamp (we knew that from the Kotaku article). Not to say it couldn't be delayed anyway (because... video games ), but I'm fairly certain they've factored Anthem into the equation.
