First person open world (they do not use the term open world, so it might not be) RPG from Obsidian Entertainment set in Eora (Pillars of Eternity world). official websiteComing to: Xbox Series X - Xbox Game Pass - Windows 10 PCs Back when they were doing the Pillars of Eternity 1 kickstarter, Feargus was already talking about doing a first person open world RPG (a Skyrim-clone) in the setting. Looks like this is the game. They have shifted production to this earlier this year apparently. I wouldn't expect it to release before 2022. Some other stuff we can guess from the trailer: - Whomever is talking is very into Woedica based on all the talk about oaths and serving Kings/Queens. - The standards on the fort/castle wall shows a sword going through Woedica's broken crown. - Game looks to be set in Aedyr - The mountain statue is most probably of Galawain. - The sword rune spell Oathbinder in Aedyran script Edit: Removed the Xbox reference as it is now gone from the official website.

Really looking forward to this. Been wanting an Eora RPG!
I thought of Galawain too when seeing that statue

Despite not being a big fan of PoE, I'm intrigued. Gonna wait on proper gameplay though...

Given how Daedfire ended, I'm curious to see what this is about. It's probably set before the Pillars games. Going by the trailer, it sound post unification of the Aedyr Empire (when the Kingdom of Aedyr signed the treaty with Kulklin), so a few years after 2399 AI probably. That would be ~400 years before the first Pillar game and before they started colonizing other places too. It's also when they started exploring animancy...

Never played PoE. Trailer looks pretty meh to me...
Or rather, doesn't really tell me much about what the actual game will be like. Only Obsidian games I have played were NV and Outer Worlds, so I'm not familiar with their more serious storytelling.
Is this going to be AA or AAA? Get a AA vibe from it...

Could be interesting to see the Pillars universe done in this style of gameplay. The previous games didnt hook me as much as i hoped, felt they had way too much exposition dumps in dialogue that kept draining any momentum.

The previous games didnt hook me as much as i hoped, felt they had way too much exposition dumps in dialogue that kept draining any momentum. That could be simply a 'fact' of the style of game, though. Visual exposition is tough when your game consists of 2D sprites. All they had for exposition was dialogue or walls of text. For my own part, I liked PoE well enough to buy the White March (and finish it once), but I didn't love it the way I thought I would pre-release. I'm very glad games like PoE 1 & 2 exist, for the people that love them, though. But another FPP RPG...? Ugh - much more is needed before this becomes anything more than a "take a look when it's $20" proposition. One thing I will say, though - Eora is the most interesting fantasy setting I've played in a long time (and probably ever).

I might buy that argument if Shadowrun: Dragonfall, D:OS2, Sunless Sea, and Disco Elysium didn't exist All of those games have the same graphical limitations and yet manage to have more compact writing and be lighter on exposition. The writing was precisely what turned me off PoE and Tyranny and made me pass on Deadfire despite really wanting to like them. The impression I've gotten from reviewers is that The Outer Worlds is also pretty meh in that regard. More RPGs is always better, but whether I will bother with this one depends on how much the storytelling improves.

Only Obsidian games I have played were NV and Outer Worlds, so I'm not familiar with their more serious storytelling. Is this going to be AA or AAA? Get a AA vibe from it... All we know is that Obsidian higher ups have mentioned over the last few years that they wanted to make a first person Skyrim-like RPG in the Pillars of Eternity setting. PC Gamer has this quote: "Avowed is an expand first-person RPG set in the fantasy world of Eora," head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty said. "When Obsidian Entertainment joined Xbox Game Studios, they told us that this epic game is the one they want to make."Whatever it is AA or AAA is probably too early to tell as Obsidian doesn't have the manpower for what is considered AAA these days. On top of that, they are currently split over at least 4 projects: - Avowed (most of the devs are on this since earlier this year apparently) - Grounded (the Honey I Shrunk the Kid game, ~15 devs) - The Outer Worlds DLCs (should be more devs than Grounded) - Sawyer's none-violent isometric game (~5 devs on this) So it depends if they can hire more people or if the game is only releasing in 5+ years from now...

It also wasn't so much an argument, as a suggestion, but your point is taken. With regards to the quality of the storytelling - I really liked PoE - it was the gameplay that left me at a 6-7/10, rather than an 8 or 9.

I enjoyed PoE for a while but lost interest about thirty hours in. If this is just first person, I probably won't bother (what's with that trend lately anyway?).

The writing on the sword at the end of the teaser spell Oathbinder. A Woedica related title. It's written in Aedyran script too. /translated by a dude on Obsidian discord, the guy is basically fluent in Aedyran, lol. Oathbinder's Sanctum is a dungeon in Deadfire. It's a derelict temple dedicate to Woedica. I'm starting to think that we play a Leaden Key acolyte or Woedica Church Inquisitor charged to destroy the animancy researches in Aedyr a few centuries after the Empire was formed and things went wrong. And in line with those organisations, probably manipulated with lies a little bit (a lot!). If they go full with the Skyrim-like idea, the game is probably classless and might be based on the pnp version of PoE ruleset Sawyer was working on ( there is an alpha document).

Going by the teaser, whomever is speaking is disillusioned so...probably another kick Woedica story. Technically you can support her in both POE1 & 2 endings, despite her trying to murder you, but why would you...
I kinda like hating her.

I love Pillars of Eternity and Deadfire and would love to play another game set in Eora, but I'm one of those people who gets first-person motion sick so I'm going to have to pass on this one. Especially sad since it seems so unlikely that Pillars 3 will ever happen.

Last couple of decades first person games with companions (optional or not): - Fallout 3 - Fallout New Vegas - Skyrim - Fallout 4 - The Outer Worlds Technically the first 4 games also support 3rd person view, but it's crap and they are clearly meant to be played in 1st. I think the chance of Avowed having companions is pretty high. Edit: Nothing was confirmed about that. Just to be clear.
