It’s been a bad year for games like Dragon Age. Amidst all the pandering, for good or ill, they forgot to write a compelling story. They might want to ask Larian about that. It seems these companies are tired of losing money and now they want us to “trust” games journalism after a decade of gaslighting and finger pointing. I’d wish them luck, but I wouldn’t mean it.

I dunno but I was diagnosed with it as a six year old little girl so My late mom used to tell me that I was diagnosed at age five, "then we taught you to read, you started spending literally hours sitting in one place with books, and the doctors somehow retracted the diagnosis next year." Isn't that normal introvert nerd stuff? My single mom would leave me alone for like 3h for work a lot as early as six or something and I'd still be playing or drawing in the same position on the floor she left me. Time just flew by for me.

I don't remember either of my doctor visits (where I was diagnosed and "undiagnosed"), everyone who could remember them (my mom, dad and gran) are already dead, and I don't know if it's still possible to accept my records of 35 or so years ago, so I only have my mom's words to go by.

Not getting any important nomination is really pathetic for Bioware after all the paid off reviews (now its even more obvious that gaming journalists were lying).
And we still never got any sales report, meanwhile if the game was actually successful like something like Space Marine 2 Bioware/EA would have been posting about it all day. What a disaster!

It only got one nomination: Innovation in Accessibility.
Even Dragon Age 2 got more nominations at the 2011 Game Awards (Best Song in a Game and Best RPG). 😅

Genuinely thought EA might have shelled out to get it nominated for GOTY or at least RPG. Infinite Wealth got more nominations which shocks me cause I love that game but TGAs don't necessarily hold a lot of love for JRPGs. Still, Veilguard is certainly not my GOTY but I am actually surprised given that there does appear to be a fair bit of love for it.
It'll be the Elden Ring DLC that wins and nobody will be happy.

Only nominated for accessibility.
After all those suspicious 10/10 reviews, after all the payed off influencers, they got a consolation nomination from one of the biggest shilled industry events ever.
I hope BioWare wins so they can proudly display that trophy while EA goes through them like an industrial laser.

It's a overall polished game, gameplay wise. Writing wise it's in dire need of editing. But there's nothing new at all. It's an action game with vague bland rpg and YA cheap novel writing level. It's like nominating Mc Donald in a culinary contest. No one is doing that.

So I finally started the act 2, and while I kept hearing it would get better, it's actually getting worse for me. I enjoyed the very small sample of Weishaupt, that's it, but all the rest I felt apathetic. All these people who gave the Veilguard 5/5, and who claim to be long-time Dragon Age fans, I can't understand them. How did they manage to appreciate the coherence of the story within the universe and the quality of writing ? How could they feel it was dragon age ? Have they decided to put their brain on the table while playing to be able to enjoy the thing ? Or did they just consume a product without having any questions ? Nobody had the feeling of a lunar and bad dragon age fanfiction, ridiculous and atrocious when the inquisitor presented the grotesque situation of the South of Thedas ? No desire to laugh ? POOF, just like that, (the plan didn't make any sense anyway) First of all I have difficulties to understand the concept of time in this game, it's very videogamey to be honest. Varric for example, will he continue to sleep throughout the game ? What the hell, seriously. Southern Thedas has had time to be invaded, and the armies of the south have had time to react, to be be raised and move, but Varric, still yawning, lying on the bed, totally useless. It must have been months since then. He is so miserable. I was already offended seeing him so much sidelined during act 1 but wow, it's still the case during act 2. How come even in act 2 he's still not up, and above all worried about what's happening in the south at the very least ? The terrible thing that's happening in Kirkwall; the former viscount is totally okay apparently, he doesn't fucking care. No comments, nothing, niet, nada. He continues to play the nice old uncle to Rook while maintaining a cheerful mood. Did anyone at Bioware wonder if putting him aside so much wouldn't put hiim in conflict with the ongoing story ? And WTF seriously. Harding and Emmerich, submitted to the power of friendship, go camping in Ferelden, happily arguing about whether to bring back books or not during their trip if they should take a bath, like merry lovers, while there is the blight over there again, that Denerim has been lost and the horde of darkspawn is attacking all over the country. There are deaths by thousands, poor fereldans. And yet they are going to go camping over there, not giving a fuck, to smell and enjoy the country, Harding gigling and planning to show things around to Emmerich looking forward to such marvelous experience. Unbelievable. This level of cringe is surreal. No one uses the Eluvians to I don't know gather valuable information on the situation in the South or somewhere else ? To connect with the inquisition ? No, instead it's beach party, walking and camping. At least they enjoy themself. The tone of this game is completely crazy. We also have a severe identity disorder. On one hand this game wants us to believe that it is the apocalypse, that what is happening in the Veilguard is worse than the fifth blight of Ferelden, than the war of the Inquisition against Corypheus, it keeps trying hard, but on the other hand there are constantly lunar events and lunar behaviors from everyone which constantly demonstrate us the opposite. The storyline is so bizarre and focused that it goes so far as to ignore everything that isn't part of the factions or Rook's team, that it goes so far as to forget all the content of the universe of dragon age, people, societies, goverments and Nations of Thedas. The structure of the story is messy. You go from quests for walking, dinning with Taash's mother, walks to do the ritual of the dead, to very serious things. It's so weird. The context which is supposed to be very threatening is so not taken into account that you feel like you are in a dysney atmosphere sometimes, with the music that goes with it.

Did anyone at Bioware wonder if putting him aside so much wouldn't put hiim in conflict with the ongoing story ? Yes and no. The game will explain it. Whether you will like that explanation is up to your taste in fiction.

I'm just amused that with how black and white a majority of the game is and how simplistic it can be, there's a bit of "um actually Rook is a horrific villain and Solas was right and completing his ritual would have been better".
Do I give the writers credit...? (No, it is the delusions).

while there is the blight over there again, that Denerim has been lost and the horde of darkspawn is attacking all over the country. Harding forgets this again with Neve at one point. I am firmly of the opinion that everything to do with the Inquisitor was tacked on in the last year of development, if not shorter, because it just clearly is. If you removed every inqusitor scene, the game would be unchanged. that it goes so far as to forget all the content of the universe of dragon age, people, societies, goverments and Nations of Thedas. Yes.
