Factions and Backgrounds, What’ll you be?

Lord of Fortune for me. I like the idea of some random treasure hunter/explorer just being swept up into all this madness and helping to save the world.

I don't quite know for sure yet, which is problematic...but given what I want to do with my character and his background and set up and what will give him the most proper character focussed passives and set ups. So that being said right now think I have it down to three...

Antivan Crows- Wanted to be one, for some reason, since before Inquisition and wanted to give Kara that as a backstory. Didn't though. But being an assassin with bow skills and stuff is way up my ally and well the Crows sound like they could be really cool this game...mind you wonder how much the backgrounds will matter since no Origin stories.

Shadow Dragons- Have definitley become a strong number 2 as they are a Tevinter faction (and my guy I am figuring will be born Tevinter) and given their underground, anti Venatori connotations I figure they would be good for a running hither and tither vigilante type with a mandate for impossible causes. Just would be weird to be in the same faction as one of my main perspective girlfriends at this point...

LoF: Think they could fit the mercenary nature but he's not Rivani and might be too mercenary...

Just gotta start thinking about a potential fan fic I write that will serve as his Origin story like I did for Inquisition. 

Most likely Veil Jumpers, out of morbid curiosity on how they can have such a concept be convincing (in tone and substance). Will it be a cringefest? Will it break the lore for me? Will it trivialize the Fade? Lets see!

The other two are Grey Wardens and Shadow Dragons. All good.

I've never felt affinity for the Antivan Crows.

I'm usually averse to anything Necromantic, other than being happy if its in any RPG I'm playing. I'll let it exist, for enemies or allies, but I never play it. In MMOs, RPGs, or just picking out games with themes. So no Mourn Watch.


I hope a large part of the intro of the game actually varies depending on faction (so not just Minrathous-Shadow Dragon, but something different for each of the 6 - bonus points if I'm already Fade roaming in the Veil Jumping opening), and the choice affects things in other minor to major ways... just not as impactful as the whole opening level having a difference.

Its obviously going to be shorter and narrower than the Origin levels, but it'd be nice if the first hour was very different.


Looking to be one of my top three, probably human unless Qunari really click with me, mage, not sure about specialization except I won't be a necromancer nor blood mage so if that's it for 2/3 of the choices then it's gotta be whatever is the third. And romancing the mage killer. That'll be a weird pairing.

Playing this game six times will be a real trip.

I'm so glad, there are other options than Grey Wardens or inquisition. GW are pretty done for me by now and inquisition always had a bad taste in my mouth, given how evil the real world inquisition was.

Since I love adventurous stuff my favourite would be veil jumper. I hope to be some kind of Indiana Jones or Randolph Carter (just as female)
Lord of Fortune would fit too, especially with the Rivaini background I would love to have.

Honestly I’m not sure. I don’t want to be ‘boring’ and pick Grey Wardens, especially since we already did that in DAO. However, I do not feel like I know enough of the other factions to feel comfortable siding with them. Maybe with the exception of the Crows, but I’m not sure I want to be an assassin. Then again, I did LOVE duelist in DA2 and it would fit better with a quick assassin.

Grey Wardens or Shadow Dragons for my first PT as Paragade Rook.

I've initially gone for Shadow Dragons because I've always wanted to be a freedom fighter working on behalf of the underdogs. However, I await further information before being absolutely certain. At least I know roughly what the Mourn Watch entails and it would be easy enough to envisage, say, my mage being part of their organisation. It is all about role playing my character for me. I'm not really into being a treasure hunter, don't want to condemn my PC to the slow death of being a Warden and do not approve of the Crows after everything Zevran told me about them. As for the Veil Jumpers they are a complete mystery having sprung out of nowhere in the Missing, although they were probably around as far back as Tevinter Nights (Strife's "Dalish" clan). If we could find out a bit more about them before making a choice of faction later in the game, I might choose them, but at present, if we have to choose them at the outset, I want more information.

EDIT: I've swapped to Mourn Watch for the present as I think I'm going to start with a mage  and that seems more appropriate.

Currently favouring Shadow Dragons but I want to know more about what your background is based on your faction choice and if it changes based on which race and class you combine it with.

I also want to know what the specialisations of mage and warrior are, and what exactly a Veil Ranger is, as my favoured spec might feel better with one over another.

I am going to miss my assassin spec I feel.
