Six hours in is obviously way too early to rate it, but you know what, fuck it. Five out of five! I only got four hours sleep last night (because that's how long it took to download) and sincerely attempted to take a nap today but it did not happen because I want to play MOAR DAV.

Based on the 3 hours I played last night Its a solid 4/5. The Introduction missions and zones were pretty solid. Also I like the unknown of what Is let loose.

From what i played and what i have seen. 3/5 Could go up higher if i see the big impacked choices have (some people said they are in the game). Not so sure if i like the main story that much. I will wait and see. I don't like the german voice acting, maybe change to engl would help.

It's not a bad game. But I don't know if I like it, although it's too early to say. My general thoughts, already posted:
Okay, I’m concerned after playing longer. The pacing is erratic, both fast and slow. Things just happen, and worst of all, I’m not clicking with any of the companions so far. Not even Harding. She barely feels like the character I knew in Inquisition. I was excited to be back in cities, but so far have been disappointed by what I’ve seen. It’s better than Val Royeaux but not by much. I just want to talk to people.
I still don’t know what the game is trying to say about rebellion, other than tyranny bad, slavery bad. I knew what Inquisition was trying to say, hell I even knew what Andromeda was trying to say, even if it was poorly executed.
Solas and everything about him is the best part of the game so far, easily. I heard 'sera never was' song playing while in Minrathous and it’s probably another favorite, because it reminds me of Inquisition. It's concerning that most of the parts I like come from past games, and even that has caveats. That said, I actually quite like Rook, although that seems debatable for people. But I knew going in it was more defined protagonist, so I set expectations accordingly.
The combat is fun but I’ve never played these games for combat. I’m a little discouraged right now.

I don't do ratings as I personally think they're silly.
I'm only up to recently recruiting Bellara, a couple hours in.
The combat is a pleasant surprise as I'm enjoying it a lot. My biggest concern is once I have everything figured out with my build set, will I still be entertained with the gameplay loops after doing them over and over for hours on end. I only see the companions as glorified abilities. Especially when I force them to use an ability, they sometimes teleport to get in range to use the ability which breaks my immersion. Although, since this is an action game now, I need to get used to it.
I'm not enjoying the dialogue at all, except the interaction between Solas and Rook. That was brilliant. With Rook I would say you are forced to be good, but not forced to be nice. At least not yet. Harding and Neve are really flat to me, especially Neve. Her introduction being so ridiculously casual and striking a pose with a building on fire behind her just feels odd. Granted, it also felt very weird seeing demons snatch up people right in front of Rook and Varric without any reaction at all. So I wouldn't call it a voice actor problem, but a writing and direction problem.
The game moves at an action movie's pace where things just jump so quickly that the characters don't even have enough time appreciate the events or the severity of it.
The environments are very nice - its just they feel a bit too designed around the mechanics/puzzles they wanted to implement. Maybe it's a leftover from the multiplayer.
There are so many quality of life menu options and User Experience that feels so good. Like when you find a new item, you can press one button and it brings up a comparison between your current option, then choose to equip it. I really appreciate how much effort they put in to it and I wonder who was responsible for it.
So far, I wouldn't call this an Action RPG, but an Action game with RPG elements.

Still no score, but things;
I don't like - the art style with regards to characters. It's not 'bad', but I'm just not feeling it. The environments are gorgeous, though. I posted a screen shot of Arlathan in another thread. It is now my desktop background and my wife passed by and asked "where was that photo taken?"
- the transitions to and from cutscenes. It is a long term Bioware problem, but given how insanely polished everything else is, I thought they'd have worked on eliminating the fade to and from black for cutscenes.
I do like - the combat. Weird, because I do lament DA going full action. There are hundreds of Action RPGs. There are few tactical, RTwP RPGs. It is what it is. But having made the decision to go all action, they've done a good job. It's fun and challenging, but not too punishing (at least, not yet).
- scenes with the egg
- exploring the Lighthouse
I neither like nor dislike, but want to comment on - the lip syncing is an odd mixed bag. Some of it is really good. Some of it is...not. And I'm not sure whether or not I'm imagining that there are differences between scenes I think are good or not.
- the opening of chests and collecting of potions...leftover visual cues from the multiplayer version of the game?

There are some odd audio thingies maybe not so clear to other people, but I hear some kind of doubling / phasing sometimes when someone is speaking and the camera moves - maybe a positional audio thing or maybe two overlapping slightly different in time speeches. Felt like the position was not resolved fast enough. Not sure, 3D game audio is not my expertise in audio department... but is my friends. Have to ask him if he plays the game and notices. This is on PS5. It kinda feels like they mumble for a while to my ears. I have selected Headphones and use Sony XM3's with the PS5 controller wired to it, and XM3's noise canceling is on. Anyway, this is just an observation, it does not affect so much but I noticed it. Another one is that.. uhm I'm gonna get whacked because of revealing this: there is hiss in some speeches in the background which extends before and after the spoken words SORRY! I have too sensitive ears for these and now you know it if you opened this and cannot unhear it (if you have good enough ears/equipment)

I will say, just going off of what I've watched from people streaming it: the scene in Arlathan early on where we're introduced to the mutated NuDarkspawn, in the establishing shot we see one chowing down on a Halla corpse. Nice little bit of symbolism there. What Ghily really is vs what the Dalish believed her to be.

So far a 2 or a 3. While it plays alright and could be a decent action game, it is not feeling like a Dragon Age or really much of a Bioware game at all. The inability to talk to companions outside of scripted Moments so far is beyond baffling and there is far too much auto dialogue for a Bioware game. Even ME3 seemed to have less. And the writing has been… not great. There is no nuance or subtext. It’s written so a 7 year old could understand.
I also hate how this feels like a game from 2005 in its lineae design. Massive, massive step backwards from Andromeda, Inquisition, and even DA2. And the forced world state makes this world feel like it isn’t my Thedas. Reading a codex about the red lyrium idol from DA2 and it making a canon really pissed me the fuck off. Automatic point off the scale for that shit alone.
The combat itself us fine. But it won’t buoy the experience if the rest of the above remains as is. I really hope it improves, but I have not been impressed.

Here some preliminary comments based on character creation, the prologue and the first mission. Some spoilers, nothing major though IMO: Character creation: ++ I could make a reasonably good-looking male human Rook with very little effort - Glute size is a joke. Not that it matters to me, but it really is very noticeable - So many hairstyles, and I really dislike almost all of them. Where are the classics?
Prologue and the Lighthouse: ++ The environment looks really good -- No quicksave. Really, Bioware? - Environment interaction is very sensitive to character placement. -- The combat encounter design reminds me of DA2, including teleporting enemy waves and all - The portrayal of Minrathous as a place with ubiquitous magical surveillance is unconvincing and presentist. ++ The prologue is quite good overall ++ I like the music so far - How I suddenly know the names of the escaped Evanuris? Nobody ever told me - (PC) The tutorial popups give me the wrong keys for opening most screens ++ I like my first three companions so far - There is little tension in the character writing ++ I feel that I am in Thedas
Mission: In Entropy's Grasp ++ The environment looks really good - Some framerate issues on the map. Not critical though. - I was prepared to like Bellara, but her voice is grating and her way of talking is immature for a scholar. -- The elves look unauthentically varied. This is Thedas, not present-day North America. ++ I was told the companions don't pull their weight, but that does not appear to be the case. I play on a low difficulty though, maybe that's it. + The map is linear but provides a little space for exploration. Not sure how I feel about the balance yet. o Exploding containers. Original. -- Horde defense. I HATE it. The darkspawn design doesn't help. -- [Mage] It is extremely annoying that Rook always draws all the aggro + I like that the puzzles are simple. That way they don't detract from the flow of the mission. Would want *some* less easy ones in critical locations though. ++ The fight against the area boss was good.

Series lack of money in addition to my big reservations led to not buying the game but I did watch several hours of a playthrough and so far it's interesting enough for me to want to keep going, so that's a positive right there.
So far it seems like a solid game, not bad at all, the biggest problem I have with it is that it feels like the "Dragon Age" title feels like an unwanted burden on it. If it was a new fantasy game with its own world and a similar plot but without Thedas terminology I think I would have been much more forgiving.
Maybe my impression is heavily influenced by my extremely low expectations, but so far it's not bad.
Since I didn't actually play, I don't want to comment on combat and how it runs technically.

I have only finished the prologue. Here are my early impressions:
+ I picked the first female voice for Rook and am happy with the voice acting
+ I enjoyed the story of the prologue
+ I like the 2d art of the start and murals of Solas
+ It took a little time, but I could create a character whose looks I like
- The mage combat is unbelievably boring. I am playing on the default Adventurer. I have so little mana I am lucky if I can cast the one ability I have once per an encounter. I feel like all I am doing is autoattacking. I haven’t died yet because it is the prologue, but I am trying to decide if I should switch to Story to get through the combat as quickly as possible. If I do, it will be the first game I have ever played on Story mode. Will give it a little time first to see if it gets any better.
- Art style for the characters doesn’t look good.

Wow, a lot of perfect scores...I guess that makes it superior to TW3 or TLOU. Through 3 hours the visuals are decent despite the pixar like style. The game is not nearly as optimized as they claim...stuttering issues. Combat progression looks cool but the enemies are rinse and repeat...not terribly difficult on the second highest difficulty. The mains story is fairly decent thus far but the companion writing and dialogue delivery is atrocious, facial animations wooden...I wish there was an renegade interrupt to stuff a sock in Bellara's mouth. I dare say she's even more annoying than PeeBee. 3 of 5 and that's generous.

Btw I like Neve but I don't like her voice acting at all. Something about her delivery is extremely immersion breaking.
Bellara is bad both when it comes to writing and and delivery, which is a shame because I really liked her design

Wow, a lot of perfect scores...I guess that makes it superior to TW3 or TLOU. Not particularly, it's balanced out by the 1's. Average score on BSN is 3.3 from 29 votes which is a little on the low side. General impressions of the game seem to be a bit higher, at least in the 7.5 territory I think

Made the decision to play on 'Underdog' difficulty so I can learn deeper tactics rather than just button mashing (which is perfectly possible at low difficulty). The reviews tell me that the game rewards higher difficulty and more thorough side questing, so that's what I'm doing. 2 deaths so far.

Looking at /r/DragonAge and even they are expressing doubts and criticisms regarding the writing. Not surprised there. The gameplay seems to be where most people meet in agreement. It seems to be an enjoyable experience for at least the first 10 hours. Some reviewers have stated that it becomes a tiresome slog after that period. Your mileage may vary. The top posts at the moment of this writing is "This game treats you like an idiot", "The Ogre in this game just looks stupid", "I'm disappointed", and "It's not just the dialogue that's getting me" over on Reddit. From the playthroughs that I've watched, the game's greatest sin is that it's boring. Opinions on companion writing vary but nothing really stands out as noteworthy. And interestingly, the main story appears to be average or slightly better. Putting all of this together it seems like Andromeda all over again minus the technical aspects. If I do buy this game, it'll be on a special.

Writing is terrible, game is beautiful. Character models and art style wouldn't have been such a big problem if they actually committed to the Dragon Age aesthetic.
