They didn't really explained much, and I think they'll probably leave it vague. Maybe the books will focus on that though. I hope not. Any information the books have the game should also have. You shouldn't be forced to use side material for answers. I agree. That's just what I think they'll do. |

Makes sense being when Shepard died and was magically brought back to life... ...everything that followed was a nonsensical dream anyway.  Because bringing someone back to life is somehow more fit than heading off to Andromeda. By this point, I thought people knew what they were getting themselves into. lmao. |

Investigation of the attacked colony of Freedom's Progress reveals the enigmatic Collectors from beyond the Omega 4 Relay to be responsible for the disappearances. After assembling a capable team, Commander Shepard uses a captured Reaper IFF to safely traverse the relay and infiltrate the Collector base. Shepard succeeds in eliminating the Collector threat, saving humanity throughout the galaxy from certain destruction.
- Liara T'Soni locates the Shadow Broker's concealed base on the planet Hagalaz. The Shadow Broker, exposed as a yahg, is killed. Liara takes control of the Broker's organization, intending to use the Broker's vast information network to aid Shepard's fight against the Reapers.
- The Andromeda Initiative launches with the departure of the Ark Ships and the Nexus towards the Andromeda Galaxy on their 600-year voyage.
In short, it happens at a time when Shepard is otherwise occupied somewhere else (unsurprising). |

These naysayers are silly af. Do you really think that in a recruitment video/briefing they'll give out the true reasoning of the ark's construction? Ofcourse not, we'll probably learn the hidden secrets behind it in the game itself. in 2185, FTL engines CAN NOT run long enough to get to Andromeda without destroying the ship and killing the crew. That would happen in a matter of DAYS when the ships will have to travel for CENTURIES just to get to Andromeda (let alone a world suitable for colonizing). So yeah, I'm pretty sure a new recruit's first question will be "How do we not die getting there"? Trainer: A Wizard did it. |

The premise makes sense to me. A combination of private industry and government programs working together on deep space exploration? It's not much different than what we're seeing today. Throw in the support of several other species governments and you get an explanation of why it can move forward so quickly.
As for the timing, I don't think you could base the timeline anywhere else in the ME universe.
